every spring i see that they have a bike polo tournament in toronto, but in canada it seems to be played on a dry hockey rink with fixies, looks like fun
Come on now GCN, why didn't we cover hardcourt bike polo? Much more worthy of a video than this arcane version. Enjoyed watching as usual, but please do a hardcourt version sometime x
Thanks for showcasing Bike Polo, but don’t forget about Hardcourt Bike Polo, usually found in cities, played on tennis courts, 5-a-side football pitches or similar; 3 a side, smaller ball, 10 minute games, lighter mallets. In UK clubs in Bristol, Birmingham, London, Glasgow etc
I want to congratulate the cameraman/woman who stood in the middle of the field during this game! That is some risky taking, especially with the possibility that Connor might fall over you at any moment!
gcn's content has changed so much. And I really like the recumbent bikes, penny farthing and, now, bike polo stuff. There is so much more to cycling than just racing. Some more track wouldn't hurt though... I thought you guys were going to try a new record or something in two people bikes, wonder what happened to that
Hardcourt Bike Polo !!! Is the current Polo. Hopefully GCN take the time to look at it. You would be welcome in any club or Competition. But anyways any bikepolo is better the non Bikepolo.
@gcn would be good to see a comparison video on hardcourt bike polo. A rather different game and skillset. It is growing rapidly world wide with quite a few clubs throughout England.
The pro teams round here (Surrey/West Sussex) are mostly exploited South American teenagers living in caravans. About as far from millionaires as you could imagine. The owners on the other hand...
How about a bit of friendly internal competition at GCN. Next year enter the National Hill Climb Championships. Do a series of videos showing the presenter training for the championships. Plus all the races.
@@gcn Well, if you offer beer at the top you will have Dan in it. maybe not in a fair game, but that iss a different story. Just find something everyone likes
Awesome! Next check out this sport’s first cousin- Hardcourt Bike Polo! Hardcourt is at least 100x more popular and 2.5x more fun. Go check out the London Bike Polo scene- they’ve got a club of world renown. Maybe in 2021 you can attend and cover the European championship!
The fact that it is played with steel, fixie mountain bikes which makes it a readily affordable sport really puts it in contrast to traditional polo. Pretty cool game!
My impression of bike polo before this video - gritty and urban, played under flyovers by gnarled bike couriers. After the video - what Prince Harry does when his polo horse is injured
It would be great for them to go over to Bristol and play some hard court. Show the commoner end of the sport where it isn't an alternative to riding your horse!
Hank a cultural genius, keep sharing your experiences with others...Not many have experienced this level of fun. That is a great game EVERYONE should try at least once if you enjoy MAXIMUM EFFORT on a bicycle...chukka and a golden goal...well done for sure mate.
I was expecting a video about Hardcourt Bike Polo, and was quite surprised you found someone still playing the original grass bike polo. It did look quite pleasant though. So can you now do a story on the modern, and widely played, hardcourt version. I think you'll find the resulting video much closer to the GCN brand, Try searching "Hardcourt Bike Polo World Championships" for a starting point.
Looks fun! Side note: I'm not even british or have english as my first language - but that pro player must have some serious upper class accent am I right?
I only twigged about half way through that the reason Hank wasn't practising much and kept referring to the GCN team as them, was because he has of course already played normal polo (I imagine- can you confim James?), so its not much of a learning curve for him.
Great stuff!!! Next - You guys should check Cycle-Ball (Radball). Played 2 on 2, awesome fun and the best - quite impossible for newbie. However track cycling background helps. 😜
Please do a feature on Hardcourt Bike Polo. The community is global, passionate, and definitely on the fringe. Topics could be the inclusiveness (diversity encouraged, sometimes mandated),etiquette, history, and the handful of dedicated people producing frames and equipment. Please get in touch with London Bike Polo.
Never tried bike polo, but a few years ago I tried Radball (bike football). The serious competitors use fixies but we just used regular bikes. Ended up looking more like bike rugby and nobody could score as the ball always got buried in a pile of bikes but was good fun!
That park is not in Cirencester! It's actually in South Cerney, which is a village about five miles south of Cirencester. Come on GCN, this kind of thing can start some serious Cotswold beef...
also, if you're investigating weird cycling disciplines would love to see a video on having a go at 'artistic cycling' that weird combination of floor gymnastics and fixed gear cycling. Or really any of the UCI Indoor cycling events like radball, where you play indoor football with bikes...
A simply brilliant video, so well put together. I'm sure that with GCN exposure, something will happen. I'd love to have a go. Some time ago, I asked GCN to feature the sport at the other end of the cycling social scale - cycle speedway. Bring it on.
The original game played with a hard ball,(like a hockey ball) the game was 6 chuckas, 15min per chuckas I played it in Ireland for 30 year's on the polo grounds in Dublin. There is no better game and hard court or grass once its bike polo. Its an extremely hard game as it used to be played on fixed wheel. Some of the biggest bike companies actually sold polo bike in the since 1930s to the 1960s . Just try it local three a side or even three and in rule , hard court or grass just try it you will be hooked 😉
Kudo's to whoever pulled back the goal posts when the GCN goal was scored, like the ball created so much wind turbulence as it blew by. Reminds me of the phrase "(s)he's not blowing down any trees out there".
Hmm... This version of bike polo is quite different than the one that is played here in montreal, in terms of preferred equipment and field. We play with only a front brake (instead of only a rear brake) and we use an outside hockey arena (covered with asphalt) instead of a soccer field (covered in grass).
Terrific fun guys! Certainly got the fitness & speed, just the ball control needs a bit more mastery & you've got it licked. Such a good work-out, was surprised there weren't more collisions & injuries!
Have you tried Bike Polo? Would you give it a go?
I'll be honest, Ive never heard of it before😕 Does looks fun gotta say, the worse the bike, the better💯
You guys should try hardcourt bike polo, it's far more common worldwide

I play for Oakenden bike polo in Kent if anyone in Kent wants to give it a go! I fully recommend it it’s such a fun sport to play 😊
I want to see a GCN vs GMBN match!
up you go. with GTN referees.
to be honest though, I think GMBN will shred in this game.
This has to happen now!
GMBN will not work if they use Neil, you forgot the main rule: No crashes! Lol
@@gemmobian454 That's what I think as well, but I still want to see it.
The best part of this video is Manon's constant, confused, "I don't want to be here, why is he so excited?" glances at Hank.
imma a simple lad. imma saw manon in thumbnail, imma clicked, imma Liked...

Rafael Cordeiro we’re committed to our jobs 😂

you guys always remind me that biking is supposed to be silly fun.
always
Hardcourt next. See how you do against an assorted bunch of London couriers, rude boys and hipsters. 😂
They are welcome anytime! We’re more than ready for GCN.
Yes. I’ve been playing hard court bike polo for about 5 years now. It’s a blast.
Hardcourt Bike Polo !!! Is the current Polo. Hopefully GCN take the time to look at it. You would be welcome in any club or Competition. But anyways any bikepolo is better the non Bikepolo.
"Rule #2: No Crashes. We want to have a flowing game more like ice hockey."
Ummm. Someone has never watched ice hockey. Check please!
@gcn would be good to see a comparison video on hardcourt bike polo. A rather different game and skillset. It is growing rapidly world wide with quite a few clubs throughout England.
This man sounds exactly like someone one might expect to be teaching one how to play polo 😂 (also seems like a lovely guy)
Some drone footages would have been great!
Surely Hank will be World Champion at this with 2 weeks of training!
" 'Cause I'm the only one who has played it before"
It's in his genes
Hank would go on a 24 hour Bike Polo marathon.
I'm sure he will if they propose a 24h version
Probably not, but I’m betting Emma Pooley would do it.
In Polo, the people playing mean, technically, every shot is a millionaire shot.
The pro teams round here (Surrey/West Sussex) are mostly exploited South American teenagers living in caravans. About as far from millionaires as you could imagine. The owners on the other hand...

I'm Welsh like Manon, but this is probably the most British video I've seen in a while. Really good. The humour and accents.
Can you guys make some track cycling videos, I’m really interested in track and don’t know that much about it…
Coming soon!
“Let’s breathe some positivity.” What a quote! This video s classic, legendary GCN.
Just don't do it while there's a pandemic going on ;)
The fact that it is played with steel, fixie mountain bikes which makes it a readily affordable sport really puts it in contrast to traditional polo.
Pretty cool game!
Here in Canada 🇨🇦 we play it on hockey rinks - without the ice. The boards keep the ball in play at all times.
My impression of bike polo before this video - gritty and urban, played under flyovers by gnarled bike couriers. After the video - what Prince Harry does when his polo horse is injured
Haha, this is definitely the posh, public school version of the game! Jolly good Mungo.
Hardcourt Bikepolo has a much more active and global scene..with world and regional championships, federations. etc. 👌🏻
But I don't think they'd have nearly as much fun playing it for the first time with no experience. First timers are usually absolutely useless.
But that’s played by uncouth ruffians! Some of them aren’t even rich white torys, I think gcn would melt if exposed to them
@@moredots first timers are mostly just disturbing and that's the biggest part of defending your goal
It would be great for them to go over to Bristol and play some hard court. Show the commoner end of the sport where it isn't an alternative to riding your horse!
How about GCN trying bicycle gymnastics? I think Conor might be at a very slight disadvantage. But it would be fun to see him try it.

I was really expecting hardcourt bike polo on fixies
Most hardcourt bike polo players now a days...don’t play on fixed gear. They are single speed.
It’s time to give a new image to Hardcourt. Gone are the hipster Dixie days.

Hank looked right at home
If they didn't introduce him, I'd know the horse polo player just by his accent while instructing around the 4:50 mark

GCN had won if they had their best player there who is Jeremy! He would hit the ball with his wheel:) Well done as always GCN!
I guess Hank is teaching the whole GCN to crash like he does
The world needs more GCN bike polo!!!!
We used to play bike polo in University on fixies every week. Instead of grass, we played on concrete tennis courts. It was great fun.
Hardcourt bike polo has transitioned to single speed most. Fixed gears are old school.
Wow. Someone even more posh than Hank

Should have gone for Hardcourt Bike Polo.
I heard only idiots and drunks play that.
(It's Jonas by the way, pint and polo soon?)
Idiots, drunks and engineers apparently. Probably at least a few weeks before we can.
You know they need Brother in Law Nigel and Hank's Dad to improve the team
That would be the ultimate team
This is like Top Gear, but for bikes. And that is a good thing.
That looked like a lot of fun...and quite the workout! GCN vs GMBN would be fantastic!
