- Being dropped. Falling off the back. Getting spat. Whatever you call it, getting dropped on a bike ride is never fun. It's even less fun when you work for GCN and the whole ordeal is caught on camera. Sadly, that's what happened to Doncaster's own Ollie 'Who's off the back?!' Bridgewood when he attempted to help Conor, Alex, and Hank beat Si in our recent 4 vs 1 challenge. But what actually happened? How did someone so disciplined with his training crumble so quickly? How did the self proclaimed 'King of Aero' get dispatched almost immediately? You'll have to watch to find out...

Just earlier today I saw an older video of Dan and Si in Mallorca showcasing a 380w ftp for Dan. I kind of wish he would present videos again. Maybe switch the drunkard image with a mentor image?

And that is life, we never actually hear them say it, they just do it, whether at work or even friends and family. And it is just brutal to get dropped and left to flounder and I experienced that twice just over a decade ago during the economic downturn. Two long-time employers simply called me in and said, you know, you can go now. And it is a stunning drop, to go from loyal and capable and popular to none of the above. And the title of an episode of an old radio show came to mind. Like, man, somebody dig me.

And this is why I don't club ride... First of all, I'm not good enough and second of all, the cut-downs(real and perceived) are too psychologically BRUTAL😢... Biking is hard!!

Ollie is a man amongst gods, an amateur cycling with pros, day in day out and his moral never cracks. On top of that he 1. got a PhD and 2. even more important an FTP above 300. And then he‘s humble enough to laugh about not being able to keep up.

What would really make it would be the occasional guest, which wouldn't necessarily have to be anyone special. Maybe club riders from around the Country, perhaps via Zoom...and in the better weather, outdoor reports on club level rides.

@@ITsupportian No it was out and back so if there was a tailwind there was a headwind too. He just pretends to be the everyman; he is fast as hell and he has won hillclimbs in England where those events are like a religion. Don't believe that everyman thing he does. Great guy but average he is not.

This vid was such a good idea. Hilarious to watch, but I also enjoyed the TTT insights from Conor on joining the line after pulling a turn.
There's even more to it than that. If the next rider in line takes off like it's a sprint, instead of a strong, albeit gradual, increase in speed, the result is just about inevitable for a paceline to fracture. Each new rider on the front must, at the beginning of their turn, either hold to the speed they were at (when being pulled) for a tiny bit of time, or only gradually increase for the ~15 seconds it takes for the previous rider to catch onto the back. Only when that rider is back on is it OK to boost the paceline's speed at a more immediate tempo. It's a set of skills for all to have, not just the rider coming off of the front.
I love how GCN can make a parody out of all the presenters and it's hilarious!
They do make it quite easy for us to be fair!

As someone who rides an old steel roadie but still considered himself somewhat fit, I think it was Ollie falling behind that made me realise to what extent everyone was pushing themselves, fair play to him for doing so well, after researching a little more the actual numbers that make road cycling in truly amazed by everyone's performances 😅

This. This is the kind of investigative journalism that we need right now.
I feel for Ollie. He did cover all the excuse bases: wrong bike, no aero helmet, unsuitable course, other riders doing the wrong thing. Having to ride with that undisciplined "team" that looked nothing like a team except for matching kit must have been brutal for such a perfectionist. I only hope that Manon can make the difference and bring back a smile to Ollie's sunny face!

He's the butt of a lot of gags Ollie, but the reality is he's very strong for an amateur rider. I've seen him very high up on the Strava leaderboards, particularly on climbs
