Their first album kicked ass and is still a favorite of mine today. Terry Bozzio is a legend as far as drums go. I just wish their 2nd album sounded similar to their 1st. Thanks for the history!
Good to see someone doing a band story on Missing Persons, they do deserve it. Bernard Edwards was Chic's legendary bass player (his walking bass on disco tracks like "Good Times" made music history). While in Chic he and guitarist Nile Rodgers produced several disco artists, then went their separate ways as producers: Nile did Bowie's Let's Dance and Madonna's Like a Virgin albums while Bernard produced Duran Duran's side project The Power Station. From what you say all these people were going to the same parties back then ;) Didn't know he had also produced MP. Nice cat co-host!
I was in high school in the early 80s when MTV came out. I always thought Dale Bozzio of MP and famed Zappa drummer Terry Bozzio had the same last name as a coincidence. I never would have thought that Missing Persons was really a group of talented musicians. I always thought they were just another new wave band trying to make it on the hotness of their lead singer.
Loved that album when I was a teen. The Somber Windows, Here and Now, Mental Hopscotch are a perfect blend of L.A punk, and Glam. I had the 2nd album, and I just didn't care. But that first album is perfection!!! Terry the drummer played with the mighty Zappa and he's outstanding!!! I discovered this much later after RUclips became a thing.
Cool. Im 56 and was around as a kid getting into bands like these. Remembering watching Mtv constantly because ive never seen what these bands looked like and had to know. What a great time it was.
Thank you for this excellent video! I've been a huge fan of Missing Persons from when I first saw Mental Hopscotch on MTV. One of the best bands of that era (I mean anyone that plays with Frank is automatically incredible). Terry is one of the best drummers ever and Dale is a trend setter. I think a direct line can be drawn from Dale to Madonna to Lady Gaga.
Frank sucked. His son has true talent. The missing Persons were tops along with Devo, Adam and the Ants, Big Country. echo and the Bunnymen, and the English Beat etc.. The list goes on and on.

Bernard Edward's was a member of Chic prior to becoming a music producer. Moon Unit Zappa stated in her book Earth to Moon that Dale Bozzio did stay at Frank Zappa's place to recover from her accident.
I just read Moon Unit Zappa’s book, and she talks about Dale being moved into their house (into her room) after having had severe injuries. Moon talked about taking care of Dale for about two weeks until one day Dale was gone. Just gone.
When Dale, Terry, Warren , and Patrick played with Frank , Frank suggested they should go start a band called " Cute Persons." But Dale decided to call it Missing Persons because they were missing from Franks band.
The 4 song EP was the first record I got from them when it came out. I LOVED it so much and couldn't wait to hear more from them. I really liked them especially the drummer. He was a big influence on me for sure..!!
"Walkin' in LA", "Destination Unknown" "Words", etc. were so catchy. Had no idea about the Zappa connection, or the other stuff she went through. So crazy. Nice vid. I remember the dawn of MTV and Destination Unknown is burned into my mind like R. Budd Dwyer. You should check out Marina Bozzio. She's Dale's daughter(pre Terry). Terry taught her drums and she is an absolute beast. Plays/played for "Aldiuos", a kickass Japanese female metal band. You should do a video on the doors
They are on the list for sure
All I know is , when you are in your 50s that it is time to let someone else have the torch . But I can tell you that5 their music got me a lot of sex .
Of course you didn't know about the band you look like you're about 24 years old I'm 56 they were awesome and she was the hottest chick ever
Same old Rock Band story, different faces same deal. Start out with friends, end up as litagants.
Very true ...indeed
She was put on life support on Frank Zappa's couch?
No, the life support came after she was “shipped” back home
Too bad u never listened to joes garage....they mention warrens name in catholic girls
:07 What the cat doin?
Honestly, whatever he wants. He owns the place we just live here
@@soundofhistory_ Yup. 7 seconds in and the cats foot going up. That cracked me up so thanks for leaving it. I had never heard of this band before and I'm a Zappa fan so thanks for that too. Btw you did pronounce Warrens' last name correctly and you can probably hear Dale say it on Joe's Garage in Catholic Girls.
👍👍👍❤❤❤🎵🎵🎵
So you know, it's pronounced Boz -ee-o, not Boaz-ee-o
Wrong, the o is long
MTV was cool until they became political over the top stupid.
All they do is play Ridiculousness
I agree with that..
She was a Hustler "Honey" centerfold. Don't know about Playboy.
Had it as a teenager hid it between my mattress. I think she posed for hustler twice and she was a playboy bunny at a club but didn't pose.
What year ?
@@helbitkelbit1790 she was in it twice guessing 78 to 80. Just Google Dale bozio and hustler magazine or nude photos of Dale bozio.
@@helbitkelbit1790 March 1979 and February 1980. She was the Valentines Day issue cover girl.
Thank you for the background on the band. They were so completely underrated. These were Zappa level musicians for godssakes that decided to make groundbreaking alt punk. Dammit Dale you broke it.
