Buzzcocks sparked the music scene in Manchester. Through introducing the city to punk music, inspiring bands like Joy Division, the Smiths, and Oasis, and by being the first punk band to start their own record label, Buzzcocks transformed what music could be.

I'm so glad u made this video and yes magazine needs more attention then they get I was lucky to see Buzzcocks in the 90s pete Shelly rip memory eternal 🙏🏾☦️🦋🕊🔥
Steve Diggle, we love you. RIP PETE
Saw them live in Zagreb, while Pete was still alive. I almost died pogoing around,i lost my phone jumping around while my heart was in my throat. Old fool
BUZZCOCKS are my old love. SINGLES GOING STEADY was issued in Yugoslavia in the 80s,i listened it to death
I got a tingle! Gimme that book!!
Thanks for this, you are right about David Nolan's book, a must-read about "the Gig that Changed the World". I saw Buzzcocks live in 1979, wih Joy Division, great days!.
Oh man, I’m jealous of that
It's a solid telling of their history but you left out the three great final singles, Part 1, Part 2 and Part 3. Maybe my six favorite songs by them. They're important to me because I bought them right as they came out when I was in high school. Yes, I'm old. Keep up the good work. Rock on!
Buzzcocks certainly had a unique quirky sound and were my secret love as i made the transition from UK punk into US hardcore. Ironically, the only album i own is A Different Kind Of Tension but i can listen to that beauty from start to finish. I see Steve on social media all the time...and i do believe he's currently touring in the US. Love the video. Cheers
Don't tell Steve that 😄 Thanks for watching!
oh perfect fckn timing, this was so good i watched it at normal speed. loved it
Haha thanks!

Hay just come across your videos, really enjoyed this about my home town Manchester band, nice to hear a mention of my favourite band the fall :) if you haven't planned on doing one yet would you consider doing a video on Suburban Lawns? their story is worth a video I reckon. looking forward to more stuff.
Thanks for watching! I’ll add em to the list
Great video. I saw buzzcocks at Blackburn uk.i lot of gobin.78😮
I'm jealous
Cool video! You should make a video on Beck or The Tubes
I’ve purchased the book, but since Pete was always the heart of Buzzcocks(Never Mind the “The”), I’ll wait for Howard Devoto to write the story. I’m sure Diggle is a nice guy, but he wasn’t the George Harrison of the band, he was more the Ringo. The fact he’s still using the name reeks of desperation. It’s would be like Ringo’s All-Star band touring as The Beatles.
I know the original bass player Garth (uncle of a friend). When you mention that Lesser Free Trade Hall gig and who was allegedly there his response is "bullsh!t"
Yeah, everyone has a different story which is one of the funniest parts about that book I mentioned
@@soundofhistory_ he was also complaining that when it was represented in the film 24 hour party people every man and his dog who wasn't there was shown but he was there & wasn't shown 😂😂
Haha that’s honestly a fair complaint
I saw them in 2003? I think. And barely made it out of the moshpit alive
sounds to me that the Pistols were the ones who changed the music scene 😀
They did for sure. But Buzzcocks bringing them to Manchester, then being the nucleus of the Manchester scene and starting their own label really changed music
they really just changed Manchester whereas the Pistols changed the world
You can argue that those Manchester bands changed the world, especially in the post punk era. Not too mention how they basically brought us Emo music and then Oasis. A lot of that is traced back to Buzzcocks
begging for a smashing pumpkins video🙏🙏
Added to the list!
