You really did a lot of research and as a B-M lover for several years I really appreciate that you put this out with such honesty and affection! This quote of yours is epic, too: "Rock is not dead. Yes, this definitely needs more. You didn't even mention Miku's species! 🙁 😉🤣 Great video. I agree with you about their compositional skills and individual charisma. I've also been thinking about how for all Miku's childlike, kawaii-turned-up-to-eleven persona, what she did at the beginning (fired herself as lead singer and hired Saiki) shows more maturity than a lot of more conventionally rock star-ish musicians. Saiki's one of - no, I'm not gonna qualify that. Saiki IS my favorite singer, full stop.
Hey Wave--magnificent job on this documentary on the band. We all know that it was a labor of love on your part. Excellent point on Miku actually going with finding another singer for the sake of the band. You mentioned that all important part of Band-Maid, they are such a tightly bonded sisterhood based on mutual respect, humility, kindness and their insanely strong work ethic. Wasn't it Akane who said they were a "miracle band"? Indeed--and such a beautiful gift to the world they are! Thanks again for such a wonderful video. You rock as always!
These 5 ladies are amazingly talented musicians, destined to be together as an artists they valued the art of music not just for their own satisfaction but they did it for the Masses and they do cares their fans as master and princess. They are the most humbled and sweet. Great efforts Mr Wave, Thank you
Great video Wave! I learned a few new things! I hope you actually continue on with a part 2! Continue with the history and maybe about their catchy compositions.
Thank you Wave, that was a great introduction to Band-Maid 🙂 What you said in the intro is exactly how I felt it when I found them early in 2021, just after the release of Unseen World. RUclips had been suggesting Thrill for a few months before I finally caved in and gave Band-Maid a listen. I was deep into K-Rock and Rolling Quartz at the time and was a bit hesitant about BM's outfit, but boy was I in for a shock hearing Thrill for the first time. Thrill was the first MV on BM's YT channel and I continued by listening to Real Existence, Don't let med down and Alone. That was all it took and I fell into the pigeon hole of Band-Maid, I had struck gold, the motherlode, I'm sure I will never ever leave LOL. I knew I had found something special, and I have played BM nonstop ever since. BM became my favorite band of all times, and I have bought everything they have released. I've only bouth the entire catalog with 2 other bands, The Beatles in the 70s, Dream Theater in the 2010s, and Band Maid recently.
Thank you for giving us a complete beginning story while condensing and clarifying it. This is a great video to show friends and newcomers who these incredible ladies really are. You hit the nail perfectly with your explanation of why they give us something familiar yet completely new. Once again Thanks.
Absolutely brilliant wave really enjoyed this article. Have been following you for a while now I really like your calm informed approach please keep up this excellent work I look forward to the next episode of Band maid history. TK
Thanks for your video. I finally have a link I can pass around to my skeptical friends to describe how the band got formed. Overall, very well done! I have one clarification though, that I'm surprised I didn't see another comment on. Miku was previously in a girl-band (all vocalists), so she had some experience. She wasn't just singing to a mirror. I don't recall the name of the band, but they released a video. Knowing her personality now, it is comical to watch, as she is the only one emoting, playing around, and generally looking relaxed. It was obvious she was the standout personality. Thanks again!
Now that you mention it, I think I remember seeing that! I wonder if that kinda got lost in translation in the interviews I was reading. Thank you Boris!
In 2009 I lived with no cable so I had a government cable box to watch TV. When I wanted International TV news and other culture's worldwide PBS would have an affiliate program I watched NHK World Japan. They're broadcast itinerary covered many venues and I got addicted to a music program show called JMelo that featured Japanese music to the world with a mix of studio or live performances of Japan's unbelievable players along with a storm of a fan base all over the world! In 2013 or 2014 the hostess of this show (a very gifted singer) May J, introduced Band Maid on her program. I thought to myself, now these girls sound different. Two years later they became the best Rock band in Japan. All things known about this Band no one talks about is that when Miku found Kanami on the internet, Kanami even said she was an acoustic guitarist with another group. Are you feeling this? She wasnt playing Rock untill she joined Band Maid! She broke the mold as an acoustic performer if you ask me! The other thing about Rock being dead. It is dead...in mainstream America USA! The industry had been trying to ban Rock since Elvis too sexy for TV variety shows. It took them rich moguls decade after decade long wait and they finally did it early 2000! They had they're chance years before but MTV who adamantly hated Rock told this Band's manager they will show this band only once at 2:30 in the morning when no one is watching(or so they thought). This band was Guns and Roses! The rest is history and the moguls had to wait it out again... Even if there is a Rock genre (ironic), in America no one in mainstream sounds Rock. They go on Idol shows and forget it, Rock will not win on Idol shows! They have to conform to the judges and producers. Screw the conformists...Japan's Band Maid Best All Girl Rock Band! As Miku would say..."You enjoy?" 67 year old Rock and Metal musician...
I discovered them just a few months ago by chance, just saw in my recommendations (don't even know why but THANK YOU RUclips) a thumbnail of some cute Japanese girls with instruments and clicked on it. Their music just blew my mind 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘 Fell in love instantly 😍😍😍😍😍 I'm a 55 years old Classic 70s and 80s Rock fan and I believe they are completely amazing. You can hear old and new styles combined in an great way. Now they are my favorite Rock band from the last (possibly) 20+ years, and one of my favorite of all time 🪕🎸🥁🎻🎤
Dude, this was amazing! Huge Maidiac here, so proud to see these ladies gathering such a large following here in the states. Can't wait to see the rest of this series. Subbed.
Thank you so much for the history of one of my favorite bands in the last 10 years! It's kinda rare to find documentary info on J-Rock in English. You're work and research is awesome! Subscribed!
arigato❣️ impressive video 💌 i want you to shed light on supporting characters especially, the president of the production company he put all budget into completing MV ( thrill ) for BAND MAID he had decided to dissolve
@@WavePotter oh! certainly the source is a difficult to find because this episode was what MIKU was talking about in a chat sorry,it's an impossible wish for you 🙏
Thank you for taking the time to make this cool video. This band has progressed so much. I can’t wait to see them in Seattle 10/12/22. They really took off when they started writing their own music. They all had hidden talents that emerged once they took full control of composing their own music.
Man what a great video. Congrats. I've been following this band close to 5 years now and have heard or read a lot about them but you were able to find a couple of gems about them I haven’t heard before. Again thank you.
This is a great video that is very useful to introduce BAND-MAID! If you write [日本語字幕] in Japanese in the title, it will catch the eye of more Japanese people :) To be honest, most of the Japanese subtitles in the videos on RUclips are terrible, so I'm watching with the subtitles turned off, but the Japanese subtitles in this video are pretty good! Thank you so much!
Thank you so much for the tip! I appreciate it. I'll change that right now. And i manually typed all the words in the video so the auto translate could be as accurate as possible, so hopefully that helps. I'm glad you appreciate the video! :) Thanks for watching!
@@WavePotter your doin a great justice to us Maidiac fans you and Ryan and Alan and Champ. I hope I got all your names right? Lol😂 I watch your tea tions and Guijun guys show continually. Great job to all of you. Keep it up
This is great and long overdue. There are a lot of anniversaries related to Band-Maid. From interviews with Miku and photos of commemorative banners at early live shows. They are- Her first idea for the Maid/Band concept- March 2013. First rehearsal as a quartet 5 June 2013. First live show as quartet 24 July 2013. Saiki joins in early Aug 2013. First live show with Saiki 22 Aug 2013. First headline show 8 Feb 2014 Milkyway club Tokyo I believe. I'm pretty shure that there is film footage of the band as a four piece and also their first show with Saiki. It's out there somewhere. Saw your 'Come Together' cover recently- Genius Wave. As a note to all this, after some comments by others, I'm not sure that Kanami even owned and electric guitar until the band was formed. Miku said- she was singing and playing acoustic guitar when she spotted her on youtube in mid 2013.
Thank you so much for sharing all of this. Very interesting! It will be helpful for future videos. And thank you so much for the kind words on the cover!
@@WavePotter No probs Wave. You and Ryan are my fave reactors. Anyway this why the Eggman club in Shibuya, Tokyo means so much to the band and why they still reserve a date for it on their tours and why it's the one show that everyone wants to go to. If I come across the footage again that I mentioned I'II send you the links for them.
I shared this with our Facebook group. Great job! I don't know if you knew, but July 18th was the anniversary of when Band-Maid became a thing, without Saiki, who joined on the 25th of August which is their official anniversary. Check out the posts in our group.
Nicely done and hopefully more people will realise what a unique band The Maids are when more of their story is told. Great to relive the story of without any doubt to me. The Band that saved Rock music.
Wave, my good man, this was SUGOI! Thanks for doing this and doing it so well. In addition to telling the story really well, you articulated not only for me but for 1000s and 1000s of rock fans why we fell in love and stay in love with this band! 🤘🤠🤘
Thanks for this video, it just helped cement what I already knew about the band as well as giving me new information. I love Band-Maid, in particular their early releases, for the tones each of the girls put down on record as well as the musicianship and mixes. When I first heard them Misa's bass tones in particular stood out, then I was amazed at the amount of sound Akane put out with her little kit. Tell the truth, I immediately drew comparisons between hers and John Bonham's small kit. :) Edit: BTW, Miku's vocals are fine and, but I have to say Saiki takes the lead vocal up another notch or even two. Such a powerful voice! Thanks again for the video, much appreciated. Too bad I won't be able to see them on their 2022 U.S. tour, but I listen to them daily.
You've got a pleasant and calm voice, perfect for this kind of documentary style. Band-Maid can't get enough praise, and this is a good way to introduce them to a bigger crowd. One little criticism, because that's me :-): The moment you introduce the girls and their story how they got into the band, you should have stuck to images of that particular girl. Else, for a newcomer it's confusing to combine a name to a face. For the rest, well done!
Great introduction to the Maids, Wave. Thanks for doing that. If we could only get a hard hitting, fast-paced Band-Maid Documentary on some TV shows. We need someone to do a 2-minute power package that can go out to the media. I can't believe B-M mgmt. hasn't done that as part of a campaign announcing the arrival of the Maids for each city on their upcoming USA Tour. They need to study The Warning's latest media blitz that included radio interviews and even in-studio performances, etc. that has moved them very close to Band-Maid's numbers.
Your literation was well laid out, and insightful. Maybe later you can give a epilog. I mean, yes I obviously we all know BM went on to be this great band and all. But, I would like to better understand how Misa almost quit the band, and the band itself almost broke up before Trill was posted on utube and really brought them world notoriety. Thanks again !!
Might have been a good idea to include Miku's time in an idol unit called Lil Cumin, when she was known as Mika Noguchi. This was a year before Band-Maid was formed. It got Miku into the music biz. She also had a small part in a TV show, trying out as an actor. Saiki joined about a month after Band-maid was officially formed. (ie in August 2013.) In interviews Kanami says she started learning piano "when she was small" - which I take to mean in 1st grade or thereabouts.
Such a great documentary! Much of this I had already known as I've been a full blown addicted Maidiac for 5 years now. But I really enjoyed the way you presented this! And for many of those who are just recently finding this amazing band, this was a great way to learn a lot of the important info. Thanks for your efforts here and here's to a part 2! I never tire of hearing and learning about these 5 amazing women! Kurrupo! 🕊
What a great vid Wave - I thought I knew most of their history but learnt a few things from your doco. Great stuff and looking forward to more like this.
LOVE THIS VIDEO.... I hate the "REACT" videos which is more about the person stealing some attention and views from this great band, and the reactions are often dumb and self serving. Hate that. *Your analysis clearly well researched, honors the band, giving cool insight to Band-Maid fans.* Why are they so good. LOTS OF REASONS... they Rock, members are talented, cool, music is engaging, fun, and band is very tight. They do instrumentals ! and many songs there are short solos in context of the song like jazz. Each of them amazing. BAND MAID Tour 2022.... USA.
Band-maid is the best Rock band out there currently. Even though I don't speak Japanese, I listen to them on my daily spotify rotation. And that wont change anytime soon!
Thanks for this video! I heard of this group for a few months but dismissed them as gimmicky fluff. But they sound like legit musicians interested in the craft. I will definitely check them out!
I wish I was present at this premiere, but I was unfortunately at work. This is an excellent documentary, and I honestly wish it was longer. I'm sure you have a lot more content that you were dying to put into this. I await the full documentary with bated breath!
Great stuff! I'll always argue that rock wasn't dead, it (and all the fans) were just waiting for a decent rock band to come along. Five pretty, petite and super talented women from Japan...who knew?
Wave , japanese has this pop culture that they incorporate in thier music , I've been watching listening many jrock and j metal but they insert some poponess in thier music... And band maid is unique that I've encounter as they create thier music ,, thier transition capture my attention ,... And hope that you can interview them at the US is possible and create a documentary ...well thanks for your effort for spreading this kind of documentary it helps to gain more fans...
A brilliant bit of work man. I know it's a lot of work, but this could be a thing for you. The same type of research & production on some other of your favorite bands. It would be a great series.
Amazing work Wave! Thanks for spreading the word and also thank you for going easy on superlatives which can sometimes turn off potential fans. I'm really looking forward to the next episode 😊
Great job Wave! Besides hiding the maid aesthetic from Saiki, they also didn't mention Miku was a pigeon until she already joined. I'll be at the Seattle concert with you. Can't wait.
Thank you so much Wave for this vid and any subsequent ones. Totally agree with the breakdown of what is special about this band. Like you, I've been along the same journey of rock awakening, though mine actually started with Nemophila but have found so many others (including Band-Maid) because of it. I've also picked up my dusty bass guitar too. Keep up the good work!
I just learned that this band is opening for a concert I'm going to here in NYC (The Last Rockstars) so I came here to check out what they're about! Thanks so much for the info :)
I understand that kanami and Akane wanted another guitarist have a fuller sound. And Miku not wanting another member said that she will then learn to play the guitar since she already hold the prop one. Also for Saiki the company not Miku understanded that another singer was needed and Miku agreed to make space. This ate one of the reasons I really respect Miku's.

Oh man you've just given me something to look forward to today! You are awesome!
Heeeey, & me as well.😄
Thx for your contribution to the World Domination. 💪👍
These 5 ladies are amazingly talented musicians, destined to be together as an artists they valued the art of music not just for their own satisfaction but they did it for the Masses and they do cares their fans as master and princess. They are the most humbled and sweet. Great efforts Mr Wave, Thank you
Thank you!
yes they all share the spot light ! it's like a beautiful symphony !
Well done Wave. Band Maid made me love music again!!!!
Wave, you sure are keeping yourself busy. Can't wait!
Great video Wave! I learned a few new things! I hope you actually continue on with a part 2! Continue with the history and maybe about their catchy compositions.
Thank you Space Ranger! I definitely plan on it!
I’m glad you appreciated it! Thank you for watching!
Absolutely brilliant wave really enjoyed this article. Have been following you for a while now I really like your calm informed approach please keep up this excellent work I look forward to the next episode of Band maid history. TK
Thank you so much Tim! I'm glad you appreciate what i do. :) And i will!
Miku , yeah and she has a great voice as shown in the newest full lead vocal she has done. very challenging melodies.
@@WavePotter FYI the group was Lil Cumin.
Wave Nice Documentary I believe *MISA* played guitar in prior bands before switching to the Bass.
Interesting! Thank you!
As Miku would say..."You enjoy?"
67 year old Rock and Metal musician...
I discovered them just a few months ago by chance, just saw in my recommendations (don't even know why but THANK YOU RUclips) a thumbnail of some cute Japanese girls with instruments and clicked on it. Their music just blew my mind 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘 Fell in love instantly 😍😍😍😍😍
I'm a 55 years old Classic 70s and 80s Rock fan and I believe they are completely amazing.
Subbed.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you Michael!
Thank you so much for the history of one of my favorite bands in the last 10 years! It's kinda rare to find documentary info on J-Rock in English. You're work and research is awesome! Subscribed!
Very informative. I usually hear the shortened version of this
Thank you for watching Bekka!
arigato❣️ impressive video 💌
i want you to shed light on supporting characters
especially, the president of the production company
he put all budget into completing MV ( thrill ) for BAND MAID he had decided to dissolve
Thank you! I'd love to. Do you know where i could find information on that?
@@WavePotter oh! certainly the source is a difficult to find
because this episode was what MIKU was talking about in a chat
sorry,it's an impossible wish for you
🙏
You rock Wave!
Thank you Sean! I have great role models to learn from! 😊
Thank you for taking the time to make this cool video. This band has progressed so much. I can’t wait to see them in Seattle 10/12/22. They really took off when they started writing their own music. They all had hidden talents that emerged once they took full control of composing their own music.
Well said. See you in Seattle!
Man what a great video. Congrats. I've been following this band close to 5 years now and have heard or read a lot about them but you were able to find a couple of gems about them I haven’t heard before. Again thank you.
I’m glad to hear that! Thanks so much Craig!
@@WavePotter Wow, cool! Don’t mention it, Wave 😉 I really appreciate your time and effort!
@@WavePotter wow Wave you are a class act typing all that!
This was excellent, thank you Wave!
Thank you Mike!
Thanks and beautiful Wave, rock never die, Band Maid forever.
A great introduction to our beloved ladies, Wave! 😎👍
Fingers crossed for a Part 2 of this ;)
Thank you Jonas!
Your passion, love and support for this band is appreciated. Excellent job and I am looking forward to the next installments.
I am a 65 old Japanese male, and so surprised you know so well and detail of Bandmaid rather than Japanese people I am so happy.
Great documentary Wavy. Can't wait to hear more about thus Phenomenal Band of Magical Musicians.
Thank you Jim!
@@WavePotter your doin a great justice to us Maidiac fans you and Ryan and Alan and Champ. I hope I got all your names right? Lol😂 I watch your tea tions and Guijun guys show continually. Great job to all of you. Keep it up
Nooo!!! It end too soon.. 😭😭😭. I really hope that this is 1 hour long documentary.. btw, great job Wave!
I'm glad you enjoyed it! There will definitely be more coming soon! Thank you!
@@WavePotter oh, i see.. can't wait for it! 😄
I missed the premiere! 😖
Awesome video, Wave! You're doing great work!
Thank you Yellow Clip! So are you! I'm really hoping this one will draw in some more rockers to check out the Maids!
@@WavePotter I'm in the shadows, you're the one facing the front line! 😅
Thank you wave that was awesome!
I'm glad you enjoyed it Davey! Thank you for watching!
That’s good to know! Thank you for sharing that and for sharing this on Facebook!
素晴らしいcomment、ジミヘンがくしゃみをして、彼女らを応援してることでしょう。
Nicely done and hopefully more people will realise what a unique band The Maids are when more of their story is told. Great to relive the story of without any doubt to me. The Band that saved Rock music.
Thank you Russell!
Wave, my good man, this was SUGOI! Thanks for doing this and doing it so well. In addition to telling the story really well, you articulated not only for me but for 1000s and 1000s of rock fans why we fell in love and stay in love with this band! 🤘🤠🤘
Thank you Jonathan! I'm glad it resonated with you!
Edit: BTW, Miku's vocals are fine and, but I have to say Saiki takes the lead vocal up another notch or even two. Such a powerful voice!
Thanks again for the video, much appreciated. Too bad I won't be able to see them on their 2022 U.S. tour, but I listen to them daily.
I'm glad you enjoyed the video! Thank you!
Gene Simmons...."Rock is dead". Band-Maid...."Hold my beer Gramps".
My only regret is that I have but one like to give for this brilliance.
Well done Wave. 🤘😎
Thank you so much Rick!
That’s exactly what I was thinking during the premiere! 🙃😅
Fantastic job Wave! I know how hard something like this can be to produce and you killed it. Really enjoyed it.
Thanks so much Aaron!
Thanks Wave for your dedication. I will be sure to share.
Thank you Lewis! I appreciate you!
I enjoy listen to music again because of this band
That’s amazing! Me too. Truly special band!
Thank you Tom! And yes that would be great!
Good job, Wave!
Thank you Gordon!
Great ideas for future videos! Thank you Wayne!
Thank you for sharing! This will be helpful for a future video!
Kurrupo! 🕊
I’m glad you appreciated it! Thank you Charles!
What a great vid Wave - I thought I knew most of their history but learnt a few things from your doco. Great stuff and looking forward to more like this.
I’m glad! Thanks so much Gerard!
Well done Wave. Thank you
My pleasure! Thank you Kurt!
@@WavePotter See you in Seattle. Take care.
Amazing job, brother. The only other band that ever grabbed my attention like Band-Maid has, was Mötley Crüe when I was 14... that was back in '83.
That was great ! Thanks for taking the time to put this together. I love this band so much. The Band-Maid community is great also. Again, Great Job !!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you!
That’s so awesome to hear! I’m glad you want to give them a chance!
I wish I was present at this premiere, but I was unfortunately at work. This is an excellent documentary, and I honestly wish it was longer. I'm sure you have a lot more content that you were dying to put into this. I await the full documentary with bated breath!
Thank you Rahim! We missed you at the premiere but no worries! Definitely more coming. 😊
Ya hit the nail on the head Wave!
Great stuff! I'll always argue that rock wasn't dead, it (and all the fans) were just waiting for a decent rock band to come along. Five pretty, petite and super talented women from Japan...who knew?
Great job Wave! You're an important voice for the band, so thanks for doing this.
Thank you Travis! I just hope it helps more people appreciate them!
Oh man, a personal interview would be soooo dope. 😍
Awesome job Wave
Thank you!
A brilliant bit of work man. I know it's a lot of work, but this could be a thing for you. The same type of research & production on some other of your favorite bands. It would be a great series.
That’s a great idea! I would definitely have fun with that! Thank you!
@@WavePotter Cool. I mean, you've got such a smooth, measured speaking voice. So perfect for reviews/critique' types of narratives.
I am so happy 😊 Wave san! This was so good! Excellent as usual. Great storytelling! Not very articulate me
So to summarize very very good!
Thank you so much Chris! I'm so glad you enjoyed it! :)
Amazing work Wave! Thanks for spreading the word and also thank you for going easy on superlatives which can sometimes turn off potential fans. I'm really looking forward to the next episode 😊
Thank you Nicolas! I'm glad you appreciated that!
Great job Wave! Besides hiding the maid aesthetic from Saiki, they also didn't mention Miku was a pigeon until she already joined. I'll be at the Seattle concert with you. Can't wait.
Thank you! Looking forward to meeting you!
I love band maid. I’m a rocker and heard them in 2015 from a friend in Japan and he said I should listen and I was hooked they amaze me every time
Great stuff, Wave!
Thanks Kevin!
Great documentary Wave, thanks for putting in the effort and sharing this with the world!
Thank you Hiawatha! My pleasure!
