For just a side character this was masterfully executed and hit me right in the feels when he cried over his master who betrayed him and when his Wife came on his deathbed. Excellent. My favorite scene in GK

This was such a well thought out and executed way to portray dementia. Even though it was an action scene it brought me to tears in memory of Grandparent's that I've had to watch go though similar fates.
This is forever cemented as one of my top anime
Beautifully said
Yeah I thought it was interesting how it showed his dementia having a glitch effect and turning everything back to his era
I agree. I lost my father to Alzheimers so i can relate. This was so beautiful in a sad way
Your elders are not dead, they live through you, smile for them, reach for their signature within you, and you will understand that you are not "yourself", you are all of them, together.
Peace upon you wise beings, take care.
@@Paraclef no my grandfather wasn't related to me
This series is a great example on how develop a character, in less than 20 minutes this old man and Tsukishima in one of the previous episodes, became way more interesting than characters of other series that have the spotlight for far longer.
and now Tsurumi
Couldn't agree more!!!

@@fettel1988 true, I liked it. especially the later episodes.
Not after this clip, time to binge watch ....
I love how each episode is graphically stunning. Quality!
They have been improving but nightmarish CGI bears aside it was never bad sadly that aspect was so notorious that maybe it gave the series an unfair bad rep.
@@g.sergiusfidenas6650 bruh the bear was in like 2 episodes and it wasn't even that bad, no reason for a show to get a bad rep over something so little.
@@dwafieuafoa7272 it was pretty bad but that aspect has been greatly exagerated, really unlucky it just happened to be in the very first episode, Retar when was animated with CGI was pretty good.
Vice Commander of the Shinsengumi, the Shinsengumi came about during the Meiji Era of Japan and are known as one if not the most influential groups at the time of its inception, originally created as a means too stop and curb assassination attempts on the Shogun as well as the rest of the Tokugawa Shogunate and retainers at that time, thank you Rurouni Kenshin for that bit of knowledge, I learned more about history from anime than I did in books, all I needed was a push
The Wolves of Mibu
Hijikata was raised in a farmer family of Ishida village. He had the wild dream of becoming a samurai. Only people with samurai lineage were allowed to become a samurai thus for someone with humble background like Hijikata, it is like an imaginary dream. People mocked him for that. Also Shinsengumi wasn't recognized as samurai only saw them as a Yakuza gang by the town they were protecting. In latest Bakumatsu era, despite their government who rule japan for centuries and pretigious samurai families already retreated from the war and surrendered, Hijikata and other resistances choose to continue to fight until their death. Hijikata who was mocked by his allies for dreaming to become a samurai, recognized and honored for his bravery and loyalty by his enemies as the last samurai of Bakumatsu.
"Is he in here?" Well, only one guy in the room is actually shaded, so I'm guessing it's him.

@@aj_the_infamous1013 It's like those old Scooby-Doo cartoons. "I wonder which bookshelf is actually a secret door? Could it maybe be the only one that's rendered?"
This show made me cry for an old man I only knew for 20 minutes...
Anime Rule #23: Never fight the old man.
On the contrary, do fight him. But don't understimate him.
Man. The way he had died was really quite impactful. Especially the part where he cried out about his master betraying him and that everything he did was for his master. A really nice send off at the end.
He also cried about not wanting to commit seppuku.
Later he died with a cut wound through the stomach.
@@timothynguoi5762 Yeah, that too. Makes it a whole lot impactful.

this yoichiro guy would be a similar "historical" figure to the one depicted in rurouni kenshin, right? an assassin working for the meiji dudes, fighting the shinsengumi. I love Golden Kamuy and all the little moving parts the author managed to get into the story
Excellent way of once again depicting the hitokiri and shinsengumi.
This episode really is my favorite one out of GK so far. Amazing character development in just over 20 minutes, sort of makes me wonder what else he did in his life.
after working with dementia i can confirm this is how it can be sometimes. not the situation but the flashbacks. ect.
I love the concept of badass old man
Been a while since a good anime suggestion was on RUclips for me. I WILL be watching this TONIGHT
Im so glad I decided to just check this show out one day. Now I'm addicted
I loved every minute of this anime. So much fun
He reminds me so much of Kogan Iwamoto from Shigurui. They aren't identical in personality, as Iwamoto was a monster in the more traditional sense, but seeing both swordsmen become extremely capable in their advancing years as soon as an opponent appeared is incredible.
To be fair in Shigurui everyone was a monster in more than one sense but yes Kogan was one of the worst alongside Irako and their lord, Tadanaga.
Man said get in line.
the best episode so far in entire golden kamuy imo.
One of my favorite anime’s rn 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Of all the recommendations that RUclips has thrown at me, It FINALLY did me a solid.
Word it did
This episode was a masterpiece
Awesome Golden Kamuy Video.
The anime is so underrated at the moment!
The best anime I do not want to end I hope that it will not be the last part and I hope that the episodes are above the 12th
This clip made me watch the show and it quite top notch
That old man is a dangerous asf
reminds me of zeno zoldyck ..
Wow this looks amazing definitely gonna watch this
Starts off a little slow but what will have you watching more is the characters and the interesting interactions between antagonists and protagonist. This anime will always have you wanting more for one reason or another.
@@pi3man252 IKR! When I started watching the series a bit more I wanted no one to die because I liked every character cause they all seemed goofy and had good personalities XD.

Good choice. If you don't mind the CGI bears in season one, you're in for a ride.

ive been putting it off cause it had the historical vibe to it. but is it any good?
@@dethlife111 it’s actually sick asf , the historical aspect isn’t over the top and is interesting overall.

This "senile old man" is more ripped than I will ever be.
Where has this been all my life....
That's what you get for wearing shoes inside
Sorry Yoichiro but we already have a Manslayer we all love, *that we do.*
There can be only one battousai
Actually there were four big ones. Kenshin Himura was based on Kawakami Gensai. This old man was based on all four of them.
Technically there were Four Hitokiri of the Bakematsu.
Kenshin was modeled after Kawakami Gensai.
This old man is modeled after Okada Izu.
You'd think they learn by now: never mess with the old guys!
I love it how each time the shinsengumi is mentioned i immediately think of gintama
Haha Edo is the main setting for Gintama, so it's expected! The Shinsengumi in general always make me think of Gintama as well, love the anime.

kinda awesome that theres so many stories about this shinsengumi group in other anime
The Japanese love there history, culture and mythology so they love to put that stuff in there media unlike most western countrys nowadays.
Here its almost only American things like that you see now.
The shinsengumi was a real group from the past.
there is no shinsengumi though

I need more of Alucard VA
This gave me some serious Rurouni Kenshin flashbacks and I was honestly half expecting Kenshin or Saito to make a cameo
They should have never shone the light of that blade into Yuichiro's eyes. For him, it shines like daylight

1:59 he means hijikata toshiro from Gintama
I want to make sure if you were either don’t realize that Hijikata Toshirou comes from the actual Vice Commander of the Shinsengumi irl named Hijikata Toshizou or you are making a joke. I’m not saying your dumb or anything it’s just I want to clarify your statement
