I knew you were going to do that. Rounding off that lock pin hex is an absolute nightmare. It’s too easy to to heat the carrier with your bernzomatic torch and soften that loctite red. Doesn’t take that much heat either. It took me only one time and I learned real quick. Warm that loctite and that bolt will spin right out!
1. Better to remove pin bolt 8mm with a socket and swivel joint to a ratchet. Bolt needs to be fully removed. 2. The pin can be removed with a small 1/8in flat head screw driver inserted into the hole where the 8mm hole was. So you don't need a magnet at all.
The very first thing that you did wrong was not to heat the carrier up in order to loosen the 8 mm pin Bolt. The last thing you want to do is break that puppy off. When you heat it up it is almost loose. It will have lock tight on it if it has been placed in their properly. You have to heat the lock tight up in order to loosen the bolt
@@jesse.vr6 you only have to heat it up mildly to break it loose because it has thread locker in it. You're not heating the entire differential up with a acetylene torch, all you need is the little 1 lb propane torch and that is all that is required
I just spent 30 min trying to remove the c clip. Its still binding up despite pushing the axle in, rotating the differential and ripping out the little rubber ring. I've used vaous picks and no luck. Any ideas? Ty
@@TestDontguess I managed to get them out by tapping on them with a hammer and flat screw driver. I like your screw idea but I didn't see it in time. One thing that might have been helpful and gave me some more slack is removing the speed sensors! I forgot about them! . Thanks.
Instead of hitting the wrench with your hammer, lock the box end of another wrench to the open end of the wrench you're trying to turn. Instant extension, easier to break loose. You're welcome.
I hate the strong smell old gear oil when you remove the diff cover. It usually takes a few hours to clear out the stink from the garage... If it even clears out! lol
I rarely comment... But thank you for this video. I could not find anyone else showing this. Very helpful!

thank you! Makes swapping my axles out that much easier!
Thank you for the video
Beautiful
2006 Ford Ranger here
Was confused when the diff cover came off
Love you
Quick video with no BS. Thank you
Great, concise video! Thanks for posting!
Straight forward and to the point.
That bolt holding in the pin looked super tight
When putting the C-clip back in, does it matter if you have the rounded edge facing outboard or inboard?
Nicely done on man .👍👍👍
You may have just saved my ass by saying that little tid bit at the end. Thank you!!
Thanks! I'm just about to pop those badboys out so this shows how easy it is. I appreciate it.

You are a lifesaver! Thanks so much!
My axles won’t push in far enough for the c clips to pass the s spring
Hey there! I've got the same problem right now. My passenger side doesnt go in far enough. Driver side is fine. What did you do to get them out?
When pulling the clip pull that s shape sheet metal humdinger that’s the c clip retainer
Nice job on explaining it.
Nice job Jerry.....
Great video!
Good video thanks!

Thanks for sharing that
how do you heat it without setting the oil on fire?

Use 2 small screwdrivers and push the clip out and use a magnet to fish it out
