The main one that was missed is Only Fools and Horses, voted Britain's best loved sitcom. There's no way it could ever be popular in the US because no one would understand it.
It was my understanding that Red Dwarf only recently became "big" (if anyone can really call it that) and primarily because it in fact DID "jump the pond" Honestly Star Trek was more famous (pre-JJ Abrams) and it still pigeon-holed as a "Nerd" program. I myself heard great things about Red Dwarf. It seems to be on most of my friends' top 3 lists. So I sat down to watch five episodes. ...I was done after the first two minutes, but I sat through and grit my teeth through the other four episodes. Frankly, it reminded me of that Big Bang Theory rip-off that was aired in Europe. Not saying it itself is a rip-off of anything, mind you. I'm saying that I felt it wasn't funny, had a horrible laugh track, and the characters were simply ridiculous. I found Jar Jar Binks far more amusing and I think he's one of the worst characters ever conceived. I may not see the appeal of the show, but I admit that it must have something as so many people seem to fap over it like it's as good as Breaking Bad or (more appropriately) Doctor Who. I may personally think it's trash, but I recommend people see it and make up their own minds.
I would say it should be excluded from the list as it's quite popular in the US - to the point where they tried to make a US version (with Bobby Llew still playing Kryten)...
beebware Two different pilots - Terry Farrell and Jane Leeves. The US Lister was terrible. That's the problem when they "Americanize" stuff. Most lose their magic. Notable exception - The Office. I think we've shown that Americans will gladly watch UK shows are they are originally.
I absolutely LOVE this show. Best British show EVER! I wish our public television station woud buy all of the episodes of Only Fools and Horses and show them I had rent them from Netflix to be able to see all Of them. Dead canary, when the coach explodes, the sex dolls inflating out of nowhere, Batman & Robin, Tony Angelino, Friday the 14th, Del hang gliding, Rodney hiding from the police, Denzil seeing Del on the high seas, Rodney and Del hitting on the two transvestites..That's off the top of my head without going to the well of infinite returns that are Grandad and Trigger. If you don't like the show then fair enough, not everything in the world has to be liked by everyone else but I would say that the overwhelming majority of people that have watched the show would rightly call it a comedy classic. I defy anyone to watch episodes like Jolly Boys Outing, Tea for Three or Danger UXD without laughing. But, each to their own.

British shows i know/watch: comedies (i love all of these, especially the 1st one) ~ Russel howard good news, the inbetweeners, IT crowd, Mock the week, QI, 8 out of ten cats, Mr bean (not the cartoons, the actual shows) and his movies, would i lie to you? Gameshows ~ the cube, countdown, weakest link, who wants to be a millionaire, deal or no deal? family fortunes (i really like this one, especially the latest ones), catch phrase, have i got news for you (haven't watched yet), golden balls, the chase, mastermind, pointless Reality: ~ Children in need, the apprentice, soap opras: Corination street, eastenders, emmerdale, casualty, hollyoaks, brookside, crossroads, family affairs, night and day a show you would watch on a boring sturday ~ 60 minute makeover, gogglebox, antiques road show BBC: Tracy beaker, The sarah jane adventures (SPOILER ALERT: The doctor does actually come in an episode), don't loose your head, ooglies enertainment: i'm a celebrity get me out of here, Britain's got talent, x factor, Britans got talent, master chef, the great british bake off, strictly comes dancing, dancing on ice. bigb brother, gordie shore, made in chelsea, comic relief.
QI, Weakest Link, The Graham Norton Show, Mock the Week, Would I Lie to You, 8 out of 10 Cats, Pointless, Yes, Prime Minister and many more. I don't think any of them have made it "across the Pond", at least not to the east of it. :P
+Michael Ståhl Not true. I'm a fan of all of them, and I'm as far west in our good 'ole US of A as one can go ;). In fact, I'm a fan of so many British series/mini-series/films, including some quite obscure ones--which leads me to suspect that some/many Brits my age, aren't even aware of the existence of some of my absolute favorites...
+Mish McEntire that is probably because you are not in the younger generation. She is an alter ego youtube character of American woman Coleen Ballinger
***** Scrapheap Challenge was shown a lot in America, only under the name of Junkyard Wars. It was on a daily loop on one of those Discovery type channels. They even had an American version called Junkyard Wars, which not only featured a number of the regular UK competitors but was also presented for a short time by one of the presenters of Scrapheap Challenge.
Koko Pants The Young Ones had been shown stateside at some point. A web series by an American who watches a lot of British shows referred to Rik Myal as the guy from Young Ones reviewing a film he appeared in. I checked and actually they unsuccessfully tried to remake Only Fools and Horses a few years ago but from what I read it was never showed it in the states not even on BBC America. And BBC made or not they show a lot of major British shows in the states. Jeremy Kyle did have a short lived US version of his show, makes sense seeing it's practically our Jerry Springer, whether they still or ever got the UK version I'm not sure.
__The Young Ones__ - a British sitcom, broadcast in the United Kingdom from 1982 to 1984 in two six-part series. Shown on BBC2, it featured anarchic, offbeat humour which helped bring alternative comedy to television in the 1980s and made household names of its writers and performers. In 1985, it was shown on MTV, one of the first non-music television shows on the fledgling channel. In a 2004 poll, it ranked at number 31 in the BBC's list of Britain's Best Sitcoms. When I was living in England from 1982 through 1984 (coincidentally the same time span of this show), it was one of the shows I would watch religiously.
Blue Peter, Coronation ST., Bake off, Top of the pops, HIGNFY, Miranda, Fawlty Towers, East Enders and Graham Norton are some of the stuff I got used to watch, besides DW of course. And Im brazilian, but I have adopted England in 1993. Without even leaving home. God bless media sharing.
I really like the series of Anglophenia, thank you for making them. I can tell the Netherlands are just across the Pond from Brittain, because I know all but one of the programs. Mind you I did watch a lot of BBC. As a child I really liked the Really Wild Show. Siobhan Thompson, please keep making these lovely videos and presenting them. I love your humour.
Father Ted used to be shown on my PBS station. Dallas' PBS station shows more British TV shows than the BBC they say. Dad's Army and Time Team have also been shown on Dallas' PBS station. There was also an American version of "The Great British Bakeoff" with the same British chef/baker as a judge, the guy with the beard. That is, if anyone reading this cares to know. Sometimes I am starting to wonder how well Anglophenia tries to research before these videos.
Father Ted was on Netflix. Did they take it off? I watched Monarch of the Glen, Father Ted, Vicar of Dibley and several others on Netflix within the past year or two.
I watched them in the US, but Netflix often cycles titles in and out, so I guess they just aren't around for US subscribers any longer. I'm sure they'll be back at some point. Good shows, every one.
The actual Top Shows in Britain 1:NEWS 2:WEATHER 3:only fools and horses 4: east Enders 5:corrie 6:Good morning Britain 7:the one show 8:bake off 9:x factor 10:FOOTY
Honestly, I don't know how you didn't include TNETENNBA Challenge where contestants complement each other's TENETENNBAs. Can't wait for the 16th season!
Auf Wiedersehen, Pet, Bread, One Foot in the Grave, Father Ted, Keeping Up Appearances, Rab C Nesbitt, Boys from the Black Stuff, Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em, Are You Being Served, Last of the Summer Wine, Open All Hours, The Brittas Empire, Till Death Us Do Part, In Sickness and in Health, Hi-De-Hi, and of course, Allo Allo!! Edited to add: Spitting Image!
Add to that list: As Time Goes By (with Dame Judith Dench), Goode Neighbours (with Felicity Kendall and Richard Briar; Felicity was cuter), Vicar of Dibley (Dawn French), Chef (French's ex- Lenny Henry), "Yes, Minister", and "Yes, Prime Minister" (both providing keen insight into how modern democracies really work). And how could Ms Thompson forget Black Adder? Yes, you mentioned it briefly when discussing Sir Tony. The final episode, final scene of Black Adder Goes Forth is a hallmark in how one properly ends a series, and is studied in film schools as well.
As the daughter of a Brit living in Australia, I'm ever so pleased to know all but one of these shows. TOTP, Time Team and Dad's Army were particular staples of our childhood viewing, as were Vicar of Dibley, Monarch of The Glen, Keeping Up Appearances, To The Manor Born, The Bill, My Family and Scrapheap Challenge.
Also she sang the words of the last line to the tune of the second line... So if she meant to start at the beginning it should have been 'if you think we're on the run' and if she was going for the last two lines, the tune should have gone higher...
Did you notice they don't allow us to watch QI anymore? That makes me beyond sad. At least we still get NMTB and 8 Out of 10 Cats. I wish Would I Lie To You would come back as well.
They have new 8 Out of 10 Cats does countdown, have you seen them? Totally awesome. I've seen all the WILTY available. Did you see Was It Something I Said? It's another panel show with David Mitchell as the MC, very good. Doubt it'll come back, I wish it would.
Zbleubleu OKeyDokey I love just about anything with David Mitchell. I very much enjoyed Was It Something I Said. I saw the new 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown episodes as well. The new season of Nevermind the Buzzcocks with Rhod Gilbert just started, and he's doing a pretty good job, but I think I'll miss the guest judges.
I'm from Michigan and visited a girl in Newcastle , only fools and horses was one of my favorites..She has them all on DVD and we watched them all the time ....loved it
The Young Ones, about a bunch of youths living together in a student flat in the 80's. It's really surreal, really random and hilariously funny (It's also stars Rik Mayall, you know, Drop Dead Fred...)
Americans know all about Red Dwarf--it played on PBS for years. The Young One got very popular on MTV. I wonder if they are showing shows we wouldn't know in the US
The Young Ones is bloody brilliant! Anyone who likes it should also check out the TV films made by The Comic Strip, a group consisting of many of Britain's alternative comedians from the 80s.
Baxter It would only be a valid joke if there was some truth in it. The obvious (and actually funny) joke to make would have been that Paul Hollywood is terrifying. Telling Americans that Marry Berry is considered terrifying is just misleading and stupid.
Baxter I didn't think it was intended as an insult either, I just thought it was stupid to tell an American audience something that isn't true and make a joke about one of the judges being terrifying when the one mentioned was the wrong one.
If Tony Robinson presented Time Team as Baldrick, then it would look something like this: Phil Harding is in the trench and says something bucolic and unintelligible in a Wiltshire accent about not being able to find a wall, then Tony says, "I 'ave a cunnin' plan., m'lord."
By watching your videos and reading comments I have realized how much you guys and New Zealand which is where I live, have in common. Like we have Dads Army here which was pretty popular when it came out and I think most of that generation knows it, we have the great British bake off regularly air on our foods Chanel and most people here know of coronation st. My two favourite British tv programs are the vicar of Dibley and my family
on you tube, i've recently discovered the "back in time for" shows. very educational, and funny. "back in time for dinner", "back in time for Christmas", and "back in time for the weekend ". i love them.
+Pebiol Duvero The point was to mention programs that never got broadcast in the U.S. "Fawlty Towers" was _very_ popular here, along with "Monty Python," "Blackadder," "Masterpiece Theatre," and such things as "Keeping up Appearances," "To the Manor Born," "Butterflies," and "Good Neighbors" (it's been a while, don't hit me if I remember the names wrong, lol).
The most famous quote from Snooker was by Ted Lowe (in the early 70s, I think): "and for those of you who are watching in black and white, the pink is next to the green.".
Snooker isn't actually boring to watch if you learn the rules and follow what is going on. It's pretty easy to understand. Couldn't say the same for golf though lol.
There are so many great ones, Embarrassing Bodies, Pointless, The Chase (can you tell I like quiz shows?) then there's stuff like Mock the Week and Russell Howard's Good News, and trashy stuff like Don't Tell the Bride, Barely Legal Drivers and Sun, Sex and Suspicious Parents. (there's also things like towie and made in chelsea that i hope americans never see. geordie shore is bearable.)
Miranda, Strictly Come Dancing, only fools and horses, vicar of dibley, Mrs browns boys, Graham Norton, This Morning, Ab Fab... just a few of the many great programmes!
MOTD can't exactly go over to America if they can't relate to the football teams. it'd be as pointless as a Brit watching the Super Bowl. I say unless it's the World Cup, football is supposed to stay in it's own countries.
Rowan Bendle I think you underestimate other humans ability to relate to different cultures. Also the world isn't comprised of the US and Uk, EPL is broadcast all over the world, accompanied with programs similar to MOTD.
ITV's Heartbeat, man I watch every episode they rerun in Norway. It just brings back so many memories, I still cry when I think about PC Crane. I was 11 or 12 the first time I watched that episode
My favorite British show is Sherlock! It's Sherlock Holmes and Doctor John Watson set in modern day London. But the team only makes ** THREE ** episodes a year! Surely they could make a few more episodes in an entire year!
But to be fair, they are 1:30 long and REDICULOUSLY well edited. If you cut it into 30 minute sections (an average programme run time) you get 9 episodes worth
+Anthony Starfield Many other great British shows are like that. Luther was the one that frustrated me the most in this way. I suppose they don't dedicate as much money to TV programing production. But they do all have health care... tough call on which is more important ;)
I LOVE Dad's Army!!! Also The Great British Bake Off is pretty much the best show ever!!! Expect for now it won't be the same anymore.......... *cries*
I am so glad I didn't just imagine Blue Peter! Oh my goodness gracious! When we moved to the U.S. nobody knew what I was talking about and I thought I had just imagined the whole show until recently I found an old stuffy of the Blue Peter bear. It made me irrationally happy.
It's quite well known in the US among sci fi fans, only slightly less popular than Doctor Who. Watching the new Star Wars I couldn't help but laugh at the evil badguy who gives a speech who looks exactly like Rimmer :)
I accidentally discovered Time Team on RUclips and I was immediately hooked. I watched them for hours. They even came here to the Mid-West to dig. (I currently live here in Minnesota) So cool!!!! I especially l like the other show where they live for a year in a specific time period, ie Victorian Pharmacy. Love this channel!
"Thin Blue Line" Kind of reminded me of a British "Andy Griffith Show". Rowan Atkinson is fantastic, "Inspector Grimm" is probably my favorite character, especially when he mispronounces words or goes on a rant about something.
+tSp289 If you love Graham Linehan... Father Ted, Black Books, Big Train and The IT Crowd. Watch Big Train ;) The cast of Spaced act out Graham Linehan's imagination. Greatest sketch show in history. Type 'Big Train' in RUclips. xD
+Lilly Allen You're kind of right - it's: 'Who do you think you're kidding Mr Hitler If you think we're on the run? We are the boys who will stop your little game We are the boys who will make you think again So who do you think you're kidding Mr Hitler If you think old England's done.' Jesus, I really need to get out more...
+Alex Child Bake off came to the U.S. about 2 years ago. It's on PBS. Guess what; a few weeks ago was "The Great American Christmas Bake Off" with Mary Barry.
I used to watch My Family on YTV (Canada). Coronation Street is a big deal here and airs on CBC in Canada. People freak out when it gets preempted. I watch it on occasion since it airs after work, re-airs again at 11:30pm, and re-airs the entire week's episode on Sunday mornings.
Hmmm, UK shows that would not travel well, you say? 1) QI ... would never work over here because we don't have our own Stephen Fry - or Alan Davies, or David Mitchell, or Ross Noble, or Jo Brand, or .... 2) WILTY ... might translate into Amurricun. Could we borrow Rob Brydon, please? 3) Buzzcocks ... without Noel Fielding? 4) any show with David Mitchell. Or Victoria Coren M. You have them, we don't. Not even close. Ellen? Not bloody likely. 5) 'Allo 'Allo ... not in these politically correct days AND the big one TopGear ... we tried it, with presenters who had all the charisma of a bog roll. It ain't TG without Capt Slow, the Hamster, and the Orangutang My 2 cents (US)
You can borrow all those "comedians" as none of them are funny. There's only around 5 panel shows worth watching, and the rest are shit. A lot of the funniest sitcoms don't even feature comedians.
What do you mean we don't have summers in the UK? It's the best day of the year!
😂
The UK has three months of winter followed by nine months of bad weather.
Yes, but you can usually count those "best days" on the fingers of one hand! ;)
+Nigel Gentry The idea is that he said "Best day" not "best days" XD
Because Summers are rare and don't last very long, since most times it's either cloudy or raining, you'd be lucky to get a month's worth of good sunshine with no rain or cloudy days.
Wait... I'm British why am i watching this?
Same on my end
Me too...I don't know why.
Same p, do we like others opinions?
lewis conroy I guess it's interesting seeing what people from other countries don't know about us.
I agree, +Dominic Daniels!
MARY BERRY IS THE SWEETEST THING EVER SHE'S LIKE YOUR GRANDMA THAT FORCES YOU TO EAT SWEETS AND BAKES YOU CAKES ALL THE TIME LIKE HOW IS SHE TERRIFYING
These "triggered" jokes are getting lame. Jesus...
Moony Moon like that lady from Father Ted - another missed entry!
Tio Bridge How could you not mention Mrs Doyle's name, she was a highlight of the show, so was father Jack
John Barber I'm sorry - at the time her name slipped by me!
I love Mary berry
We also have a whole load of shows about valuing antiques. Flog It, Antiques Roadshow, Bargain Hunt, Antiques Roadtrip, Cash in the Attic, Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is and all the 'special finds', 'vintage' and 'best of' spin-offs. And many of them seem to have Tim Wonnacott in them.
Roadshow and cash in the attic has made it over to the US if you count cable.
***** Honestly, I like some of them. They have some cool items, sometimes. But I don't like Tim Wonnacott.
Tim Wonnacott has been fired, for bullying.
***** Really? I need to google that. I need to know all of the gossip.
DeviliciousNails
They say he resigned after "bullying allegations". I was surprised he's only 63. Here's the link anyway.

+Georgia Batchelor people love miranda...
Georgia Batchelor I love Miranda ❤️
IKR
Georgia Batchelor the show were my mum thought I got my attitude from

Omg! I used to love Horrible Histories. I knew all the songs and everything!
The pilgrim ep when They sing to the New York song thing anytime I here the original song I think of HH
I'm an American who loves Horrible Histories (I've memorized the Kings and Queens and Charles II song)! It's available here via Amazon and Hulu.
YESYESYESYES! it was always on cbbc !!
My history teacher used that to teach the class about WW1😂
The main one that was missed is Only Fools and Horses, voted Britain's best loved sitcom. There's no way it could ever be popular in the US because no one would understand it.
Good. It's a great show.
Absoloutly loved that show😂😂
+Roshan Payapulli That's come to the U.S. It is on PBS.
+Matt Warwick There's a U.S. Version of that show.
Matt Warwick Yes, unfortunately.
I LOVE "Are You Being Served?" and "Keeping Up Appearances". "The IT Crowd" isn't too bad either!
I wish I could watch Are You Being Served? again. Never fails to make me laugh.
AYBS is on RUclips. Every single episode, and the spin-off, "Grace and Favour", every single episode. Enjoy!
I like to pretend the inbetweeners never made it over because the re-make is just painful.
jessie nim Oh isn't it just!
The American version was partly filmed at my high school
it was bloody awful-
How could you forget about Red Dwarf?! One of the best BBC series ever, and it's ALWAYS on Dave (TV Channel) XD
Majin Piccolo Red Dwarf made it over to the USA and this was about British TV shows that aren't in the USA. Tat is why it is not one here.
It was my understanding that Red Dwarf only recently became "big" (if anyone can really call it that) and primarily because it in fact DID "jump the pond" Honestly Star Trek was more famous (pre-JJ Abrams) and it still pigeon-holed as a "Nerd" program.

Yup
+Lapis Lover I watched the one season on Netflix. It was alright.
+ConfettiChi series 4 is the best
squeezle 31121999 It's not on Netflix, so I won't watch it. It's fun, but not something that I'll go out of my way to watch it.
Only Fools and Horses. One of the greatest sitcoms of all time and totally impossible to remake outside of the UK.
I absolutely LOVE this show. Best British show EVER! I wish our public television station woud buy all of the episodes of Only Fools and Horses and show them I had rent them from Netflix to be able to see all Of them. The episode"The Groovy Gang" was hysterical. Funny, funny, funny! IAlso love to watch Doc Martin!
Dion Ware there are like 4 funny scenes in that entire show.
JD1010101110 If you truly believe that then I lament your taste in comedy. The show has countless fantastic moments and episodes.
Dion Ware

Okay. I just wanted to make British friends
My three top British TV shows currently on are QI, 8 out if 10 Cats and Mock the Week. I am very grateful that they are posted on youtube,

I fucking LOVE Miranda.
JD1010101110 I watch other shows to but I've only shown the most popular ones!
Thought I was the only one who watched "not going out" thank Heavens I'm not 😂😂
***** 😭
I was in the UK last week and saw Spring Watch - so crazy watching them update on the birth of birds and their growth. It was very unusual.
By the way - I love this channel. Wish it would come back with new content. Such an awesome RUclips channel.
Black Books! We still quote Bernard, Manny and Fran, one of the best ensembles every created. And who can forget cameos like Simon Pegg's terrifying bookstore manager?
Blue Peter's Italian 'sunken garden' was vandalized back in the 1983. The pinnacle of my childhood memories.
I really wish panel shows would jump cross the pond. Love me some QI, 8 out of 10 Cats, would I lie to you, have I got news for you...
Only one of them is good, and that's 8 Out of 10 Cats.
8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown is even better.
Now Celebrity Juice is what you call funny, although the games were better in the earlier series'.
Wait what about Countdown, Mastermind, Deal or no Deal, Grand Designs (my favourite)
We get those in Australia so...
Kaitlyn Watts do you? damn, i honestly thought they were exclusive to the UK. Do you get it with like Australian presenters instead or are the same British episodes aired.
A. Mulla We get it both with brittish presenters and Australian.
So basically we get the brittish version of the show, but the Australian version is on prime time (like 8:00pm).
A. Mulla. I like tipping point
aaminah mulla got to love grand designs them times you were bored late night in the summer switched on the the to
I live out of the UK right now, like pretty far away from there, and I'm completely using these videos to channel my homesickness.
I recently found this channel and love it. I had no idea I was obsessed with British culture. I recently watched every season of the British show SHAMELESS. which was much better than the American version. Anyway I love the vids and can't wait to power watch through all of them. keep it up.
With Most of the shows which have US versions
There's a very good chance the original British one is better

soap opras: Corination street, eastenders, emmerdale, casualty, hollyoaks, brookside, crossroads, family affairs, night and day
a show you would watch on a boring sturday ~ 60 minute makeover, gogglebox, antiques road show
BBC: Tracy beaker, The sarah jane adventures (SPOILER ALERT: The doctor does actually come in an episode), don't loose your head, ooglies
enertainment: i'm a celebrity get me out of here, Britain's got talent, x factor, Britans got talent, master chef, the great british bake off, strictly comes dancing, dancing on ice. bigb brother, gordie shore, made in chelsea, comic relief.
Basically the same shows I like
+Mary JieZoe the story of my life you just said right there haha
Torchwood?
+Mary JieZoe "hollyoaks"? lol!
8 out of 10 cats!!!!!
QI, Weakest Link, The Graham Norton Show, Mock the Week, Would I Lie to You, 8 out of 10 Cats, Pointless, Yes, Prime Minister and many more. I don't think any of them have made it "across the Pond", at least not to the east of it. :P
pointless
+Michael Ståhl Weakest Link, Graham Norton(love!) & Yes, prime Minister all in the U.S.
Russel Howards Good News
+Michael Ståhl Not true. I'm a fan of all of them, and I'm as far west in our good 'ole US of A as one can go ;). In fact, I'm a fan of so many British series/mini-series/films, including some quite obscure ones--which leads me to suspect that some/many Brits my age, aren't even aware of the existence of some of my absolute favorites...
+MissJessyeNorman That's why I said to the east of it, the US is west while Scandinavia, where I live, is east of it. ;)
Outnumbered
+
Mellow Panda yes!!!!!
yesssss
I loved outnumbered :)
Omg yesss
QI, mock the week, countdown, 8 out of 10 cats, would i lie to you. Where are all those amazing shows?!
from Texas. LOVE the great British baking show! Netflix needs to add more seasons
Miranda. How can you not mention Miranda! 😂
americans always think i'm talking about miranda sings when I mention miranda...so sad
I am, what I call, "American" and I have no idea what Miranda Sings is. Such Fun! ;)
I am a British teen and I love her so much. Have the complete box set #suchfun also Outnumbered
+Mish McEntire that is probably because you are not in the younger generation. She is an alter ego youtube character of American woman Coleen Ballinger
I know my favourite tv show😂
Only fools and Horses? Miranda? Hustle? Death in Paradise?
Agreed. I love hustle and only fools and horses.
Flash Baggins Death in Paradise is aired in the US on PBS :)
Oh cool :D
***** Oh Yeah, I LOVED that show. I forgot to mention it because I haven't seen it on TV anywhere whatsoever :( . Its still awesome though
Everyone misses the best programmes like "Red Dwarf" and "The New Statesman" why?
Martin White never heard of them
Jadey
They are on RUclips, have a quick look. The accents might be a problem though.
Martin White top gear
If someone is looking to watch British TV the show most recommended is Dr. Who and then probably Red Dwarf so it gets plenty of love. JS
Red dwarf is brill and still going on on a channel called dave
Jeremy Kyle?Only fools and horses?Young ones?
Jeremy Kyle is an embarrassment
I definitely though jeremy kyle should have been on the list. it totally shatters the illusion of brits as polite and genteel
__The Young Ones__ - a British sitcom, broadcast in the United Kingdom from
1982 to 1984 in two six-part series. Shown on BBC2, it featured
anarchic, offbeat humour which helped bring alternative comedy to
television in the 1980s and made household names of its writers and
performers. In 1985, it was shown on MTV, one of the first non-music
television shows on the fledgling channel. In a 2004 poll, it ranked at
number 31 in the BBC's list of Britain's Best Sitcoms.
When I was living in England from 1982 through 1984 (coincidentally the same time span of this show), it was one of the shows I would watch religiously.
Actually Jeremy Kyle does Jeremy Kyle USA
How could you leave out Only Fools and Horses.
Top Gear.
With Jeremy Clarkson, James May, Richard Hammond, and THE STIG.
yeAAAA
The US has played that for years. I love it.
God bless media sharing.
match of the day
room 101 , strictly come dancing
Mrs's browns boys
only fools and horses
rere 025 Is Irish
I loved watching "Are you being served?" and "As time goes by"
The story of Tracy beaker
viktorjia Eira amen
+Bryan Cranston XD
YASS
YASSSSSSSS
YASSSS
I really like the series of Anglophenia, thank you for making them. I can tell the Netherlands are just across the Pond from Brittain, because I know all but one of the programs. Mind you I did watch a lot of BBC. As a child I really liked the Really Wild Show.
Siobhan Thompson, please keep making these lovely videos and presenting them. I love your humour.
Boy, I wish we could watch QI in the States. I adore that show. I also wish we could watch Father Ted here. Come on, Netflix!!!
Hulu has Father Ted and QI....Love 'em!
Father Ted was on Netflix. Did they take it off? I watched Monarch of the Glen, Father Ted, Vicar of Dibley and several others on Netflix within the past year or two.
NekoMouser
Shows available on Netflix in the UK are not available in the US, and vice versa. Very frustrating, and makes no sense.
I watched them in the US, but Netflix often cycles titles in and out, so I guess they just aren't around for US subscribers any longer. I'm sure they'll be back at some point. Good shows, every one.
The actual Top Shows in Britain

What about countdown
Yesss GMB xD
Honestly, I don't know how you didn't include TNETENNBA Challenge where contestants complement each other's TENETENNBAs. Can't wait for the 16th season!
Haha, both The IT Crowd and Countdown should be on here 😂😂
quizzlie you have quite a nice TNETENNBA, sir or madame!
mrthenewguy87
*blushes*
quizzlie i have no idea what show you are on about.
Cheezsoup that is hilarious 😂 thank you for the link. How did I miss that gem.
I'm from the USA and my family loves the great British bake off.
+MrCow Playz Yay! :)
+Kirsty Hulme :D
Hi! Could you tell me some of the British tv shows that are shown in the US? Thanks
+SuNRizE love it!
but I'm shocked Siobhan didn't mention how handsome Paul Hollywood is.
QI~~~~
That *almost* made the cut. Panel shows are their own unique beast--we may do a follow-up episode down the line.
Anglophenia I love panel shows 8 out of 10 cats especially the countdown specials
Dale McClung
Until Joe Wilkinson turns up.
Bloody brilliant show, but us poor Americans can only get it via RUclips.
My sister hates it but she is almost mad.
I wish BBC America would run some good shows instead of Star Trek TNG and Top Gear reruns.
I agree. There is too much America and not enough BBC on BBC America.
BBC America? Did you know that BBC stands for British Broadcasting Co-operation?
Jennifer Collier It does. But there is a cable channel called BBC America, which has surprisingly few British shows on it.
They do show Sherlock and the Graham Norton Show but I agree, it should be NOTHING but British shows
It is very annoying.
Many of these have been and continue to be aired in the States on public television
I've seen many episodes of Black Adder on TV here in the States.
Jade Ku, Yes I saw these shows as child in the States, and looked for them and living in London. Father Ted rules!😁
Yes and this idiot picked stuff even us Brits don't watch for most of the video
C'mon everyone has at least watched one episode of The Dumping/Tracy Beaker ??
and tracy beaker returns 😂
I haven't
QI!!!! my (American) mom loves it!! One of the few shows she asks to watch back to back when my parents come to visit!
Mary Berry is not terrifying, she's awesome! 😂
You missed 'Allo 'Allo! Even though it's shown in more than 80 countries, it's still damn underrated…
"If you think old England's done", not gone.
Also she sang the words of the last line to the tune of the second line... So if she meant to start at the beginning it should have been 'if you think we're on the run' and if she was going for the last two lines, the tune should have gone higher...
Hahaha good point and well spotted!
danielrichardbond Bless you both, I got really irritated at that!
Without RUclips, I would have never found QI, or Never Mind the Buzzcocks, or 8 Out of 10 Cats. I wish these aired on BBC America.
Did you notice they don't allow us to watch QI anymore? That makes me beyond sad. At least we still get NMTB and 8 Out of 10 Cats. I wish Would I Lie To You would come back as well.
I can find certain series of QI that are still available, mostly the older ones. I miss WILTY as well. And 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown.
They have new 8 Out of 10 Cats does countdown, have you seen them? Totally awesome. I've seen all the WILTY available. Did you see Was It Something I Said? It's another panel show with David Mitchell as the MC, very good. Doubt it'll come back, I wish it would.
You need to watch Shooting Stars, brilliantly bizarre quiz show that had Matt Lucas on it
Zbleubleu OKeyDokey I love just about anything with David Mitchell.
I'd like to see"Only Fools and Horses" make the journey across the pond.
Yes!!! I've watched it all on RUclips. It's so so,funny!
OMG I love that show it's hilarious thats where I learned the word plonker
I recall reading it was shown on PBS, but they had to do a video explaining what certain words meant
Tilda Adade Disappointed they didn't mention Red Dwarf too!
Mandi Roberts They didn't mention Red Dwarf because PBS aired it in the states for a while, so it doesn't quality
Don't know about The Young Ones, my favourite programmes were Yes (Prime) Minister, Blackadder Goes Forth, and Red Dwarf.
I don't know why I'm watching all of your videos. I know all this already because I'm British😂
Blackadder. Young Ones. Both were available in the US in the 80s. But I found Graham Norton here. Love!!
Blackadder was fantastic.
How is Mary Berry 'terrifying'? She is a posh older lady.
And she's looking quite good/healthy for her age tbh
Chocolate Milk party She really is, and she's always well turned out, too. She's about as terrifying as one of her cakes!
+NotMostGirls It's a joke. And she is a formidable, strong woman.
Andrew only tools and horses
By watching your videos and reading comments I have realized how much you guys and New Zealand which is where I live, have in common. Like we have Dads Army here which was pretty popular when it came out and I think most of that generation knows it, we have the great British bake off regularly air on our foods Chanel and most people here know of coronation st. My two favourite British tv programs are the vicar of Dibley and my family
if Mary Berry is terrifying then what about Paul Hollywood?!
How could you not mention countdown!
Or 8 out of 10 cats version
***** Maybe because it is originally a French program?
***** The programme that launched the UK's fourth terrestrial channel, aptly named Channel 4, on 2nd November 1982.
on you tube, i've recently discovered the "back in time for" shows. very educational, and funny. "back in time for dinner", "back in time for Christmas", and "back in time for the weekend ". i love them.
Now when you watch top of the pops you realise the teenage audience was just trying to avoid being molested by one of the presenters.
Now then, now then, guys and gals, you may be right!
Fawlty Towers? No? Just me? Ok...
+Pebiol Duvero nope, just all of us. Most Americans' introduction to John Cleese.
+Pebiol Duvero That's come to the U.S. PBS. (Public Broadcasting Station)
+Pebiol Duvero So long as you don't mention the war.
+BigBen Hebdomadarius Good Neighbours? Do you mean The Good Life?
The most famous quote from Snooker was by Ted Lowe (in the early 70s, I think): "and for those of you who are watching in black and white, the pink is next to the green.".
Snooker isn't actually boring to watch if you learn the rules and follow what is going on. It's pretty easy to understand. Couldn't say the same for golf though lol.
Indoor Golf
and it's not a version of pool...
*****
I know.
that wasn't @ you specifically, the presenter said it was and we both corrected her misinformation 👍
*****
Ah right okay haha.
For Americans reading this comment towie is The Only Way Is Essex
KevServo oh.
how the fuckin ell is georgdie shore bearable
I just started getting into Good News. Hella funny!
Miranda, Strictly Come Dancing, only fools and horses, vicar of dibley, Mrs browns boys, Graham Norton, This Morning, Ab Fab... just a few of the many great programmes!
How could you not mention MOTD and Question time?
MOTD can't exactly go over to America if they can't relate to the football teams. it'd be as pointless as a Brit watching the Super Bowl. I say unless it's the World Cup, football is supposed to stay in it's own countries.
We've actually had MOTD in the US for a couple years now, along with live broadcasts of every Premier League match.
Rowan Bendle I think you underestimate other humans ability to relate to different cultures. Also the world isn't comprised of the US and Uk, EPL is broadcast all over the world, accompanied with programs similar to MOTD.
Yeah MOTD has been on for 50 years now in the uk
Banana Gaming isn't that the case with literally every single hibs fan? Basically Sellik fans?
University challenge....... The show where you feel like the most intelligent person in the world if you get 2+ answer correct!!
ITV's Heartbeat, man I watch every episode they rerun in Norway. It just brings back so many memories, I still cry when I think about PC Crane. I was 11 or 12 the first time I watched that episode
I love Coronation Street and The Great British Bake Off
My favorite British show is Sherlock!
But they do all have health care... tough call on which is more important ;)
so it's discount elementary
Anthony Starfield I despise it for it has been screwed too far from the original version.
I LOVE Dad's Army!!! Also The Great British Bake Off is pretty much the best show ever!!! Expect for now it won't be the same anymore.......... *cries*
I love Midsomer Murders. Definitely a place I'd like to visit, but wouldn't want to live there.
DO YOU LITERALLY HAVE A TV SHOW THAT'S ADULTS WATCHING GRASS GROW?? THAT WAS A JOKE, RIGHT?!
Sarah Clark no, but it's about as bloody boring as that.
Ahh the cheese channel programmes. That's classic BBC and Thames.
nope sorry
My grandmother loves it. She likes watching 'The Chase' too so what else can I say.
Sibby Rose MY GRANDMA LOVES THE CHASE
The "University Challenge" type show here in the U. S. was "The General Electric College Bowl"
Definately Allo Allo
Riker_trek yes!!!!
What? No mention of Red Dwarf? Really?
BLASPHEMY
kd1s We get that in the US. She was highlighting programs that are NOT aired in the US.
I am so glad I didn't just imagine Blue Peter! Oh my goodness gracious! When we moved to the U.S. nobody knew what I was talking about and I thought I had just imagined the whole show until recently I found an old stuffy of the Blue Peter bear. It made me irrationally happy.
BRITTISH BAKE OFF IS OVER NOW IM SO SAD
Ruby Smith nope it’s on Channel 4
Red dwarf? Did that ever make it to the states?
It's quite well known in the US among sci fi fans, only slightly less popular than Doctor Who. Watching the new Star Wars I couldn't help but laugh at the evil badguy who gives a speech who looks exactly like Rimmer :)
Red Dwarf used to play on YTV in Canada. I remember going to a karaoke bar in Regina and being amazed by how much the DJ looked like Lister.
It did on PBS (public access station) in the 90's never really caught on though.
Red Dwarf was great .
Lister : " Go to red alert ! " ....
Kryten : "Are you sure sir ? It DOES mean changing the bulb ."
+Crystal Ward
I love Regina because it rhymes with fun. ;)
My first (and still favorite) intro to British tv is Keeping Up Appearances with Hyacinth Bucket. Still cracks me up to this day!
Just another year failing to obtain a Blue Peter badge for me!
Where is faulty towers?
That's aired in the US.
oh
I accidentally discovered Time Team on RUclips and I was immediately hooked. I watched them for hours. They even came here to the Mid-West to dig. (I currently live here in Minnesota) So cool!!!! I especially l like the other show where they live for a year in a specific time period, ie Victorian Pharmacy. Love this channel!
surprised no mention of Countdown, or the fact that the prizes are ridiculous
Only Fools and Horses should have way been on top here xD
+naywils omg yes.
+naywils Absolutely!
"Thin Blue Line"
Kind of reminded me of a British "Andy Griffith Show". Rowan Atkinson is fantastic, "Inspector Grimm" is probably my favorite character, especially when he mispronounces words or goes on a rant about something.
Time Team sound really cool, I'm going to check it out.
It's boring
Really, really boring! My dad use to watch it 24/7
Thiago Monteiro Time Team is wonderful.
Thiago Monteiro i love that show :P always fascinated me as a kid :p
Thiago Monteiro I LOVE Time Team!! Amazing Sunday afternoon tv!!
Black Books, Never Mind the Buzzcocks.
I loved them so much
Black Books will always be my favorite show.
+tSp289 If you love Graham Linehan... Father Ted, Black Books, Big Train and The IT Crowd.
Watch Big Train ;) The cast of Spaced act out Graham Linehan's imagination. Greatest sketch show in history. Type 'Big Train' in RUclips. xD
Just a few You forgot,Only fools and horses, vicar of dibley, escape to the country, antiques roadshow, garden design
I'm pretty sure it's if you think not when you think old England's done
+Lilly Allen I'm pretty sure you're right.
+Lilly Allen You're right
+Lilly Allen You're kind of right - it's:
'Who do you think you're kidding Mr Hitler
If you think we're on the run?
We are the boys who will stop your little game
We are the boys who will make you think again
So who do you think you're kidding Mr Hitler
If you think old England's done.'
Jesus, I really need to get out more...
+Lilly Allen yeah! I thought id gotten it wrong
Bake Off, it is just to instense. No joke.
BAKE OFF FINAL TONIGHT :D
YEAH IT IS!!!
I don't know how anyone could find snooker boring...
Ella M neither could I!!!! OMG...😴
I like black adder, graham Norton show and still game
Keeping Up Appearances, Vicar of Dibley, Are You Being Served?, Fawlty Towers, Thermoman
5) 'Allo 'Allo ... not in these politically correct days
AND the big one
TopGear ... we tried it, with presenters who had all the charisma of a bog roll.
It ain't TG without Capt Slow, the Hamster, and the Orangutang
My 2 cents (US)
GA Cyclops I wish panel shows would die. Along with all those terrible 1960s sitcoms like Dad's Army and Allo Allo.
JD1010101110
to each his own ... IMHO, Little Britain & Father Ted are as funny as anal cysts :)
Wow, you're a dedicated Anglophile, by the sound of it. And nothing wrong with that...
GA Cyclops You can take Rob Brydon to the states and KEEP HIM!! Take James Sodding Cordon too!!
You can borrow all those "comedians" as none of them are funny.
There's only around 5 panel shows worth watching, and the rest are shit.
A lot of the funniest sitcoms don't even feature comedians.
