Yes America thinks it's better than everyone else, but America is not alone in that narcissistic mindset. Many countries that are well off as a whole believe themselves to be the pinnacle of success for their era.
Hmm. What you say is true, but that attitude from my experience is more severe in some areas than others. From all the countries I've been to America is one of the worst in this sense.
Slow turning nationalist is a bad think. During ww1 nationalist was a reason it happen. For self yes but drowing in it, Like being driven in it for fuel for violence. No Americans now are something like in history any other country.
@@GhPadua Yeah, nationalism and jingoism can easily create fascism if the economy is kicked in the balls. It's why europeans are horrified to learn we have flags just hanging in classrooms. Letting Bush do whatever he wanted cuz of 9/11 really screwed us up. LOL
nationalism is the reason humanity is going to eradicate itself. do you think Germany started full-nationalist? everything starts moderate. just obey the masters of the chunk of land you randomly use to live
In my opinion, the issue in America today is that, for various reasons since the 1950's, there is very little if any social and political cohesion. There is such polarization at this point that there is simply no unified vision of what it means to be american. It is as if american society has become tribalistic.
I, for one, believe our people's political views are like a book. Most of what people see is the two extremes-the cover, if you will. However, most of the people are closer to the center, like the pages where the plot or information lie.
Konig_von_Refien It started while looking at a penny in my grandmother's house while listening to a Fox newscaster rattle off statistics about immigration opinions of something and a healthy dose of AC/DC. Then I went from two sides of the same coin relation to don't judge a book by its cover, but they both work.
Random though there are exceptions, it seems like both sides can only serve to solidify the stereotype that the other side has given them. It’s funny yet saddening to see how rude everyone is to each other.
@@R-TrainExpress Funny how the US was born out of the anger at Britain making demands of the Settlers without their consent or representation, and the idea of being ruled by a foreign power...Then America begins grabbing land from the Natives, Spanish, Pacific Islanders, etc. Guess they forgot about Liberty and Freedom for all.
@Cameron I'm not defending Spain, but Spain don't champion themselves as the defenders of Justice, Liberty and Freedom. Rebellion against an imperial power is why the US exists - but they then went on to do exactly what the British did to them.
The large cities here aren't too good in my opinion to live in, as most large cities, but in the countryside area it's pretty nice looking, and the parks and everything
I think it's not simply an American thing but an Anglo thing. Both the English and their friends believe that they are unique somehow. English or British history is somehow cut off from the rest of Europe. Think Churchill's "We're in Europe but not of it" During the French revolution the British were disgusted by what they saw in France. Some argued, however, that what the French were doing was not that different from the English Civil War. One of the common responses was that England and Britain was different from rest of Europe. During Brexit British exceptionalism was pointed to as a reason why Britain should not be part of the European Union and both sides referred to leaving the EU as leaving Europe. I tend to think there is something to both British and American exceptionalism. On Britain side, the Magna Carta and the whole idea of limits on the Monarchy and the government's power is very unique. The same with America and their view of the constitution as a very important and foundational document. However, America has spread their influence throughout the world and spread their ideas while Britain has been more content with itself. When Norway looked for examples while crafting our constitution, America and France was looked at for inspiration, but not Britain, even though their ideal was what we in the end adopted with the introduction of parliamentarism.
The British did indeed have a huge empire that straddled the globe. The British constitution has been adopted by many of her former colonies, with variations applicable to each country. Canada for example has a half unwritten (British) and half written (Canadian) constitution. As a Canadian, I do find american exceptionalism to be pretty irritating. On the other hand, I also am irritated by the amount of smugness expressed against the US by my fellow Canadians. I find a lot to like about the 'States, but they clearly have some serious problems to deal with. Canada has its own issues too. I think we're fairing better these days, but there is no guarantee that will always be the case.
Luke Harvey I'm afraid I will just have to say I disagree with everything you've said. I can't really unpack it because that would mean writing a wall of text with references and all, which I don't have time for. I will however clearify what I said so that you don't misunderstand me. For one thing you write "we Brits do not think of ourselves as above our European neighbours." but I never said that you believe in British surpremacy, but British exceptionalism. That means you are not "better" but unique or different. Second, I never said that the reason Britain voted to leave was because of British exceptionalism, but that people pointed to it during the referendum as to why Britain should leave. I am not saying it is a good reason or a bad one, just that it was pointed to.
That's just flat out wrong. Yes, the British were opposed to the French revolution but that has nothing to do with British exceptionalism and everything to do with politics and conservatism. After all Britain was still a monarchy despite parliament having more and more power, and the French revolution revolted against said monarchy. That's why major nation in Europe opposed the French, other than the Dutch because they too were a republic. Not that it helped the Dutch as Napoleon still conquered them like he did to all the other major monarchies in Europe other than Russia and Britain which he failed to conquer. Similarly Brexit was not at all about British exceptionalism but about Britain not fully feeling as a part of Europe due to being an island nation itself and due to still being an empire with many overseas colonies(current and former) which Britain has closer relations with than with their European neighbors. In fact throughout British history they never thought themselves superior to anyone, they didn't need to. They were an island nation so they were safe from invasion as long as their navy was the strongest, and in turn they used said navy to create the largest colonial empire of all European nations. It's not about feeling superior, simply playing to your strengths and making the most out of them.
Nah, you just arrest people over weed, have the biggest incarceration rate in the world and one of the most murderous police ( of the industrialized nation) BUT FREE SPEECH YA'LL! THAT'S ALL THAT IS TO BE THE BEST YEE AWW
Dat Max Depending on the amount of weed you won’t be arrested unless you’re trafficking it and in many states it’s legal. But hey what does that matter way worse than being arrested for watching Tv without a license!
One quick word: Usually, "patriotism" refers to loving your country, but not thinking it's better than the others, whereas modern-day "nationalism" refers to loving your country, but thinking it's the best and better than the rest. So being a German patriot means that you love Germany, but if you're a German nationalist, you think Germany is the best country on Earth. I wanted to say this as a lot of people in the comments are saying that they are patriots of the US and think it's the best, which is technically wrong.
I don’t consider myself a Nationalist, but I do love this country. But if there was ever a time my country fell to tyranny. I would go against my country to save my country. :)
@@kevinmoynihan5118 I would say that no country is the best, but better at certain things. For an example, the US arguably has the best military, but DPR Korea has the largest (in terms of including reserved soldiers, it's 9 mil. or something).
And the fact that the average American IQ equals that of a potato makes it so much worse. For Americans, every country outside the US=Zimbabwe. I visited New York City a few years ago and I was SHOCKED!Absolutely baffled! The sight of garbage everywhere was one thing but the SMELL!!! Holy mother of Christ!!! I was so jealous of Asian people walking around wearing surgery masks 😷! For those of you who've never been, save yourself the ticket cost and hang out outside of your local landfill, minus the tall buildings the experience will be identical.
LOL what even do you mean. I'm European and have lived in the States. Americans 100% think they're better than everyone else, it is not even almost comparable to "do Brits cheer for Germany in the world cup" - not even close. And it's not a malicious accusation, either - I just encountered a LOT (a _LOT_ ) of Americans who presumed that purely because I was foreign (they didn't really quite care which country anyway) that I was from a third world country, because they presumed everything outside North America is lagging far behind them. That's not a malicious presumption, it's ignorance. Americans were also extremely kind and welcoming to me. But YES they thought their country was by default better than mine. To act like American patriotism and isolationism (or at least the remnants of it in culture) are just your standard national pride is ridiculous. You deify your history and your educational systems and television programming focuses on keeping your people ignorant about the rest of the world... of course Americans think they're better. Why sugarcoat it. You can love a country or people even if they're not perfect.
*south Canada. British people are not patriotic as much as Americans, Canadians, Australians, Russians etc. It’s a fact that Britain’s not that patriotic as you got a “queen” and celebrate her rather your country. Until then, British people will remain a odd type of human. Do some research/study why a lot of countries think that there country is the best compared to the British.
I TOTALLY AGREE!! they think themselves better but Amerishit was just lucky because they never got afected "directly" by the the world wars, if they had the Americans would have surrendered imidiatly like France did in WW2
Isaac Alves the reason France surrendered so quickly was because there most skilled troops were cut off from the rest of the country through the blitzkrieg tactic. However France never truly surrendered as it's people still fought and there were Frenchman in the UK where they were evacuated and eventually fought on there soil again. Yes the U.S is lucky there are to very large oceans on either side but that doesn't mean any of what you say or that we think we're better than everyone. Yes there are those people but I'm sure every country has that type of person simply because alot of people make up a country and there's bound to be someone like that. I'm American but I don't think I'm better then everyone. I think wether you live in America or Europe or Asia were just people living our life's in our respective countrys. And FYI Hawaii was bombed and the state of Alaska was invaded by the Japanese in ww 2
@@fullmetaltheorist no dank, not every country thinks they're better than America, I can tell you most of Europe doesn't think of themselves greater than America. The thing that troubles me is yes, Donald Trump is not reflective of every US citizen, but The US elected him into office democratically to represent their core ideals and beliefs as head of state. So people do look at Trump and do make (mostly untrue) assumptions about the population of the US Your elected head of state and representitive to the world is a bumbling, racist idiot. Hopefully that changes soon though
I see, I know Trump is not representative of every American. However, my point was that this is how foreign countries view the US. Btw Trump was elected, yes he would not be elected under a system of proportional representation but congress uses a different system.
@@smoogle3g4c37 “A system of proportional representation.” Do you mean where the people themselves elect the president, each state has the same amount of votes, or where each state gets votes based on their population?
@Humanity Galatica No, it's not. No one country is "better" than others. That's not a thing. But if it hypothetically were ... Firstly, America has a spray-tanned white-supremacist as their leader who suggested his citizens drink bleach to combat COVID-19, and some poor fools took his word for it and died. Still on the subject of COVID-19, they've been leading the world deaths at this point, and it's citizens can't get the healthcare they need because it's too expensive for most of them. The education system is absolutely terrible and so many kids who would have gone far in life end up ignorant and failed because of it. You can't drink until you're twenty-one, but for some reason it's totally fine to draft eighteen year-olds and send them to war. They're constantly interfering in political matters that aren't their business in the middle east, just so they can get the oil. Allowing people to have guns on them only results in the deaths of innocents. Also, they claim to be the freest country in the world, when in reality they only rank 23rd place. Not hating, just stating the facts. Personally, I love America. Everyone there is super friendly and nice (at least the ones I've met were) But they're not better than other countries. Like I said, that's not a thing. Again, not hating, love America, still not better than anyone else though.

@@thesenate5913 I agree wholeheartedly that America isn't perfect yet. We have to Abolish Public Scools, Public Roads, Social Security, Native American reservations, and Welfare first.
I think there is an important distinction between believing your country is best and believing the people in your country are best. I believe America is the best country on the planet. That’s why I haven’t moved to another country. I DO NOT believe Americans are the best people on the planet though. One makes you patriotic, the other makes you xenophobic. By the way, if you live in another country and believe it’s the best country on the planet THATS GREAT! I love seeing people loving their country! It’s a very subjective thing so why argue about it?
Borni Ekellem Sure if you use it’s exact definition of its root and suffix. Then xenophobia means fear of the unknown, or more specifically, fear of unknown people, strangers, foreigners, etc. However, it’s connotative definition that you will find in any dictionary is: “prejudice against people from other countries.” So yeah I’d say it that works for what I’m talking about. America is awesome, people from other countries who want to live here and make it a better place are welcome.
NarrowStone I find the line between nationalism and patriotism is very blurred. Many sources claim they are the exact same, others say they are not while also giving them the exact same definitions. This is why I simply avoid using the word nationalism. No one seems to know what it means. Now, *ethnic nationalism* is extremely dangerous and leads to things like the holocaust.
@Cicero Progontus the best compared to whom? The best country is [instert any other country with freedom rights]. If everyone has freedom, everyone is the best in that aspect. So, most of the world.
Feels Guy well in 1941 there wasn't a practical bomber that could go from say, Tokyo to the West coast of the US and back reliably. Hence fancy Nazi rocket designs to launch a rocket which skims the atmosphere, flying wing jet powered designs, U boats towing V2s, etc. So no. Airplanes of the type needed to bomb the US with a meaningful load didn't exists. It's the reason why the US doesn't teach about the West coast Blitz.

I personally think as an american that America is the best country. I also think we have plenty of reason to boast in the achievements of our country and that everyone should be able to do the same. You can be proud of your people. We have the strongest army, so I'm proud of that. We have the strongest economy, so I'm proud of that. I'm proud of our people and their pride, So I'm proud of that. People normally use Americans invading indian lands and kicking them out as why America is bad. Normally they are Europeans. That is hypocritical because many of times European nations invaded neighboring countries and kicked out the natives. I do hope Americanism continues. But with leftism on the rise ,(not normal liberalism), I do fear we could lose that.
All the comments are about people noticing that there are no actual bad comments and most other comments are about the people pointing out that no comments are bad
This reminds me of a quote I once saw that I still am blown away that the commenter didn’t see their own irony: “You Americans are always generalizing about other countries.”
I am from a US territory, I like to think that every nation, state, city, country, and culture is great and flawed, that all can achieve something, and that all have something to contribute to the world!

As an American I can say- My Dad thinks we’re the best country. However, his father came from Italy, and he has great love and respect for Italy as well.
Probably a late comment, but the stereotype of excessive American patriotism is best observed when compared to the patriotism (if any) from developing or underdeveloped nations. A lot of people from 3rd world countries don't feel proud of their country and don't even have faith in their government most of the time. Which is why Americans are an easy target for envy, as obnoxious they may be.

The idea that america is the greatest nation ever is ridiculous. Sure it's been very influential can influence the future. However, in terms of prosperity, freedom, the press and internal politics America is definetly below "the best"
To be fair, what ever side we chose in World War I would've won, not because of industry or anything, but the moral of France and Britain was lacking in 1916-17, so the Yank troops boosted moral heavily to the point that they then lasted long enough to grind Germany down
I don't think American Exceptionalism is nearly as much of a thing now as it was in the past. There's a dedicated movement to "debunking it" thanks to a certain politician that was elected in 2016 using a version of it in his campaign slogan. But it's not just that guy that has caused this kind of response. People bang on the "We are the greatest nation in the world" drum when they want to get elected, but I'd like to think it's not terribly effective, or at least not the deciding factor when we elect someone. I was raised on American Exceptionalism, but I don't think I live in a perfect nation; I kind of want to work towards what I personally think is closer to perfect, but what I have in mind is probably never going to happen.
As an American with little knowledge of American history (I'm only in my first year of high school haha), the US has a superiority complex. We, as a country were despised by most nations after the Revolution, and the fact we were able to win and lose dependence Britain was insane back then. We fundamentally built ourselves, of course borrowing from the nations we had left from. Our government ideas were built on things the colonists disliked about Parliament, we were close to not even having a president at all as America was for the people. Bottom line we borrow and Americanize. Our food isn't even ours, we took it from Europe and made it different. The reason why we favor patriotism is because we were built out of nothing, we were broke. Now we are one of the leading factories of technology (i.e. Bill Gates and computers, Apple, advancements in broadband internet) and having a huge part in the entertainment industry worldwide (Hollywood, mainstream media). I appreciate being American, but you can say we look like dicks. I personally don't think I'm better than most nations, I only know my history so I can't have an opinion on say Russia or India. One thing I will say, our country is in a political shit storm right now, maybe it's karma for our mistakes during the Revolution and expansions of the country, who knows. I can have my pride in my country. Leave your opinions in the replies (I love learning new stuff, especially about other countries) Edit: Today is July 6, 2020 and I would like to say a few things that have changed my perception as I have learned a lot! Yes, America does have a superiority complex, especially because we won the Revolutionary War against the big power that was Great Britain, although Britain is crackling as a superstate and had no money from fighting the French. Additionally, our Constitution and Revolution set the example for other countries to follow in our footsteps, like for Haiti and the French. However, we have a very problematic government system and we actually aren’t all that great. Like look at out BLM protests and how we’ve reacted to COVID-19? Anyways, I’ve become a little more educated but I’m leaving my original comment up because I still want to learn. We were built on colonization, but people here seem to forget that we are all foreigners and we are only Americans because our white founders pillaged and made homes here. Thank you :) TL;DR I was pretty uneducated, America isn’t that great but we believe so because we beat the Britain and have technology and stuff. I want knowledge and other opinions besides my own.
@Stephen Jenkins Like I said I have little knowledge on American History (and World History for that matter), and yea I do come off as arrogant because I'm listing off why most Americans are arrogant people, just stating current facts if anything :)
@Stephen Jenkins Look I am just stating one factor why us Americans are arrogant, you can call me arrogant for stating such thing, that is a stereotype. My statement on technology is not, because we did have a part in technological advancements. Like I've stated multiple times I do not have much knowledge on world history, which I'm not going to give an excuse for, that is fault on my part. Most of my argument is true, I can understand some parts are incorrect, but if you are completely bothered then I will correct my original post.
@Stephen Jenkins Thanks for the references. It baffles me how much stuff I don't even know about other countries because I'm just trapped in my own little nation bubble I guess.
On the contrary, there where quite a few nations that either didn't care about our Revolution because we where so far away or actually where quite happy it happened. Both France and Spain (Very major European powers) especially where elated with our Revolution, as they had serious beef with the English. France is a huge reason we actually won in the first place. They sent ships, soldiers, and several very skilled generals to aid the Minutemen Militia and Continental Army. They are also the reason the British could not land reinforcements not retreat at the final battle of New York, thus leading to the defeat of the British Colonial General leading the campaign in the colonies and forcing complete surrender. On top of that, America isn't nearly the huge group of uneducated assholes that think they are superior. It's just that the minority that does think that is much louder than the majority. And we are not the only nation to commit war crimes back then. The Spaniard's did it to the Native Americans and Aztecs, and it was a thing long before to just murder the fuck out of your enemy, civilians included, out of every country in the world the United States, with the shortest history out of every other nation that has otherwise existed in some capacity for many hundreds if not thousands of years, has the least amount of blood on it's hands. You can't just look at what we do long and say "Look, that proves America is terrible" because every nation has it's low points, some more than others certainly. Is America the "Best"? Maybe, maybe not, a nation's superiority can be judged by both facts and opinions. You could say America is great because it has a huge military and thus can protect itself and it's allies. You can also say it spends too much on the military and not enough on civil service. Ext ext.
I love this video. As an American, I have been grasping at a solid explanation for the resistance of my country. And now I've come to know why i value it ever so much: we are a never-ending social experiment put at odds with one another in terms of both ideology and character all to churn out the most efficient and most advanced form of society. That is where are freedom comed from and why are hesitant against letting go of it. It is because no matter how bloody it gets, we at least hold the freedom to shake our ideals and the equal freedom to criticize those same ideals. It is because we value self-reliance and cooperation that there is nothing that will truly destroy our society.
I'm American, and I've seen more people who hate America and think other countries are way better than I've seen anybody legitimately say the US is the best country. I've also talked to a variety of people online living in other first world countries saying they'd rather live in the US. From my anecdotal understanding, a lot of the people saying Americans are egotistically patriotic and are ignorant of the rest of the world are people from the US, and it's many of those same people who are actually ignorant of the world outside the US. Again that's only my experience, so take it with a grain of salt. America isn't the best country ever, but it's far from the hellhole some people make it out to be.
Americans are indeed overweight and stupid, and one of the symptoms of their stupidity is believing that their country is awful and that Europe is objectively better. America has an unexcusable amount of problems, but it's still a rich country with better geography than most of the world
We all would like to think our country is the best and that's okay but just because we state something, does not mean it's true and in terms of what country truly is the best we are faced with two questions. Is it overall best or best at a certain thing and can you/we prove said things?

You are basing that on a single thing, no single thing is enough to see which country is best. You have to take into account the average GDP, human rights abuses, levels of democracy, free speech, educational levels, human happiness index, defense, governmental spending's, public transport and safety, drug uses, low and high income housing, employment, trade levels and the list goes on and on. I should add that this censorship you mentioned is something that is barely used and is hyped to a great extent by your media, i should also add that the United States actively censor their citizens as well. You have certain rights and codes much like everyone else, you don't however always live by them.
Patriotism is OK, as long as you don't let it rise to your head. As a German, I personally think that Germany is better than America, but this is most likely due to the fact that one can see the flaws of others more easily than the flaws of oneself. I wish that more people realize that they cannot form a neutral opinion about their own country.
To be honest, it really depends where you meet an American. A lot of people can differ since we come from different backgrounds. Some of us can be extremely cocky and some can be laid back. I hope this help people understand.

Imo when they get asked if they belive they're the best country in the world they think on a global scale and all their achievements not in political things like taxes, rights, etc. cause us politics are VERY polorized.
1. Sure 2. Highest debt. China is probably bigger 3. Space programs are expensive. Even NASA rarely uses its own equipment (Soyuz is Russian, the ISS is a collaboration between multiple countries, etc) 4. Hollywood has instilled a false sense of exclusivity: any movie not made in hollywood (and by extension America) is either weird art house stuff or just bad 5. That's just... wrong. Plenty of music in the US that hit the charts come from other countries, not to mention other countries have their own chart toppers. Hell, most chart-topping music from 1950 to 1980 or so come from the UK and its "colonies" 6. Again, China. Not to mention so many big "American" companies just offshore their labour and ressources to other countries, so they're really only American in that their HQ is in the US. 7. That's not necessarily a good thing. No one looks at a rich person and says "wow, I'm so lucky I live in the same country as them, that means I could be rich just like them". Their upbringing, their family and friends, their commitment, and their luck is what primarily made them rich, not which first world country they come from 8. See 7 9. That's pretty arbitrary. I mean it's true, but I don't get how it's relevant, really... 10. America also sends the most athletes to the Olympics. Not really fair when most other countries competing have only a handful of athletes versus the hundreds America sends 11. Again, don't see how that makes it better 12. Again, same as 11 America is just big and bold. It makes a show out of everything and instills patriotism into the cultural zeitgeist. Instead of actually being the best country, Americans want people to *think* the US is the best. If the US really is the best country, then we're screwed. Good thing it's not, then. But it could be; things just need to change in the USA.
@@leumasperron 1. Fact not "sure" 2. Government debt doesn't take away from a countries economic input and output. China just has a large population with cheap labor notice how the fastest growing economies India and China have a +1billion population and rely heavily on manufacturing and have a very low PPP . China's economy could never stand if you shrank its population down to the size of the US. Imo Japan's and Germany's economy are far more impressive than China's considering they have 9% and 6% of the population have a GDP 1/3 and 1/4 the size of China. 3. US only used Russian rockets for 9 years and just recently switched back to US rockets also the US put in about 2/3 of the funding for the iss 4. Just goes to show its dominance in the industry. 5. In the top 10 global charts 8 artist are American and the other 2 reside in America. Music is subjective but America has clear dominance in the industry. 6. Mentioning China doesn't magically put its companies on top just like off shore labor doesn't magically make it a non American company. A companies HQ is the heart of the company. Last I checked assembly line workers aren't making global marketing campaigns, logistical decisions, and multi billion dollar deals. If you've taken a basics economic class you'd know that off shore work is a normal part of any countries economy. 7. Becoming millionaire is based on luck and not the country they are born in? Well I'll be damned the US also happens to be the luckiest country in the world I guess. With the wealthiest famillies and friends who probably got their wealth from the saturated luck on the land or maybe just maybe the US has a economic market structure that allows more opportunities than most other countries. I've met 2 millionaires in my life they all built their wealth with smart investments. I met somone 2 weeks ago that makes $15k a month helping his father manage a small company they started. My cousin's husband came to the US poor as poor could be and has some of the worst English I've heard but he manage to start a successful contracting business and now makes insane amounts of money. 8. A million dollars is nothing compared to a billion. Most billionaires are innovators. Everybody has great ideas so I can agree with you here that these people were probably in a greater position than most to make their ideas come to fruition. 9. It's very relevant alpha++ cities are global economic centers. 10. Doesn't change the fact that they win. You could send a million bad athletes to the Olympics and none of them would win. The Olympics are the best of the best each country sends their best. Sending more athletes doesn't magically mean they get a boost in skill. 11. Overpopulation doesn't sound appealing but that's just my opinion. 12. Although not so relevant today a countrie's control of land was seen as sign of power. More land = more power. Also more resources. I'm not saying the US is the best country that's subjective. I was just giving reasons why Americans see it as the best. Every country has their pros and cons. No country is the best it all depends on the person living there and if they think it's the best to them. All countries have problems but US problems are often put on the spotlight due to its global presence making it the center of attention and criticism. In my home country cops could kill your entire family and send you their heads and all you see on the news is people freaking out about something the US president tweeted and "US bad bad" .

You'd be surprised how many people actually do well without it and don't actually care or want UHC. Alot of the people I've seen who have big medical expenses are old smokers or really unhealthy people who can't take care of themselves. Don't get me wrong I would like UHC but it's not as one sided as many people think and there's plenty of good reasons why people are against it. - all countries have debt people only look at gdp but many fail to realize that the US has a net worth of around $90 trillion. - 20 isn't bad. Before this year the US was consistently ranked 6-7 but dropped to 20 due to "political shifts" and if things clear up it could go back to 7th. What?! How?! . Goes to show that alot of surveys are influenced by politics. -School shootings are not normal I hear this ignorant comment way too much from people who don't know anything about the topic. The US in general hasn't had a major mass shooting this whole year. Canada beat the US to it with a 22 death killingspree. - ALL politics are full of extremists. EVERY country has political extremist. - I've seen videos of people in the UK saying it's a hoax and people in my home country started theories too. Again every country has extremist. Lots of countries are doing worse than US. UK has way more deaths by population that the US(uhc hard at work). No country was prepared for this pandemic. Shaming a country for it just shows the person is ignorant to the facts and statistics.
the French replaced their monarch with a dictator. same with the Russians and many more. the American revolution was and is probably as far as I can recall. the only nation to have a violent revolution and not descend into chaos or a dictatorship. maybe the Dutch can claim that too but they had a monarch as there head of state. which I personally see as no better than a dictator.
steamtacular I hear that word thrown around a lot and it seems to be thrown by critics of any system. in which there are individuals that have more success than their common countrymen or where there are fewer individuals running a system than live in a system. which is every system in the past and future. it's a gross oversimplification that gets us nowhere like what's the difference between a dictatorship, democracy, and a monarchy the answer(going by the definition of oligarchy). is there aren't any as they all have a committee, a house or council that are made up of a small group of people in relation to the larger public
Strongest military: US GDP per capita: Ireland, Singapore, and Luxembourg in the top 10. US ranked 19th Best social mobility, work culture, and overall standard of living: Nordic countries like Denmark, Norway, and Sweden Best Healthcare: Japan and South Korea Best public transportation: Japan Best access to higher education: Northwestern Europe
Oh, and while we're listing statistics about which country is best at what, I may as well mention statistics on... democracy. Although many Americans proclaim the US to be "the world's most democratic country", actual statistics give that title elsewhere, so here's the country that the Democracy Index lists as the world's most democratic country, as of 2019. Most democratic: Norway (already the best social mobility, work culture, and standard of living, as you said) For more information about democracy: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Democracy_Index#Democracy_Index_by_country_2019
@@poankiyu7664 I can see the irony there! The most democratic country still has a head of state that inherits their post! I think it's not simply an American thing but an Anglo thing. Both the English and their friends believe that they are unique somehow. English or British history is somehow cut off from the rest of Europe. Think Churchill's "We're in Europe but not of it"
During the French revolution the British were disgusted by what they saw in France.
Sir Nils Olav both Britain and America have left their foot print on the planet, Britain helped spread the English language up till ww2 after all
Liberty Prime and democracy and civilisation etc.
Luke Harvey
I'm afraid I will just have to say I disagree with everything you've said.

One quick word:
Usually, "patriotism" refers to loving your country, but not thinking it's better than the others, whereas modern-day "nationalism" refers to loving your country, but thinking it's the best and better than the rest.

That's not a malicious presumption, it's ignorance. Americans were also extremely kind and welcoming to me. But YES they thought their country was by default better than mine.
"xenophobic" is definately the wrong word here. A phobia is an irrational fear and not hate or whatever you are trying to say it is.
Borni Ekellem
Sure if you use it’s exact definition of its root and suffix.
Hey, nothing wrong with patriotism. There's everything wrong with nationalism though

I find the line between nationalism and patriotism is very blurred. Many sources claim they are the exact same, others say they are not while also giving them the exact same definitions. This is why I simply avoid using the word nationalism. No one seems to know what it means. Now, *ethnic nationalism* is extremely dangerous and leads to things like the holocaust.

Probably a late comment, but the stereotype of excessive American patriotism is best observed when compared to the patriotism (if any) from developing or underdeveloped nations.

I am a proud American but it feels a little stuck up to say we are better than everyone else
MagenticArcanine I think it’s the other way around
It seems my superiority has led to some controversy
Leave your opinions in the replies (I love learning new stuff, especially about other countries)
Edit: Today is July 6, 2020 and I would like to say a few things that have changed my perception as I have learned a lot! Thank you :)
TL;DR I was pretty uneducated, America isn’t that great but we believe so because we beat the Britain and have technology and stuff.
Wholesome comment section
Ext ext.

Cheeseburger Freedom Man Thank you for saving the bees.

America doesn't know anyone else.

2. Biggest economy
3. Best Space program
4. Most popular movies
5. Most popular songs
6. Biggest companies(that have the biggest global reach)
7. Most millionaires(gives a sense of opportunity)
8. Most billionaires(same as 7 but more controversial)

1. Sure
2. Highest debt. China is probably bigger
3. Space programs are expensive. Even NASA rarely uses its own equipment (Soyuz is Russian, the ISS is a collaboration between multiple countries, etc)
4. Hollywood has instilled a false sense of exclusivity: any movie not made in hollywood (and by extension America) is either weird art house stuff or just bad
5. That's just... wrong. Plenty of music in the US that hit the charts come from other countries, not to mention other countries have their own chart toppers. Hell, most chart-topping music from 1950 to 1980 or so come from the UK and its "colonies"
Their upbringing, their family and friends, their commitment, and their luck is what primarily made them rich, not which first world country they come from

1. Fact not "sure"
3. US only used Russian rockets for 9 years and just recently switched back to US rockets also the US put in about 2/3 of the funding for the iss
Aw being a Brit and watching this makes me feel like a proud parent!
All your parenting was fantastic. India, the middle east, africa, etc. Didnt fuck up your kids or anything
you should not be proud of the monster you created we all know if they collapse they are going to nuke everyone before they do

Ok guys, it really depends on what we call the best. Is it the most powerful, biggest, richest, just, happiest, most beautiful?
The origin story of the USA isn't actually special. Lots of nations have pretty similar ones.
Like?
the French replaced their monarch with a dictator. same with the Russians and many more. the American revolution was and is probably as far as I can recall. the only nation to have a violent revolution and not descend into chaos or a dictatorship. maybe the Dutch can claim that too but they had a monarch as there head of state. which I personally see as no better than a dictator.
The US revolution led to an oligarchy. Essentially the same thing as a dictator.
steamtacular I hear that word thrown around a lot and it seems to be thrown by critics of any system. in which there are individuals that have more success than their common countrymen or where there are fewer individuals running a system than live in a system.
which is every system in the past and future. it's a gross oversimplification that gets us nowhere like what's the difference between a dictatorship, democracy, and a monarchy the answer(going by the definition of oligarchy). is there aren't any as they all have a committee, a house or council that are made up of a small group of people in relation to the larger public
steamtacular if America was an oligarchy I’m surprised Harry Truman won with less than one million to his name
Strongest military: US
GDP per capita: Ireland, Singapore, and Luxembourg in the top 10. US ranked 19th
Best social mobility, work culture, and overall standard of living: Nordic countries like Denmark, Norway, and Sweden
Best Healthcare: Japan and South Korea
Best public transportation: Japan
Best access to higher education: Northwestern Europe
FINLAND
So, in other words, the US is only good at war, and that's mostly because other countries have matured enough to not want war
Most democratic: Norway (already the best social mobility, work culture, and standard of living, as you said)
For more information about democracy: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Democracy_Index#Democracy_Index_by_country_2019
@@Hand-in-Shot_Productions Kind of ironic that it's most democratic seeing as it has a king and that. Not saying that it's not but still.
@@poankiyu7664 I can see the irony there! The most democratic country still has a head of state that inherits their post! Then again, it kind of does make sense, since most of the executive power of Norway is in the prime minister, which is appointed by the _Stortinget_ ("Great Assembly"), itself elected by the people.
Its great and has a lot of potential but has too much pride and it/they doesn't want to work on itself . . .
You shouldn't think of urself as better than anyone else. It only leads to problems. You can be patriotic but going out of ur way to express how you feel America is the greatest is immature and nothing good comes of it
Hello, I enjoy your videos.

Nationalism
Fuck off!! America was just lucky because they never got afected "directly" by the the world wars, if they had the Americans would have surrendered imidiatly like France did in WW2
Isaac Alves he just said a word is it your trigger word or something?
Isaac Alves france surrendering or not doesnt matter, cause my point was that american exceptionalism is nationalism, and i am not saying that is wrong,
Every country can use a bit of nationalism.
I believe America is the greatest country on Earth but in a somewhat tongue and cheek way, i think America does have many points to applaud and a few problems to work on too but i root for the USA because thats where i live.
I love your comment honestly. The US has accomplished and will probably still accomplish a lot of good for the world, but like with all other countries in the world it has its own massive issues and being aware of those issues is important to fix them
The British/ English, don’t cheer on Germany while they’re playing England (cause that’s what people think Britain is) in the World Cup, but you best believe the Scottish, Irish, and Welsh are
I appreciate the fact you stay neutral when you talk about these topics.
I’m a communist and Soviet supporter myself, but I don’t just actively hate America cause it’s America.
