Just wanted to say great job on this tutorial series. I'm not normally a fan of video tutorials but this does such a good job of showing you everything you need to get started in no time flat. Extremely hyped to find out what Renoise has to offer, this intro along with the well-featured demo version might just have converted me.
Just finished the tutorial series, very well done. And what a great piece of software! Really like the simplicity and fast workflow. I will be buying this.
Pattern Matrix is one of the few things that is very unintuitive about Renoise. The main problem is the lack of the ability to display sample or synthesizer names, so if you have a lot of patterns you can get confused during the final arrangement of your song. The names of the samples or vst are numbered at the top, but only a few letters are displayed, so you have to use very short names, which is not always enough for comfortable work. Arranging this playlist is a nightmare and takes a long time. Just think about adding new features to help arrange in Pattern Matrix. Sample and VST for example preset names should be visible in each block. As above where is snare, kick, clap etc.
I'm loving this tutorial series (newcomer here), I just wished you guys updated it, it's been a long time even though the videos are mostly still functional and didatic
Choice of automation here is confusing to me, why are we EQ boosting frequencies we've just filtered out? The boost comes in at the hp closes and dumps the frq? It doesn't sound like it's doing anything useful. Have I just not had enough coffee today?.... I'd better get the kettle on....
Hoi, is there a way to add a pattern before the first pattern in the pattern sequancer? let say i make a main section but i want to add an intro to it, i would need to go before the main section so.
@@djjd5000 If you're a registered user you can always download older versions from the Backstage area to use their assets. I've uploaded a copy of the Mind War instrument though and you can grab it here: duncanhemingway.com/downloads/MindWar.xrni
Nice, I always like to have a wide selection of instruments to choose from... still learning to put together a song, but the tutorial series really showcased the possibilities of pads, drum elements, all kinds of neat stuff! Good to know I can still use instruments from the previous versions. =)
Hi, the Presets for the EQ5 have remained the same since version 3.0 (which is used in this video). Are you perhaps confusing Presets with the use of the Graphical Automation panel at 4:53?
@@renoise I am not exactly sure, but the issue that I am running into is that, at 4:57, I just don't have any of the selections that show up on your screen under EQ5 setting. I can see the EQ5 on my machine, and there's a down arrow, too, but when I click on it, nothing gets expanded. The "Gain 1 (100Hz)" that you have selected isn't visible on my Renoise installation. It's a great software though. I'm planning to use it to create small patterns that I can mix down and plug into my FL Studio projects until I know it well enough to use entirely on its own.
@@ivanl.8201 Parameters will always be visible in the Graphical Automation panel unless you hide them by clicking on the arrow next to the device name (EQ5).
@@renoise That makes sense, but what do I need to click on to have all these EQ gain settings show up once I click on the little arrow to expand? I'm looking at the analog filter, and the cutoff parameter shows/hides correctly when I toggle the down arrow, but it's only because the cutoff parameter is already checked in the filter settings panel/widget. I don't see such check boxes to check in order to show those under the EQ5. I'm sure they would toggle on/off properly if there was something to toggle in the first place, but I don't know how to activate those settings so that they are visible, just like the cutoff parameter for the filter is.
@@renoise Ok, I think I figured out the part of it. I had to switch the display from "Graph Only" to "Sliders Only" or "Full Display" in order to be able to check off those parameters. But these are only for individual frequency bands, and it looks like that my EQ5 has different presets from the one demoed. I don't see the "Gain 1 (100 Hz)' in my presets or anything similar. It's really a minor thing honestly; it's more confusing than anything when trying to learn something new and a bit complicated as opposed to a feature that I absolutely need. I can certainly work around it :)

9 years later and this tutorial still holds up today! Thank you! I can see why frums would use this :3

This is fantastic!
Excellent and concise
@renoise The song in this tutorial is no longer online as of Feb 2023. Link 403's and it doesn't appear to be hosted on the original site anywhere. :(

I don't think the pad you used to build your melody is included in the 3.X product? Mindwar I think its called?
This tutorial was created with Renoise 3.0, which has the Mindwar instrument. The packaged instruments were changed for version 3.1.
Thanks @@renoise. What would be a comparable instrument to use?

I don't see those EQ5 gain presets in the version 3.4.2 that I am using. I just ended up eyeballing it and adjusting the EQ curve manually.

Fade out =). Thanks!
I love renoise it's so refreshing after years of logic
seems like fading in and fading out could be easier.
Impressive! :)))))
Renoise 3.3.1. No Mind War Instrument. Had to go find it......
I can't figure out how to play the whole sequence of patterns. Pressing space just plays one pattern on loop.
You may have looped the pattern by selecting the box next to it: tutorials.renoise.com/wiki/Pattern_Sequencer#Looping_Patterns
@@renoise That solved it!. Thank you and thanks also for the quick reply :)
We got Aphex Twin over here
Pads?! I don't got that!
Looks like it's from an old version. I was able to get it by downloading v3.0.1 and then copying the instruments folder into the new version's folder
I hate how that pads sounds lol...
Incredibly hard trackers for the majority of us dummies, very much a narcissists wet dream.
cant find this pad anywhere
