I tell this story many times. I was living in Newark NJ, never been to the beach. 8th grade graduation, I got $100.00, and bought a surfboard. because I loved the " Beach Boys. The rest was history. for the next 20 years, all I did was surf, lots of contests, etc. LOVE THEM
Great song by the Beach Boys so iconic and that harmony wow! Serious side of Brian Wilson's song writing talent it tells a story about a young guys life and outlook.
Brian Wilson was a highly talented musician , writer and musician. With the help of Tony Asher he wrote a number of rock songs that can be considered classics today. It was a shame that drugs a nervous breakdown, and mental illness ,sidelined him after a few of the early years of the group. Even after he stopped touring the group still had great songs from Brian.
One of the great virtues of The Beach Boys sound was the impossibly tight harmony. So much of Brian’s genius revolve around his ability to hear the end product while still arranging. I wish all the survivors were able to get along as singers once again.
Yes, and if only Carl and Dennis were still alive .... we can only imagine the heartache their early deaths brough Brian. The older brother. Live forever, Brian!
@@cynthiarowley719 my mom, a longtime 4F fan, once told me she didn't care for the Beach Boys. Some years later I played this song for her, and she suddenly saw their music in a different context.
Maybe should never have been push back as the drummer because as sèen here and in early songs like This Car of Mine his vocals was an essential part of the Beach Boys.
Love this song. Can anyone please confirm if there are any known recordings of only the three Wilson brothers singing harmonies together, like "Early Demos" pre Beach Boys? Ive searched everywhere, no luck... 🙏 🇦🇺
Brian was clearly not happy with the way the guys handled the whole-tone cluster on the word “sighing” in this performance. That’s probably why to this day he uses a different vocal harmony at that spot, which is a shame because it was the best part of the song and his current group is capable of singing it.
Harmonizing is just outstanding! Perfection at this point!😊❤
Unbelievably beautiful

It's ironic that the room Brian wrote about is no longer there, their family house a victim of the 105 freeway widening.
I stopped by there to see the dedication plaque in September. My family couldn’t understand why THAT was the one thing I wanted to see in California.
These memories are in our hearts- not in a wooden frame.

I understand.
Two minutes and ten seconds of perfection.

I can't sing at all and I can't imagine how it must feel to be a man blessed with an angelic voice.
Right like so good his voice

this is the earliest they got to an orchestra, and years later, they got an orchestral album of their own
Is the orchestral album , Pet Sounds ?
@@tomasiobermudez2588 well, kinda but the one i was talking about was the philharmonic album

It's evident from this song that there would never have been the Beach Boys if there had not first been the Four Freshmen.
That what BW says!

I love how they just let them sing and not worry about playing their instruments for this.
This is the most incredible little song.
Let's just say it: our generation has the Beatles and The Beach Boys. I'll hold them against anything music has generated since.
Physically you ‘had’ them in your same basic age bracket, but musically both of those bands transcend generations.
Notice that Dennis is more animated and moving with the music than the others
He was a fantastic show drummer..Hal Blaine even said so.

Not as animated or crazy as Keith Moon. lol
I've been looking for this video for a long time, thanks
Si, yo también jeje

Wow!live performance l think? Awesome
It was definitely "live".
David Marks is singing with them, the Beach Boy no one remembers(He was fired by Murry soon after, and left the group forever
I believe David was back in the 50th reunion tour. I don’t see him in this grouping. Murray was a total ass.
David isn't in this video
Watch Mike Love. He's trying to keep from cracking upon live tv. I think Dennis must have done something to make him laugh.

That’s a subtlety I never knew.
Logical speculation but completely untrue.
@@metv2363 Then why did he change the harmony?
@@Fool3SufferingFools, you're making an assumption that has no basis in reality.
@@metv2363 Not an assumption, only a reasonable speculation. And you're calling it "untrue" on the basis of nothing whatsoever.
Introvert's Anthem
I believe it's 4 part harmony but there are 5 singers. How does he do that? Does someone double?
Maybe no falsetto in barbershop? So BW is the 5th, perhaps.
Wow
@CelticWomanOfficial here’s an idea for your next cover song
There's a moment on the second verse where Mike Love is out of tune, and Brian is looking over to see what's wrong...
To weird!!
Mike love is still bald😂😂😂
