Brian Wilson: the master of seamless transitions through the vocal registers. From abdominal to chest; from chest to laryngeal; to ventricular; to throat; to oral; and head (nasal). Unmatched in skill when in his prime.
This description should've been read at all events/concerts introducing Brian! Sadly, what with his recent dementia diagnosis, I doubt we'll be seeing much of Brian anymore ):
The Beach Boys without Brian’s falsetto just aren’t the same. As far as live performances go, this was their prime. Their records got better, but as a five-piece live act, this is The Beach Boys.
Definetely agree. I love the early original BeachBoys . I think Carl did a great job holding the group together though once Brian stopped touring during that break he had. They have similar voices that's why I think it worked .
It doesn't get any better than this - the best performance on RUclips, hands down and no contest. No guitar effects, excellent drumming, no autotune, superb harmonies and high falsetto, perfectly on pitch. Words fail. The prettiest song ever written, with an achingly beautiful closing line. Even the girls screaming doesn't take away from the effect, and that is really saying something.
True, the harmonies rise above the screeching. I’ve never understood why girls scream at bands & I’m a girl. However, ‘In My Room’ being a softer, slower song the sounds of screaming were ridiculously intrusive - how could anybody spoil that song intentionally.
@lynxone7039 When this song came in the radio anywhere we teenage girls were, everyone of us would crowd around the radio and listen, as if it were a religious experience.” Surfer Girl” was so “holy” to us. It wasn’t about a “itzy bitzy bikini,” it was just about one of us. It belonged to us!
It's one thing to listen to the song, which is already so beautiful, but I love that we can experience Brian's raw musical talent here, and just the original guys playing drums and singing :)
One of the most flawless live performances of all time!!!! 17 year old Karl on lead guitar flawless, Dennis left handed drummer playing on a right handed kit still crushing it! Brian being perfectionist Brian.
and because these songs were all written on piano it is so damn hard to play them on guitar, I dont see how they did it, especially back then before the internet where you were on your own figuring things out.
Are you sure that was live? It really doesn't seem like it to me. I'm guessing they recorded it live before the show and are now pantomiming to that recording.

I am truly sorry for all of you and your bad luck at missing the good clean fun we all used to have back then. Men were men and ladies were ladies and the respect was wonderful between the two.
God Only Knows is a very beautiful song but I think of it as a spiritual message. I mean for example, could you see yourself slow dancing with a significant other to "God Only Knows" or "Surfer Girl"?

Brian has the only falsetto that can compete with Frankie Valli. Brian’s voice is perfect and their harmonies are The Beach Boys Trademark.

Frankie Valli’s falsetto sounds like Mickey Mouse. Brian’s was superior
