Micro Vr vs V4b one cabinet

  • both amps, one cab, settings adjusted on micro, v4b flat.
    the micro has more mids, and a little less bass than the v4, so I dropped the mids and upped the bass.
    They're very close to eachother. which is awesome, seeing as how the v4b has a total of eight tubes in it, and the micro has a whopping zero.
    enjoy

    Its absolutely awesome to hear that...i own Micro VR(black one) and i thought it sounded the best than any of my previous amps(i had quite a few) but had i no chance to try V4B or the big VR...i listened to studio demo of an Heritage 50th SVT and i got exactly the same sound out of my micro...so i thought its impossible...now your video confirmed it...it DOES sound like a big one...as you sad, bit of tweaking to match the oomph of a big one flat...but its there...and i cant be any happier...plus at 200w(bass gear magazine rated it 260 at 4 ohm actually) its not that "small" of an amp at all...just very portable, thanks for those videos i love em

    great video, the micro VR is such a sleeper amp in the micro category... with this head it really depends how efficient of a cab your using. IK these types of statements are silly but for this amp it's pretty true to say it's a LOUD 200 watts

    • @freebass87
      @freebass87  Год назад +2

      Yeah dude. 200w is loud. No matter what the "high power" trend seems to think about it.
      No one will ever need any more than 300w...ever. As long as you have enough speakers, anything is loud. Or simply, the right speakers can make anything enough.
      My first amp was a 35w 112 combo. I played it with a full punk band, then a grunge/metal band, and a surf rock band, before I ever felt like I needed anything more.

    Just came across your Fralin PJ video and your tone is 👌, I asked what you were playing through but decided to check your other vids and came across your Ampeg rigs. I would say you probably have the best tone of any of the bass videos I've seen although Santys Void ( or something like that) has a nice Ampeg tone as well. What I like about your videos is you are playing through an actual amp and cab and not direct. Our church bought a Mini Ampeg and my son brought it home one day because he's the guitarist for our church, they thought it was messed up but it was just the cable. I got to play it at a very low volume because it was late at night but seeing a few videos of them It's on my list of amps to get 👍

      Right on bro! I appreciate that.
      I think on that fralin video, it was my Micro vr on a 112av. I think. It could've been my pf800, but it sounds like the 112. It has that sorta gritty breakup in the higher mid range like that cab has.

    You can do this sort of comparison with so many different amps. People find it hard to believe, but most of the tonal change with amplifiers is when they have features that others don't have (like being able to cut / boost certain frequencies) and which cab you run them through. But when you take two amps and have them completely flat, chances are they sound almost identical through the same cab. Even more when it's the exact same brand and one literally being a sort of grandson of the previous amp haha

    • @freebass87
      @freebass87  Год назад +3

      Yup. I mean, every brand has their baked in sound, but most can get pretty much the same thing going. I say it all the time, time spent with your gear, is far more important than the gear you have.

    The real proof of purpose is using the gear in a live band setting. At higher volumes which one delivers the tone you want.

      Exactly. Higher volumes, the V4b all day

    How about into a pair of 112AV cabs, where the micro would do about 260 watts, vs the V4B?

    Are you playing a specific song from around 1 minute to the 1 minute 20 seconds mark (you repeat the riff again around 1:50-2 minutes)? It sounds really familiar. Anyway, great comparison, it might have convinced me to buy a vr.

    the micro thru the 112 sounds very similar to the new RB series IMO.

    • @freebass87
      @freebass87  Год назад +2

      Yeah, it does actually. Except the micro is a little more inherently gritty/raw, and the new RBs are a little more smooth all around.

    The Micro is twice as powerful as the turd that is the V4B. The V4 might have tone, but is WOEFULLY under powered by today's standards. Unless you like muddy, highly compressed, no bottom fuzz.
