    Floor Jansen doesn't play an instrument , Robert Plant doesn't play an instrument , Saiki doesn't play an instrument , Tatania Shmayluk doesn't play an instrument , Anthony Kiedis doesn't play an instrument - AND YET they are all an integral part of their respective bands - so why are Su , Moa and Momo any different ? 🤷‍♂

      @JLVTar День назад +2

      Exactly! Bruce Dickinson doesn't play instruments on stage, he's still Iron Maiden. He knows *how* to play them, just like Su, Moa, and Momo; it's just not part of these performances.

    That was a joy to watch 😄 As is watching "Road of Resistance" live at Legend MM, Momometal´s birthday party, spanning over two evenings😉 She became 21 the evening after this. Frikkin´ amazing concert! She is the one (mostly) on the left side of the stage.
    Ah, yeah, the "band" thing... the ladies call themselves "Metal Dance Unit", which is very accurate, IMHO. They know very well that they are not a "band" in the classic sense. They are one of a kind, at least in the Metal scene. They have their very own musicians though. The Kami Band. These guys are like the orchestras of the opera era. Quite "invisible", but an extremely vital part of every single live concert. And they absolutely kill it, every single time 😄
    If you watch some fancams from their latest US tour, you´ll see the three ladies acknowledging their musicians, as well as having fun with them on stage. They obviously count their musicians as a part of the whole, their stage team as well, and they count their crowds as a part of the whole, too. BABYMETAL crowds, the Japanese crowds in particular, are simply awesome. You should see the massive Wall of Deaths happening here and there, when "Road of Resistance" is performed. I experienced one myself, last year 😁
    Every hardcore BABYMETAL fan knows the real names of all the Kami Band members, including all the Japanese Kami Band members. So I would see them as a "band", but in a very different way as we were used to.
    Try rah2287´s recommendation "Monochrome" next 😉

    Nice one! This song has been Babymetal’s staple show closer for a decade! I had the pleasure of experiencing this live a few weeks ago, and it is absolutely amazing.
    Remember, Babymetal fused J-Pop and Metal. They do this musically and in “culture”. Most Pop acts are just the singer/performers with generic backing band or music over track.
    Babymetal are just the 3 girls, but they have a stable line up of top session musicians to form the Kami Band that backs them for all their live.

    Best way to describe the BM live experience is simply Team Babymetal. That's as much what Su-metal is triumphantly shouting "We are..." about. It's the female-fronted trio who tirelessly perform the songs; the Kami Band (both East & West Kamis) who play the music live; Kobametal & his team of songwriters-producers-musicians who penned & arranged the tunes in the studio; Mikikometal who created the dance choreography; Hidefumi "5th Kami" Usami the sound 'manipulator' at the live mixing console; TARKS the costume designer; assorted graphic & T-shirt designers.
    It's also the backstage crew, comprising about 15 people when on the road (only 4-5 are from Japan including tour manager/translator/personal handlers/videographer); but hordes more seconded personnel & freelancers for the big-budget concerts in Japan: i.e. the masked Babybones & Sisterbones troupers taking on various roles onstage & downstage; stylists & wardrobe assistants; lightning technicians, set designers, stage builders & roadies; MV film crews & video editors, etc. who work on the different phases of the creative process.
    Most of all, the audience is always treated as part of Team Babymetal as well. Every attendee at BM's own gigs (whether at 3,000-sized livehouses, 10,000-sized indoor arenas, 20,000-sized expo/"messe" venues, 55,000-sized stadium) turn up with a single-minded purpose: i.e. taking part in the crowd-participation bits as enthusiastic as possible, so as to (paraphrasing a lyric from 2013's 'Headbanger') "I etch in my heart / This special night of my [life milestone]."
    It's a mob fervor a growing number of their overseas gigs have successfully reenacted. For this past half-year alone, check out the close-up crowd fancams in Singapore, several US shows, etc. as well as the insane fan frenzy at several European music festivals; plus most unforgettably, the astonishing Brazilian audience in Sao Paulo.

    Excellent reaction. 'Road of Resistance' is a very positive song, it isn't the usual "resist the machine or the system etc" that we might expect from the title. It is about forging your own road even where a road doesn't already exist, not necessarily going the easy way or following the path already made by somebody else, so if the way you want to go has never been trodden you may have to get past the resistance of the undergrowth, obstacles, hurdles and things blocking your way etc to find your own way.
    It could easily be used to describe BABYMETAL's own story - they could have followed the well trodden path of J-Pop and been very successful, but they chose to go with Metal ... but again they didn't just follow the same old format of every other metal band, they have done it their own way and it hasn't always been an easy route to follow.
    Don't worry about technicalities, BABYMETAL just do things differently and don't follow the same formulas as most bands for the last 50 or 60 years. Having said that, how many bands have a singer who doesn't play an instrument? BABYMETAL has 3 and they perform interpretive choreography as well.
    The Kami Band may officially not be BABYMETAL, but they are an integral part of the live concerts, which is what BABYMETAL are really all about. They are also pretty much as permanent as the instrumentalists in other bands.
    The Kami Band of the East (the Japanese musicians) had the same hard core of 5 or 6 musicians for most shows from 2012 (full time support from 2014) to Jan 2023.
    The Kami Band of the West has been the same 2 guitarists and drummer and only the bassist has swapped out depending on availability since 2019.
    When Su is calling "We are" and getting the answer "BABYMETAL" at the end of shows, she means everybody there, the girls, the Kami Band, the lighting, sound and stage crews and everybody in the audience - everybody is part of The One.

  • @LucBourlier
    @LucBourlier 2 дня назад +5

    Technically, Babymetal is the 3 young women. The nomenclature is something like : metal singing and dancing girl unit.
    SU-METAL instrument is her voice. And her dancing. She has a lightened load while singing, to be able to keep the mic up, but she is still moving more than 99.9% of the other performing artists.
    MOAMETAL and MOMOMETAL are scream-leaders and dancers. They guide the audience actions (in Japan, audience are normally quiet during performance, by respect for the artist) and illustrate the songs.
    The dances are interpretive choreographies, not just moving hips left and right. (I still don't understand how they do the fall in Doki Doki Morning ...)
    On the production side, KOBAMETAL is the instigator of the group, and the producer.
    MIKIKOMETAL is a recognized Japanese choreographer, and has work with Babymetal since the beginning.
    The lyrics and music writers are a fairly stable set, led by KOBAMETAL.
    The light designer has been them since the early large shows.
    And more people behind the scene.
    This is Babymetal as a production unit.
    Then comes the Kami Band, which are two sets (east and west) of professional session musicians which are backing the girls during the live shows.
    With them, it becomes 'on stage' Babymetal.
    To complete the live shows, you have the audience. It is an integral part of the show.
    Guided by YUIMETAL, MOAMETAL and MOMOMETAL, we learned our parts for the show, and added even more by ourselves.
    It is fun to see the audience part growing and evolving over the years.
    I not sure you noticed, but in the video, the audience starts the 'oh-oh-oh' without any trigger by the girls. It is our part in the song, we just sing it. We even try to keep the right tempo when we are alone without the music 😊.
    All together, you get 'live show' Babymetal.
    And finally you have The One. It groups everything revolving around Babymetal. From the girls, to the production team, to the fan base.
    The song The One celebrates this.
    🦊🤘

    This song still remains a classic one at BM's live shows, and the most famous official live video is from Saitama Super Arena in 2015, featuring the original three. I don't really like fast metal, so I don't usually comment much on this song, but I'm glad you chose this performance video by the new BM.
    'BABYMETAL' only refers to the three ladies in the front. The band behind them is a live only band, 'Kami (Gods) Band'. Originally made up of Japanese session musicians from metal or jazz sence, but over the last few years they've become 'The Western Kami Band'. The sound in this song played by Western Kamis is new and I think it will be fresh and good for the fans. Thank you from Japan.

  • @robote7679
    @robote7679 4 дня назад +5

    A really delightful reaction and yeah-Babymetal are just the three women. But with one personnel change in 14 years they have been powerfully backed by just two "bands". The OG Kami Band of the East, featuring some of Japan's finest metal musicians. And for the last few years the Kami Band of the West featuring all North American musicians. I would also suggest that Babymetal is not just about whose in the band or some such. But it is about the whole experience. From the ladies, instrumentalists, lighting and pyro people the stage designers, choreographer and always the audience.
    Babymetal are legendary for their live performances which have always had a powerful, almost hypnotic connection on the audience. Amply-I believe-demonstrated in this performance. And another thing you commented on is the vibe. Babymetal really don't do angst-though there have been very tough times for them. In which they have always fought through. Their positivity is infectious. I would suggest not getting too hung up on logistical minutia and simply enjoy the experience. It really is like no other.

    About the "band" or "not a band" topic.
    "Band", "group", "unit", "association", "troupe",... it's just terminology. In both the languages I'm a native speaker of (not English), we mainly use the equivalent term of "group" to refer to a "classic" rock or metal "band". We also use the equivalent for "band" but it also has a derogatory connotation, similar to "gang".
    I mean, the Kami Band is their live band and isn't technically part of BABYMETAL. But it's also an integral part of their live shows and that's what we can call their "core business".
    We have discussed this topic many times and (in English terminology and meaning) I would call them a "metal dance unit", technically.
    Also, when the show ends and Su-metal says "We are!?" (like in this video) she tends to do a movement with her arm to include the musicians. To me, that's what counts.
    Until next time!

      I have had this argument before and I will continue to have it 😅 I strongly disagree with the term 'metal dance unit' to describe Babymetal. If I told 100 people who didn't know who Babymetal was, that they were a metal dance unit, I guarantee every one of them would think they just danced around to metal music. And they would immediately lose interest and walk away. I know I certainly would if it was described to me that way.

    • @road-runner
      @road-runner 5 дней назад +3

      @@jeffschreifels8651 Well, as I mentioned it's just a terminology matter. I would actually call them "metal group" in my native languages (for the reasons I pointed out). "Unit" sounds more neutral to me, so, I used it (but I'm probably wrong about that because I don't know if the word has some other connotations in English).
      So, would you use the term band instead? Maybe a metal band with a dance aspect?

    • @jeffschreifels8651
      @jeffschreifels8651 5 дней назад +3

      @road-runner it's not easy to describe them. I refer to them as a band because I see the girls and the Kami band as one unit but that is technically incorrect if course. Maybe group is better but I'm not sure. The term, metal dance unit, only describes half the story. It ignores the vocals or at least makes it seem secondary.

      BM is a metal band as much as The Prodigy is a EDM band (despite Liam Howlett being its only musician, & yet explained away as its 'musical mastermind').

  • @jjs2351
    @jjs2351 День назад +1

    Yes, it is different, but Babymetal IS the three girls, not the band. However, the "Kami band" which is the musicians, are a huge part of it, of course. I've been loving Babymetal for 10 years now, they are ADDICTIVE.

  • @jeffschreifels8651
    @jeffschreifels8651 5 дней назад +5

    Babymetal were originally a subunit of an Idol group called Sakura Gakuin. Idol groups generally do not have live bands and neither did Sakura Gakuin/Babymetal. Later, when Babymetal became an independent act, they acquired the live band named the Kami Band. Because the band came later and because of Babymetal lore, the Kami band is not technically part of Babymetal. If that makes any sense the way I described it, haha. It's probably easiest to just think of them as a group instead of a band. That is by far the best way to describe what Babymetal is.

  • @ralfklonowski3740
    @ralfklonowski3740 2 дня назад

    There is Babymetal itself: The three girls/young women
    When performing live, they have the Kami band behind them, highly qualified session musicians that are technically not part of Babymetal. They are in theory exchangable and that has to an extent actually happened.
    Then there is the wider project that includes the team off the stage. First and foremost their producer and their choreographer, both of them on board since the beginning. Producer Koba-metal actually invented the concept of blending J-Pop and metal that still is the core of Babymetal. If you want to call the whole thing a fabricated industry plant that is technically speaking correct. But they have been around for over ten years now, and that would not have happened without the hard work, incredible talent and delightful personalities of Su, Moa and Momo (and Yui in the early years). They are, as another reactor put it, the selling point. Anyone who doesn't like them is free to do so while we others enjoy life changing music.

    Babymetal is just the 3 girls their vocals are their instruments, they all can play instruments but they are there to sing dance and entertain that is their main focus, the most important part of any great band is the lyrics and the vocalist that can deliver clear and powerful vocals and not be drowned out or over powered by the instruments, without the vocalist they would be a orchestra not a band

    Technically BabyMetal is Group Just Su The main Singer/dancer, Moa The Dancer/BackingVocals and MoMo The dancer/BackingVocals But as Metal song can't be done without instruments Drum,Guitar,Bass. The Girls always have people playing instrument on their show so This basically Make BabyMetal be a Band but this happen with all Bands in the world if you take away the members playng the instrument only be the singer then you don't have a Band, The thing is BabyMetal is different from A 'Normal' Band and a 'Normal' Group, BabyMetal is in between the two, So if you think BabyMetal is A group i can understand But if you say that BabyMetal is a Band i also can understand.But i personally think if Su The Main singer Quit BabyMetal then We don't have BabyMetal No more, She is the Pillar of BabyMetal Like What happen with LinkinPark after Chester

    Ozzy Osborne doesn't play an instrument, he's been touring 40 + years without being in a band. Nine Inch Nails is Trent Reznor, it's not a band. He tours with a group of musicians but Trent is the only one in the band. What Babymetal does isn't common, but others do it too. Why are Su, Moa, and Momo the only ones who get flak?

    Enjoy your genuine reactions. I would like to recommend another big Japanese band called "Wagakki Band". They formed the group in 2013 to revitalize interest in their cultural heritage by fusing modern rock/metal with traditional instruments. You seem to have a broad music taste, so I'm not sure what kind of song to suggest. Here's an energetic and upbeat song, "Yuki kagebooshi" (Shadows of snow): ruclips.net/video/B0vt3FuOmS0/видео.html (live in 2018)
