      Some of this footage is a snippet out of our VSG1003 service video, which was the base for pictures in our TM1003 NV4500 Service Manual. Glad you enjoyed!

    Why were the later main shafts changed to a slip fit for the hub, bearing race and 5th gear?

      @TorqueKingTV  11 месяцев назад

      There's a few reasons. Some of the special tools are no longer required for service, machined tolerances can be less precise, and all the aftermarket parts don't necessarily line up the way OE parts did.
      An example would be installing or removing the mainshaft assembly. Gear spacing is not as precise on the aftermarket countershafts, so in most cases the rear bearing needs to be removed from the mainshaft to get the wiggle room for assembly removal and installation.

    Can you take a GM 2wd NV4500 and change it to 4wd? What all would need to be replaced. Plane on rebuilding anyways.

      Yes, change mainshaft and rear housing. Note that you could use either GM or Dodge parts to match your transfer case if needed. * changing to Dodge parts would also require matching 5th gears, all other parts are interchangeable.

      @@TorqueKingTV THANKS well am DEALING WITH a small issue trying to get replacement internal TRANSFER CASE shaft SEALS. And dealership wants U to buy complete case just for two $20 seals. There asking $5500 for the case what do you think. I say replace gear oil with packed-in high temperature grease. Instead of gear oil. Purpose of seals separate gear oil from mixing with transmission fluid. Transfer case has only gears.

      @@SONSTHREESIXTY Sounds like typical dealer games. You can pop the seals out and get a number off them, they are probably common.

    Is the big gear supposed to be all gritty spinning it freely? It goes away moving the shift collar… but I don’t remember it being all crunchy spinning freely 🫤

      I put a white mark on all the parts saying all faces input shaft. Took it out spun it got everything back in case and I think I gotta pull it once again. Cause nothing wants to turn 😂😢
