I would really love a detailed video of the re assembly. I plan on rebuilding mine and have looked some kits from this company. Awesome video BTW!!
Thank you! We should have a detailed re-assembly video within the following months.
I also am looking forward to that video and a parts list to fix the 3rd gear shift prices and availability would be great as well...im in alberta canada do you ship to canada?
“She bit me!”
Felt that on so many levels lol
Can’t wait for the Assembly video!
Hi- we do have a Video Service Guide that gets way more in depth than our RUclips series. That is a VSG1003, and we also have a TM1003 service manual.

I'm going to rebuild my nv4500 myself because every shop I called said $1,850 swap mine for theirs and they do not fully rebuild them only change what is bad in them...... I don't trust their judgment when a full rebuild kit is available from $150 in eBay up to $950 from torque king for quality parts . I will still save almost half doing it myself with quality parts
You got the link for that 150 rebuild kit?
I love the dragnet reference
Great video!
I need a full rebuild kit countershaft input and main plus gears.
We should have all that in stock, you can see various options at torqueking.com
Snap rings come off easy if you use the right size tool. And for the camera, calm down with moving with his hands each time to set something down and zoom out just a touch till need a close up. Good explanation of trans.
Thank you for the input.
Bet it’s loud as hell without that orange nylon ring asking for a friend
LOL!
I need to rebuilt my chev truck trainy, could I get you all to build the shafts so I can just drop them in?
Too much can go wrong in shipping for us to do that. Packing material would get in bearings, and syncro struts would pop out.
I have an nv4500 when after being/driving in 5th when I try to downshift or go to neutral then put it into gear, it won't go into any gear. I will finally get it into a gear, any gear other than 5th and then all 4 forward gear will engage. It has also started to get really difficult to put into reverse. Any thoughs? I am hoping it is a shift fork, shift rod, or something in the cover I can replace without droping the transmission.
Unless you have a truck with removable transmission tunnel, the trans will have to come out to do much of anything. You could start with a shift tower as that can be done in the cab.
It is more likely to be something in the shift cover itself. Gunk can build up and start to jam the shift interlocks or cause wear to the shift rail guides. Sometimes the 5th shift rail or rail guide in the main housing can cause issues, but that is usually local to 5th and reverse.
Something else that has been done that I can't "officially" recommend is run sea foam or similar cleaner through it at idle for 5 minutes or so when the transmission is warmed up. It may or may not work and is pricey with the oil change required but the transmission doesn't need to come out.
Also keep in mind the "average" service life between rebuilds is about 150k miles for an NV4500 behind a diesel or a little more than that for gas. If you are close to that it may be time to schedule the truck to be down a few days to freshen the whole thing up.
@@TorqueKingTV Thank you for answering posted questions and the detailed videos. I’ll be pulling my NV4500 soon because last week it started doing something similar. It sticks in 5th, at first a little extra tug would pop it out but now it really sticks. Yanking the lever back causes the shifter to go to neutral but the XSMN is still in 5th. Removing the shifter and using a pry bar has been successful, the second time it happened I found if I simultaneously use a large screwdriver to push 3-4 shift rail forward then 5th will release a lot easier.
nobody ever covers detailed inspection of shift collar wear or points on syncros
So is it possible to replace the 3rd gear synchro without pulling the main shaft out of the case?
It could be a bit challenging, but theoretically yes.
i have one to rebuild. Where can I get the T-1003 manual? Mine is a basket case.
Hi! the manual can be found here -------> torqueking.com/product/771003/tm1003-shop-manual-for-new-venture-nv4500-5-speed-transmissions/
I bought a 2wd gm nv4500 and I’m looking on your site for a 4wd main shaft. Is that all I need to convert to 4wd aside from the tcase adapter? I’m looking into putting either my old np205 or my np241 in my 91 burb. I’m also gonna purchase a seal and bearing kit
Hi- The 4x4 mainshaft and output housing is all you need to convert the transmission. Both the 205 and 241 will need to have matching input shafts/ couplers but we have solutions for either one. Give us a call anytime, 406-384-0270.
@@TorqueKingTV alrighty thank you. I didn’t see the tcase adapters but I’ll look again. I wish there were more support for the nv4500. I almost sold everything to grab tko 5 speed……… have you ever thought of a possible t56 adapter for 4 wheels drive? Idk if it’s possible but it looks like there is a way with machines I do not have lol
Can I send a 4×4 core for a 2wd rebuild
We don't do service outside of our internal research and service videos, but Long Range Gear in Washington does excellent work.
What would cause my transmission to not go in the reverse position?
It's hard to say without getting in there, but it could be top cover or shift tower related as those components wear out over time.
@@TorqueKingTV I had the transmission rebuild and they said they put a new top cover on it and then the transmission wouldn’t go in the reverse position. They pulled the covid card when I asked them to fix it. I have the top cover off and the tail housing off. It would go into 5th gear position but it was basically another neutral. The nut was on there and tight with the aftermarket 5th gear but.
@@tomalexander7313 they probably forgot to put the roll pin in the 5th/reverse fork or the roll pin in the dog that engages the bottom of the lever. You can check this with the cover off, and you can also make sure the 5th gear pawl on the inside of the case has it's roll pin too.
Great video!!
Glad you enjoyed it. We should have an assembly series, in the following months.
