For the benefit of those who do not know much about the Benin kingdom and her king, the Oba of Benin was a seasoned diplomat and he understand that a genuine mistake as submitted by Akpata that he is a son of the palace in an election season could be misinterpreted by all that he is the choice of the palace and therefore the people. The correction was made and Akpata apologized. There was nothing else to it.

Oba of Benin confirmed he's true son of the soil and that enough proved him to be son of the palace. Palace belongs to every indigene of that town/kingdom. Oba of Benin is well versed in culture. The whole issue is that traditional rulers and the palace are not expected to participate in politics so oba clearly explained why he called him son of the soil instead of son of the palace.

We have had enough of non indigenes and sons of the state ruin our state! We are sensitive in this matter and carefully about who will have the interest of the state at heart!
So one of the criteria is making sure a candidate is rooted in the core values , principles and interest of the Edo people , part of which includes understanding the language, history and culture of the state that you intend to lead as it is done in America , England , France and even in the North and Northeast Nigeria and others!
You can’t be a Lagosian and want to lead Edo to greatness. If you can’t speak any of the Edo language fluently you won’t understand the people or take them to heart, other things are also important outside the language ! My opinion.

I am pretty sure Akpata and entourage only intended to notify the Oba of his intention to commence his campaign for the office of the governor as a courtesy and not to seek endorsement. I don't think the clarification of 'son of the palace' was necessary but I guess the Oba felt the need to dispell any possible misinterpretation by mischieve makers. It's well. It would have been seen as a slight if Apkata has proceeded to flag off his campaign without paying a visit to the Palace. The taste of the pudding is in the eating. Apkata should go straight to the grass roots and state his manifesto and how he intends to implement it.
