You may notice that in the background you can hear that director Steve Barron is viewing the censored German version with cartoon sound effects placed in the fight scenes. This version however syncs up to the uncut version.

"While we were making the film, the turtles just grew and grew in popularity". Literally the only reason we got anything this mature and thoughtful. The fact that the money men didn't give much of a shit about this movie is how it turned out so well. I think Turtles 2 pretty much proves that if there was a roadmap on the property's popularity, this would probably have been a studio interference mess.
