- Morey's Piers have had many different kinds of rides in it's history. One ride that was removed in the 1980s is somehow still around...abandoned and rotting away!!
We found out where it's located and took our camera film what it looks like.

Would you like answers to your questions? We own the Marina which you were touring. Note that the UFO was brought here as a Clam bar (never a gift shop). It was sold to someone to actually restore it back to a home on the Hudson River. That project was never completed and it sold again. The shad cabin is a monument for Goose Goslin who was a professional baseball player that used to fish at the bayside cabin. The “pods” you saw were owned by someone that wanted to store them here to turn into a home. They were previously an office building. Look up pod homes and you’ll see some really cool creations in California. The other cool thing to note is that there is an awesome Restaurant and outdoor boat bar on the Marina Property called the Bait Box (open Seasonally). Thanks for visiting. Would have been great to provide you the tour.
Note as well... the “wrecking ball” is a mourning bouy. The tower is an entrance marker to the Cohansey River. The big nest on top is From the Osprey that come each year to nest and have their babies. The float is a container ship raft that was found...not that old and just chewed up a bit. There is so much history down here.....
Thanks for explaining everything. I’ve eaten at the bait box several times over the years and the food has always been excellent. I knew I saw those pods before so it must have been when I was at the bait box. Do you know where they were set up as an office building? Thanks!
Thank you
I’m almost 50 from Philly and Wildwood is just as much a home to me. Of all the rides I’ve ever been on in my life from WW to Disney, nothing ever got me as excited as that Star Wars ride. Morey’s really did a fantastic job. As I recall, sitting in that space ship was the introductory part of the experience that included a character speaking from a glass booth within the ship. It was always extra exciting if Darth Vader was featured. It was followed by an elaborate walk-through that included a lighted hallway with a people-moving conveyor belt that never seemed to work. There was also a ladder climbing portion through a cave if memory serves. The grand finale was the spinning doors. Loved it so much!
My friends and I worked that ride in summer 1981, in costume. best summer of all!
Wow ,thank you for those great memory , I ride this when I was 8 year old , first as the planet of the ape. The ride ,as i remember, going as you taking place in the spaceship and in the middle there some captain explain us the mission we will make...and then the light come off we ear struggle and when the light came back theres an ape taking place of the captain, telling us we are prisonner , they walk us out by some kind of small corridor ,all in fake rock ,whit some ape hiding in the alcove and hole in wall to jumpscare us ,thats what i remember . One or two years after the same ride was convert as star wars whit the same gig. The rebel captain was replace this time by dart vador and the stormtrooper was hiding in same spot as the ape ...
Thank you so much for all those good video and memory you bring back , that gonna sound weird for some people but , the year passing I travel the world ,good memory from everywhere , but my best time EVER was in wilwood
I'm pretty sure it was Planet of the Apes first, Star Wars wasn't released until 1977. Great video, thanks!
I recall it as Planet of the Apes first too -- I recall character actors walking around the pier in the ape costumes and I was pretty young and scared to death of them!
+1000! I remember when that ride was built in the early 70s and it was definitely planet of the apes! I also remember the first year of King Kong! That was the ride all of us kids talked about when it opened.
Look up a RUclips video titled Wildwood boardwalk 1974 and you will see the planet of the apes ride along with the King Kong ride. I just looked it up and the ride was originally called “Star Trek, Journey to the Planet of the Apes”, and was changed to Star Wars in 1978. He showed it as if Star Trek and plantet of the apes were two different rides but it wasn’t. Read the sign when he shows Star Wars, and you will see “journey to the planet of the apes on the sign. When he shows the planet of the apes ride look to the left and you will see the same “Star Trek, journey to the planet of the Apes” sign.
I love any history concerning boardwalk memorabilia...Thankyou for exploring and sharing it with us 🤗
I love The history videos of Wildwood! You find a lot of interesting things to show us, thank you for all your hard work! Really enjoyed the video!
I grew up in the late 1960s and early 1970s in Cape May County. I remember this thing well. It was an amazing era there. Thanks!
You're part right on your history. First it was the Star Trek ride. Then it was Star Trek / Planet of the Apes. (Concept being The Enterprise lands on Planet of the Apes and gets taken over by said Apes, where you were then led thru a creepy PotA's walk-thru). Then Star Wars etc. All in line with the chronology of these shows/movies through the 70s / very early 80s.
Awesome video as always thank you I love being a patron I hope others will do the same your videos are so good and show me things about Wildwood I never knew and I have been going to Wildwood for over 40 years. Thank you and take care
Thank you again for being a patron! It's because of you that I am able to spend a crazy amount of time researching!!! Please stay safe!
Hey Joey, thank you for taking us into your adventures, it’s fun! That looks like a ride , do find out what it is I’m curious now. Thank you 😊
no problem! As soon as I find out I will let everyone know!
@@WildwoodVideoArchive I got no idea what those house things are
Those parts of something at the end remind me of something that would be at the 1964 worlds fair
right!!!! That's what I was thinking!! It has to be out of the 1960s!
Agree or could be from the Montreal Expo in late 60s or early 70s. They had buildings that looked something like these structures.
This is so awesome! I rode that ride when it was the original Star Wars and The Planet of The Apes. Not sure, pls tell me if I'm right, I think it was Planet of The Apes first. I remember boarding the ride n sitting in the dark and a little booth inside lit up and a person dressed as an ape from the movie was in there talking to us explaining our impending doom or something of that nature! I can't believe u jogged that from my memory! It was so long ago and I actually forgot about it. Thanks so much for some of my fondest memories brought back through your videos Joey!!!❤😎👍
I was thinking the same thing, because I have pictures of myself as a baby I’m front of the planet of the apes ride. And I distinctly remember riding the Star Wars ride and it scaring the crap out of me because the ride stopped, and Darth Vader and the storm troopers boarded the ship and escorted all of us off the ride. But let’s see what Joey says.
Planet of the Apes was first.
+1! Planet of the apes was definitely first!
I'd love nothing more than to see that thing rolling around all of Cape May during a hurricane!
6:05 - looks like the set for 'Shutter Island' lol! Is that DiCaprio peeking through one of the windows? 🤣
The tower is an anti- aircraft gun tower from WWII. We have them in Va Beach. As for the ride, I went on it when I was a kid. I was really young, but it was Star Trek first. It was long before Star Wars came out. Anyway, you went in and it was like you were on the bridge of the Enterprise and compartments along the wall lit up and the crew standing in the compartments in star trek uniforms but were now apes. It was like they were in space hibernation and woke up as apes. They chased you and you walk through some kind of cave area, where the floor was squishy. Vague I know but it was very dark and I was so little. It was amazing though.
Looks a little like the Jupiter II from Lost in Space. I remember it as a ride on the pier, for sure. Thanks for the history!
That’s cool to see this. I remember being in it for the Planet of the Apes ride. Thanks for making the video.
Love the history videos!
Glad you like them!
I remember going on the star wars ride with my family growing up. Thank you for the memories I was wondering about that ride.
Any time!
Keep up the great work joey love the history
Thanks! Will do!
Dude, those square pieces are actually what is left of the house for the future from Disneyland
Thanks for the video.
You do Awesome work.
I appreciate that!
Great video! We love finding futuro homes. We have done videos on futuro homes that we have found in Texas and Florida. The one we found in Florida sits on top of a "Step Club" and is used as their VIP room. We have yet to locate one that has been fully restored. This is the first time we have seen one used at an amusement park! The other fiberglass"Cubes" look like they could have been the remains of "Monsanto's House of the Future" which used to be an attraction at Disneyland in California. Great Job! Thanks, We just subscribed!
Plaque outside the fishing floating cabin talks about Allen 'Goose ' Goslin, the baseball player. I believe he owned a fishing boat company and the cabin was one of his floating fishing cabins.
I've driven past this in Greenwich. Very cool. I didn't know it was from Morey's.
Interesting video Joey. I do remember the Star War attraction being reincarnated several times. Good luck finding out what the other things might be. Thanks for the rainy day report.
Hey Bill! Glad you enjoyed my video! I hope to figure out what they are soon!
I was just there on Sunday! Ate lunch at the Bait Box restaurant.
I remember that ride well and all of its recreations, also my cousins own summer homes not far from that marina at Sea Breeze
awesome!!!
Thank you! Cheers!
Ugly day was an understatement, but interesting content with more questions to be answered. May the "source" be with you !! LOL
Childhood memories
:-)
Thats crazy I forgot about that ride until this video....
hhaha right!! I thought the same thing!
I remember the ride as planet of the apes I loved that ride as a little kid , that ride and the haunted house I think was on the same pier , that they had at the time , were my favorite attractions on the board walk as a kid , well that and the fudge shops . I never thought I'd get to see the inside of that thing again , thanks for showing it , I spent a fair amount of time inside of it going around and around . Planet of the apes had a fun house attached to it when you exited the ship you walked through the fun house , I am not sure , those box things look familiar to me as well I wonder if they weren't part of planet of the apes ?
The haunted house was right next to this ride
Cool video.
I remember seeing a Futuro building that was being used as a sub shop. It was on Rt 1 (City Line Avenue) near West Chester Pike in the early 70s. Philadelphia flashback.
ahhaha really?
Cool ride
Connected to it elsewhere. Whew. Oh, the memories. Essentially, you boarded the ship, it spun slowly, stopped, then a character in a cheap costume told you to move out into a ride building (may have been under the boards, I don’t remember). You walked past various papier-mâché Apes/Trek/SW tableaux before stepping onto the rotating base of the “transporter”, which deposited you back on Earth.
Disney? Oh, hell no. Fun? Yes, especially depending on who was on duty as a Stormtrooper or Jawa.
(True story: Poor 6’ guy was playing the Jawa on one shift and when it came time for us to debark into the ride building, he walked in, smacked the rail surrounding the central “power core” with some kind of baton, yelled “MOVE!” and exited. It must be 30 years since that happened and the friends who rode with me still remember it.)
First! That is epic, great find Joey! I remember the ufo it as a star wars ride for one year, and planet if the apes another, I have photos I will have to send to you when I find them.
Very cool!! Please shoot them my way. I can't find any footage from this sadly
Hey Joey I love ocean city rides
That area looks a lot like Marylands Eastern Shore. It's basically a continuation of it. Right down to the work boats.
The tall metal object is an old buoy. Ospreys nest on top of it.
“An error occurred”? Crap! I loved the Star Wars incarnations of this ride, especially the 6’ Jawas.
The ride was originally “Star Trek, Journey to the planet of the apes” when it opened in the early 70s. It was never just Star Trek. It became Star Wars in 1978. Then it became the empire strikes back.
Seaside Heights also had one. It was on the Boardwalk at one time
Hi Joey that half of boat you showed I believe the other half is in the Bass Pro Shop Atlantic City
omg really? Do you have a photo of it? I would love to compare!
@@WildwoodVideoArchive
No but I will be there Thursdays and I will txt you a picture
@@WildwoodVideoArchive No, the other half is not in Atlantic City....it’s in the trash.
That ride was on Morey's Pier when it had only about five rides. They had the giant slide, the Zipper, Haunted House, a double ferris wheel, and that Star Wars/Planet Of The Apes ride.
yes yes and yes!
I would love to buy it and live in it!!!
Awesome! Road that ride during all three incarnations. Once during the planet of the apes a cast member scared my aunt Ester to death while waiting for us kids outside the ride. Good times. Thanks Joey.
haha! That sounds like you guys had a great time!!
Wow , same here whit my mom , its after being in the space ship , they make us exit by some corridor ,all in rock replica style cave , and in a alcove there someone disguise as an ape jump scare my mom ...i think i was 8 or around that , still remember
Yes! I went on the Planet of the Apes ride like every night!
There is a perfectly intact one at Hudson Fields in Milton, DE. It's available for rent.
I remember that ride was cool back then
which version did you like better?
You wonder where old rides go...to the place of old toys?
Haha
Hey Joey interesting video I guess I don't remember that ride was young and my mom was to busy putting me in all of the baby parades lol and we had a summer home somewhere else
I'm glad you enjoyed it! And I bet the Baby Parades were more fun!
Cute umbrella ☔️
hahahah thank you!
God what memories I have of that thi g when it was starwars
Green Wich NJ??? Perhaps Gren-itch?? It's a town in Cumberland County on the Delaware. There are a lot of these little lost towns on the Delaware that no one pays attention to....
haha yes your correct. I no good with english!
The locals call it green witch
Is the Bait Box still open for business? Used to eat there a couple of times a year. Always seemed to go around green head time too.🦟
as far as I know it is
Good video. At 6:30 , not a wrecking ball . Old mooring ball for ships .
ahhh. thanks for the info!
I was in it when it was planet of the apes early 70s I thought someone bought this to make a small restaurant out of it I seen a video it was a wildwood junk yard that had all theses rides in it the old hunts pier flyer coaster cars and this was also laying in this junk yard I’m still trying to find this place
1968, Wildwood Crest, near Hollywood ave, a 30 foot castle used as a residence? Anyone remember this? I believe it was connected to the military.
Hi, Joey. Love your content! But are you sure about the timeline of the rides? We vacationed every year in the 70s when I was a kid and I went on those rides. I really believe Star Trek or Planet of the Apes was first, then the Star Wars rides IIRC. The Empire movie came out in 1980 so I really think Star Trek (based on the original series from the 60s) and especially Planet of the Apes would have been there in the early 80s
Hey Joey did you know playland castaway cove catch on fire
Hey Joey do you have amusement rides videos
Wow Joey that awesome Joey where did you find that in wildwood
Thank you! This is located in Greenwich NJ
😀😀😀😀
Don't know if it is the exact one, but Disney had a future home of that model, in the 60's
hey! That was the Monsanto House of the Future. Very different but as cool.
That looks like Walt Disney's House of The Future. They all fit together to make a large "+" sign. Perhaps it is the original from Walt's original 1960's Disneyland!
right!!! The difference is that they are a big smaller
those weird end pieces bring to mind the disneyland monsanto house of the future, but the shape isnt right. Its similar to a "Six shell bubble house", but those seem to be taller windows then these wide ones
OMG yes!!! That's what it reminded me of when I saw them but Disneyland's was a bit wider.
Possibly parts of the adjoining Planet of the Apes ride? Or even the Posideon Adventure ride.
Hey joey u remember the big monkey that used to stand out front of islander family fun park if u are woundering what happened to it.it is up in shamong on rt.206 if u end up going up there thair is a little place you must stop on the way there if open or on the way back called the pic a lily inn and bar you gotta get the wings they have they are the best wings or a burger they are the best you will ever eat people are very friendly great service u will not be disappointed there is also alot of history in that area theres a ranger staion just before the pic a lily inn if u wanna get some history about the area also from what i got from them is it uaes to be an old iron ore town as u may see some of the pictures in the ranger staion if they still have them up or if there open they may or may not be
here you go! I wrote an article about it a few years ago wildwoodvideoarchive.com/wildwoods-george-the-gorilla/
At first glance, I thought that was the original Gravitron.
It was
Those odd “house pieces” at the end kind of remind me of this: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Venturo
you are right. It's just a bit smaller
They do look similar to the “homes of the future “ from Disney
The parts remind me of Taiwan's abandoned UFO Pod City
so true!
The ride itself was no great shakes, you paid a few tickets and walked inside with some blinking lights and such and did a whole lot of nothing 😂
Hey Joey can we chat about wildwood with you Joey
9:30 probably came from the worlds fair
Hey Joey can I chat with you about amusement rides on this video so you.can re to my comments
I think there phone booth from 1964 World fair
it's close but not them www.pinterest.com/pin/272678952410996482/
Hancock Harbor Marina
You got it!
What was this ride supposed to be looks like a simulator
You boarded it, the lights went low. Space age lights came on. It spun around gently while you heard captain Kirk, etc over the speakers. Then Planet of the Apes characters boarded and took you away to an adjoining walk-thru adventure.
