I have been loving Babycat Yarns, she has so many colorways and you can get any of her colorways in fingering/sock. She did a whole pallet of these tonal black yarns. I haven't bought any yet but they are dreamy. Also, a rainbow hat with the mad tosh would be so cool but also rainbow yarn in colorwork is a vibe. Watching these videos now I want to knit all the socks, I heard that yarns with a high twist are great for socks.

The rainbow madelintosh yarn would look cool as a mni shawl / scarf! Like the Laulu Shawl from Sari Nordlund. Tons of lace and cabling but also works up relatively easy bc it's a small project. I never thought I would make a shawl but it was surprisingly fun.

100% merino yarn will definitely fuzz up and you will probably lose some of the texture. It also depends on how hard you are on your socks. If you do a lot of walking fuzzing, felting and wear will happen a lot faster. Also it kinda looks like a single ply in the video if so it's not a good option for socks you will walk right through them

The non sock yarn will be okay but as it doesn’t have any nylon in it there is a chance it will break down quicker. But then I’m not sure as you are using sock yarn for the toe, heel and cuff:)
