Dude! Thanks for making how-to videos that just show what to expect on the job ahead without trying to be a talk show host! It's such a relief to not have my time wasted by someone yapping on and on when all I need is to see how this job is going to go. It's also nice that your videos are using the VT1100C, which is the bike I am working on now.
Try working on a Honda CB360 clutch :) you'll burn the bike to the ground.

Wow thanks you so much for the video. It was of a great help, i tried to figure out what i had done wrong, I watched your video and ta-da just a snap-ring !! Thanks !
Awesome video, really simplified the job by watching your video, the only thing for me was cleaning clutch case gasket surfaces, was very tedious. I noticed you didn't replace it, so did you use a gasket sealer that keeps the gasket intacked. I've had the covers off twice and replace it both times. Thanks again for a great tutorial.
Great video but may I suggest informing the viewers of what tools will be needed for each job AKA The special clutch socket you use and a link to find it????
Nice video mine is a 95 and probably overdue a rebuild on the clutch. After a long ride it gets real mushy, and it feels like it's slipping right in the power band around 3rd gear noticably.
Hi, thanks for the question! I purchased it from eBay. Here is the link www.ebay.com/itm/Honda-VT1100-Shadow-85-86-Clutch-Nut-Socket-Tool-/111586261943?hash=item19fb0f3bb7:g:6wMAAOxyDoZSIhZb You do have to tap it onto the locknut or else it will slip off.
Great video my only question what do you do if the bike is stuck in neutral? My shadow needs a new spring plate cause it won't pop back into a gear and that's why I need to get the castle nut off lol
Hey man thank you for posting this video, I have a 94 Honda shadow that I need to do a clutch rebuild on and I couldn't find any videos of my generation shadow. Do you have a link where to buy the rebuild kit? Also will I still be able to get that nut off without getting it into 1st gear? I'am unable to get it into gear at all. Thanks again man 👍
Can you tell me which goes first back onto the basket, the friction or the steel plate? I know they alternate just wondering which one goes first in the stack when you start putting them back on.
This is the socket I purchased. It is a specialty socket. www.ebay.com/itm/Honda-VT1100-Shadow-85-86-Clutch-Nut-Socket-Tool-/111586261943?hash=item19fb0f3bb7:g:6wMAAOxyDoZSIhZb
This is a 1986 shadow right? I've had mine apart and back together 50 times now and I must be doing something wrong. Does your clutch diaphragm spring have pressure against the pack when you tighten the nut down? Mine you can spin with your fingers. I must be doing something wrong. Did your clutch work after this video?
Hi, It is actually for a 1996 shadow but it should be the same. There should be some pressure on the clutch spring. It worked well after the video. Is yours not working? If so, what is it doing?
Hi, this is the socket I used. You have to buy a specialty one. www.ebay.com/itm/Honda-VT1100-Shadow-85-86-Clutch-Nut-Socket-Tool-/111586261943?hash=item19fb0f3bb7:g:6wMAAOxyDoZSIhZb
Just carefully use a flat head screwdriver. If the gasket is bad, it can take some force to get it off. You can also tap it with a rubber mallet to loosen it up.
I know this is an older video but I have a question for anyone here who has the knowledge to answer it. I purchased a Honda shadow same bike, had to do a lot of work to get it running and I go to take off and the bike will not move. I took apart everything in the video and ordered a socket to remove the nut. Now the bike is acting like the clutch is always ingaged. I think the plates are frozen together and that means with the socket on when I go to turn it to remove it just spins. What do I do please help
Hi, it could be something with your clutch slave cylinder or master cylinder. I had an issue where it was having similar troubles and it ended up being a combination of the slave cylinder and the clutch master cylinder needing to be rebuilt. I have both of those videos up on my channel. Hope it that helps!
@@ifly891 would that still apply for my situation? I have the new clutch and a slave cyld rebuild kit. I have everything taken apart but that nut holding it in. The pushrod itself is taken out too. How is the clutch still engaged
Nine times out of 10 the problem is the clutch and related parts. Everything has to be in order. If you want to do the work yourself, I recommend familiarizing yourself with the clutch system. Then take it apart and verify everything is in order. Most common cause would be the clutch slipped. Or the plate is off the assembly.

Hey man, did you soak the steel plates as well as the friction plates, or just the friction plates? Recommendations for best thing to soak them in?? Great video! Need to do a rebuild on my 86 and this is by far the best video I've found!
Hey, yeah I'm not sure why there is a discrepancy but the manual I was using actually did say first. Again, not sure why there is the difference between some manuals.
@@ifly891 Thanks, I did it in First. :) I couldn't get it into 5th. Last question, I promise (typing this covered in oil); did you get Barnett friction discs? That's what I bought for the same year and model as you have, and they sent me 5 friction discs instead of 6
@@ArlowFarrell yeah, I used the same friction plates. That's too bad they only sent five. After 96 they switched to 5 plates. I would just go with the one that looks the least worn. Look for glazing or other damage. Let me know how it turns out!
@@ifly891 they sent me another friction plate. I've got it all back together and I think I just have the lines to bleed to fix the slave cylinder. Should the bent out middle of the disc face towards the engine or away?
`REPLACE` AND `INSTALL` IS NOT THE SAME. subtitles are wrong. You kept saying `replace` but the only thing you replaced was the friction plates. You didnt replace the clutch cover by the way. But should have replaced the clutch cover gasket. :) yeah
