It is sad to lose these wonderful avian babies. I have lost many, and have vowed not to take any more in. I have two that are or will be 25 this year, and since I handraised them, I dread their final breath. I raised their mother and rescued their father from a home where he would have died soon. It is so hard because they do not show sickness until it is too late. Kiss your other one on the head, especially behind the crest, and tell him how you love him. They do understand.
Cockatiels are highly under rated IMO..I have had birds for over 30 years, currently a BFA that is 28 that came home with me when she was 4 months old. I took home a 4.5 month old normal grey teil just over a year ago and he is the sweetest, smartest, friendliest little 86g's of fluff I have ever known! He talks well...whistles his heart out to me and gives me lovies all day long
Not really. But the claim you seek to disprove itself assumes too much, as in there's a need for lips, eyebrows etc to express any kind of emotion rather than just nuancing it... Ignoring that the eyes and mouth by themselves, along with body language, can at least do a good job of conveying the more basic emotions. For example the "contented eye scrunch" seen here is pretty much universal to everything further up the chain than a fish. Cats, in particular, make much use of it. A "smiling" cat is actually pretty upset and might be about to scratch your skin off, but one giving a look more like ^_^ (also sometimes described as a slow blink, despite it possibly lasting for minutes at a time) is in 7th heaven. Let's just say birbo jr is lovin' it.
I miss my cockatiel Fiona so much. She was my little metal head bird. She used to sit on my chest for what seemed like hours, just happily receiving scratches while she chewed on my necklace. Such a sassy lady.
Jari Capa, hi. I can tell because at the end of the video you get s good look at the tail, the tail feathers are always horizontal stripes for females and no stripes for males. It's the easiest way just by looking lol. I use to breed them as a kid. Also the cheeks look female but that's hit and miss only expert's can normally tell with cheeks.
It's impossible to tell at this age unless you have them sexed genetically tested. They can all have banded tails and darker cheeks. I thought for sure my cinnamon was going to be a female when it was a chick because the head was completely grey and had a banded tail. Well now he has completely yellow face(orange cheeks) and no tail banding. We know now it's a male(13 years old) now.
My good friend is a breeder and she got married at week and while she was on her honeymoon I kept her babies. I had 7 total 3 tiels and 4 love birds. I handfed them all and was very proud of myself that I was successful and I actually kept one of the tiels. Last night for the first time since we've been tg on our own (its been 4 days since the rest of them went back home) he sat on my shoulder after his feeding (hes still on formula) and floofed and grinded his beak and had sleepy baby bird eyes and was making soft little peeps. My heart was just so full bc he was actually happy to be with me and felt safe and secure. That is everything!!!!!
My young cockatiel (around 6months) makes this same sort of sound when I scritch her. She crawls up to my chin and puts her face on mine, and makes this sound as I ruffle her neck feathers. Makes my heart melt. Often she will go to sleep like this.
hasn't mastered the OPEN BEAK FOR NOISE MAXIMATION skill yet the little fluff... Can only hope nobody mistakes it for a feather ball and tries to play badminton with it XD
Yes! This is my first time owning a tiel from being only weeks old, and it would make this noise every time I have him/her step on to my finger or when I would pet him/her! I thought it was abnormal haha. This is great🤗
Someone told me once that birds are wild animals, regardless if it was being raised with the love of its mother, or that of a human. While that remains true to conventional standards of birds and parrots out in the wild, this video is proof that the psychology of these little guys shows remarkably docile behavior in a setting entirely different from their natural habitat. I'd argue that someday, perhaps they will genuinely be considered to be domesticated. Plus these little guys just melt my heart.
You can never deny the fact these birbs look like they’re always smiling
Lol
My birb when she's angry kinda looks scarey to be honest
They do
and they dont even have muscular faces
Wish I was a birb so I could always mask my depression. 🦜
sometimes u can tell they're happy by their eyes.
and how they are moving and reacting to things
And beak
oh so cute. Please kiss it for me and give it a lot of treats
The way their cheeks puff in a certain way
The beak grinding
Protect this peep, PLEASE
Burg Bass xanx
lil peep
ok sorry
P R O T E C C
He protecc he fedd but most importantly he make me smile
If a bird has made it to have feathers like that, it’ll be fine.
OMG this baby tiel is the sweetest birb I've ever seen 😍
jessef2004 agreed
Cuteness overload, aww, chirping.
M R Koenig my bird hates me doing this =(
Not all birds are the same. They all have different personalities. Just like people.
My tiel used to make those noises when she was a baby. She used to fall asleep on my shoulder too, curled up in a feathery ball of yellow fluff. ❤
Karuminu2 awww so cute! My 7 year old cockatiel still curls up on my shoulder😍 it’s like she’s still a baby
What does that noise mean?
one of my two cockatiels died 4 days ago.. she had cancer and was 10 years old.
this video makes me smile again, thank you. :)
really sorry Miya
That's sad we got a new cockatiel 4 days ago
Lost a seven year old parakeet two weeks ago. I know how you felt.
R.i.p cocketiels 😭😭😭

*happy baby cockatiel noises*
did she die? XD lol so cringe, i am so sorry for your loss, i hope you are okay.
Awwe your birb's happiness makes me ☺ happy
i read somewhere cockatiels don't have muscles in their face so they can't smile or frown. at 1:29 this video disproves that.
The Dudemeister1006
It has a beak, its mouth isn't moving. All the emotion comes from its eyes.

My cockatiel loves that baby.
This baby knows it’s loved. Look at the happy eyes.
This is the mostest importantest video on youtube.
This is the happiest I've ever been in like 2 weeks just from watching this video, like wow. So adorable it makes my heart totally melt
Me: Mom, Dad, can I have one just like it?
Mom: No.
Dad: Your cat would eat it.
Me: :(
Magarah Tezerra it would
Magarah Tezerra and thats why i dont have cat cuz i want birb
This is why cats are bad! They eat cute birbs like this one.
A stray cat got in and killed my lovebird.

Those adorable cheeks! That smile! Those eyes! That mini crest!
My heart sings.
Awwwe! Such a sweetie. Makes me miss my Cockatiel, Phoenix. The only small parrot I wasn't afraid of.
I miss my cockatiel Fiona so much. She was my little metal head bird. She used to sit on my chest for what seemed like hours, just happily receiving scratches while she chewed on my necklace. Such a sassy lady.
You can already tell its happy by looking at its derpy little cute face.
My baby boy doesn't do this anymore. He just demands scritches now. Ahhh the good ol days
I've had 3 of these bird's. And they're extremely intelligent, loving, and they all have there own unique personalities. They're sooo adorable.
aww what a lovely female cockatiel. so sweet
Dene Danger how did you know its a female
Jari Capa, hi.
I can tell because at the end of the video you get s good look at the tail, the tail feathers are always horizontal stripes for females and no stripes for males.

TraceurDoc1 is right. All cockatiels look like females before their first molt(s).
you cant sex a cockatiel at this stage doofus XD
To me, they all look like they're smiling. Too adorable. Precious. 😄💕💞
Oh such a fluffy bird!!
Her beak looks like she's smiling!! So CUTE 😍😘
I know the feeling. I had nine tiels raised three from hatching and spent most of my time with the last one, Tweetie.
Now I only have one left.
This litterally just made my mood and day better. It wasn't bad before, but now it's great :)
I love this video so much. Its my favorite it even calmed me down during my anxiety attack. Good birb 10/10

The baby cockatiel is so cute and her peeps are adorable! It reminds me of my little baby cockatiel (may she rest in peace)
My good friend is a breeder and she got married at week and while she was on her honeymoon I kept her babies. I had 7 total 3 tiels and 4 love birds. So much cuteness going on here!
Yes! This is my first time owning a tiel from being only weeks old, and it would make this noise every time I have him/her step on to my finger or when I would pet him/her! I thought it was abnormal haha. This is great🤗

I may hand feed one soon so yay! So adorable.
My cockatiel is about a year old and still makes this noise when being pet, is this a cause for concern?
Sam yes mine do this to😊
Sam don't worry mine is 13 years old and still does this sound (a bit less squeaky) when being pet it's adorable and he gets grumpy if I stop
Mine has always done that. I've had her for close to 17 years. I'm confident it's a sign of contentment.
It is a sign of concern, as to why you STOPPED petting it. Continue with the petting.
It's like a cat purring. Happy birds like a good petting.

I watch the eyes squint in delight! 🐦
Such a sweet creature.😃
When you pet him/her I felt my heart melt 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
