Come on brother's you can't forget about New York and New Jersey with the house music brother's. We all love it big time. I been into it way back in 1971 . And I will always love that real house music. ✌️
Peace. I love this platform expressing the foundational House Renaissance that at some point has to be a full length film....(think of Love Jones) because its always been soundtrack.
so funny you mentioned Biz. my memory is a little sketchy but i remember you, me, ron trent, and kenny dope having coffee in LA and Biz randomly (i think) walking up to us. we even took some pics that i think I still have somewhere.
great interview! You know i would love to hear more about ubq project, and Aaron Smith, theres no info about that guy anywhere! The music they made was so distinctive with those swinging drums and FM chords
@19:00 props to Terry and Maurice for staying true to their sounds. Both guys have evolved in their 'textures' but the SOUL remained constant - to this day.
@17:08 one of my fondest memories of my time in the UK is from April 1995 spinning at a club in Peterborough. It was crazy enough to have mirrors on the walls of the place, but 30 mins into my set I saw that the mirrors got foggy because of the body heat generated by the dancing. One track that set the floor on fire was Zhané - "Hey Mr. D.J." (UBQ's Underground Dub). I KEPT that in my box for YEARS!
BEST HS in the City of Chicago #KenwoodAcademy Best HS in the South Suburbs #ThorntonTownshipHighSchool hands down!!! @20:50 An amazing questions!! How to continue to keep the LEGACY alive generationally....
@39:18 I TOTALLY co-sign on that one. And I have a cool memory about that track. In December of 1989 I was travelling back home on a break from technical training school in the Air Force and made my way to Scott Air Force Base, IL. I was planning to take a Greyhound bus home to Chicago (and surprising the family). Someone overheard my plans and offered me a lift home since they were actually driving to Chicago. On the drive up I heard a motherlode of House mixes and one of the tracks that stuck in my head was Master C&J - "Face It".
@16:16 this is still incredible to hear (and I've heard this story a couple of times before). Absolutely amazing to know that Terry travelled to England on the strength of his VERY FIRST record. Who does that???? And he became a regular visitor to the country every single year afterwards (not counting the covid years). Crazy dopeness!
@35:53 my 'spider sense' told me that there could be some chatter about "why didn't Maurice get the remix", but we all know that Maurice was the Official Remixer of Destiny's Child and the solo offshoots - and his Grammy win was for Beyoncé. His legacy is cemented. Terry has a Grammy nomination - his legacy is cemented. As Maurice pointed out, it's just great that someone from Chicago got to do the remix...Chi-Town stand up!
@23:00 this screams of what I posted on Facebook several years ago when I stated that Terry was criticized for spinning 'new music' and "sounding like he's from New York". But years later there was that thing about a Grammy nomination... (and also Bang Sundays at The Shrine - where new music was spun)
@21:20 and oh by the way Queen Latifah, Big Daddy Kane, EPMD, and MC Shan each had done a House track for their respecitve albums. And we all know what the Jungle Brothers did.
I remember seeing an interview with DJ Spinna where he explained the difference between NY and Chicago clubs. In NY they played hip-hop, house and other genres all in the same club while Chicago had clubs that either catered to hip-hop or house.
@@eriche574 I can co-sign with that on the Chicago side of things. And there was a time in the early 90s when some clubs in Chicago would have House and Hip-Hop played thru the night but the majority of the times one would would be the predominant genre over the other - like a 70/30 or 80/20; a House night would have a small amount of Hip-Hop mixed in or vice versa. Then later on the genres would be way more exclusive and a House night would be House ALL night.
@17:38 I didn't notice it at the time but looking back now, I see how big the MCA deal really was. Vibe Music/Music Plant was an indie label with a major label distribution on the UK side. That gave the label some extra visibility both in the UK and the US. And,,,several records from the label flew off the shelves - not just in the stores in London, but near my base as well, so that would be in Cambridge and Newmarket. (I think it would be safe to say that other regional shops sold Vibe Music/Music Plant records in bunches as well)
"Madness" I rinsed that E.P ..back in the day ! Bless Mr Hunter! 🙏🏾

@31:58 I heard "Move Your Body" at Defected Croatia 2022 - the crowd went nuts. That is all for that...
