      look up bruce lee's diagrams from his unfinished Tao of JKD book. Or if you search for Ninja Nate's JDK channel, he'll talk about a flick punch and a snap punch. In JKD and Wing Chung it's so exagerated that I worry about breaking bones in my hand, so I wouldn't suggest doing it to that extreme. It's basically about the way your seratus and elbow snap out the trajectory of your fist at the very end. It's better to really look at the punches in a video than reading it (I feel like I already messed up in trying to write it out), because talking about snapping your elbow and shoulder or flicking your knuckles could lead to injury if you don't do it right. Icy mike is right that those little micro movements at the end make the punches feel a little more different if you're throwing them with power.

With no gloves, i think it might be pretty hard on the wrist, and makes it harder to get under an opponents jaw so it is maybe more dangerous for bare fist but works great in the gloves!

    I personally like vertical jabs, cuz they can be quicker, and they can slide through guards as you've shown. Also, and you can do that vertical jab with the top or bottom knuckles. But you gotta extend those knuckles forward, just like you showed for the top knuckles and thumb, do the same with the bottom knuckles. It essentially works like the 1" punch, but actual jabs.

That extension reinforces the arm, similar to the turning over the shoulder. Anyway, great vid. The 2nd way, ya BOI sets up the stiff jab is similar to the riddick boxing smash punch. You can set it up similar to throwing a lead shovel hook or uppercut. Thanks again mike!

  • @phosphorescence
    @phosphorescence 3 года назад

    @hard2kurt yeah with the vertical punch, what they do is use the bottom 3 knuckles , keeping the fist basically level(like you're holding a hot mug of coffee, trying to keep the liquid level) while the arm extends outwards, towards the end of the extension your fist naturally scoops upwards, with the 3 knuckles on impact. Your way of doing it seems a lot more comfortable, your way will be safer to do bare knuckle too with those top 2 knuckles. That little bit extra definitely translates into more power if it lands properly, critical hit chance +1.5% ... I'm a nerd. I dig it.

    I know this has been out for 2 months but there is another "spicy way" to throw a jab that I'm curious what you think of. Basically when you are throwing jabs, while the arm is extended, you turn your hip and you extend your shoulder with it (you turn your shoulder more, bringing it forward as well), extending its reach. PS be careful with punches that overextend your arm (eg the one at 6:53), it can hurt you, like my elbows are clicking because of overextending my arms with my punches and now sometimes they even get "stuck" (cant extend them without making them click and it usually hurts) when doing pushups.
    I hope I wasn't pretentious, I just want to be part of the community and maybe get your opinion.

    Here's the king fu nerd for that last punch. It's very similar to a Wing Chun strait punch, just in Wing Chun we usually strike with the bottom 3 knuckles vs. The top 2. Though there are some schools who do use the top 2 the premise is the same...added ranged and more knock back power. Though we don't lock the elbow and the school I came from the first is held in a 45 degree angle vs. vertical. It's all about structure power.

    Hi, der Fauststoß ist iwe er im WingChun verwendet wird. Vielleicht nicht den Stoß aus der Schulter führen sondern den Ellbogen nach vorne schleudern. Die Faust ist dann wie eine Eisenkugen and einer Kette. Dann passt das auch wieder mit der Schulter arretieren :-)

    I imagine that sweat trick might be an old school thing that no one really taught, but I think this is the first time I've actually heard it.
    Maybe it just sounds like an old school trick.

    thats crazy actually when i did JKD uses the wing chun method of cranking the vertical fist upward and driving your bottom 2 knuckles for some reason. your way is way more efficient when i tried it.
