Sorry but that ain't luck. If any of these talented musicians could write and deliver the music that RHCP have they'd be discovered in a heartbeat and would selling out huge venues. Yes, there are a lot of talented musicians out there. But some are just a little more talented and rise above the rest and it isn't luck.

True. I watched my father, a classical guitarist, play for hours everyday. I wanted to learn so badly that I tried playing his guitar while he was playing. I ended up learning from an early age. I'll write something and wonder where the melody came from... it was all of the classical music I had heard as a child.

@@dud5606 This is very true. You missed one though- talent. I have most of the above- have been playing many years. I lack talent. I can still play pretty good. Played for 2 hours at a party and some lady commented she thought it was the radio (she was drinking- a lot!) That said, I am realistic. I am OK, but really not that good. His whole band is very talented. With that as a foundation, their passion, dedication, discipline, bravery and luck help make them successful. You have to connect with your target audience. Their lyrics are powerful and hit a nerve with a certain demographic. They achieved another critical thing- massive popularity. This in turns fuels their success. You can be talented and brave, etc., but if you are playing and singing songs no one can relate to, you will go nowhere. Most bands that made it in the 70's would not be successful if they debut today. It has to do with the era, timing, the lyrics, the vibe. Talent, passion and dedication are not as important. My guitar instructor told me that I have never heard of most of the best guitar players. Their CD's sit on the back shelf in stores and no one buys them. They play better than most popular bands but they don't connect. Look at Green Day. They play about 3 chords. That's it, yet they are hugely popular. They connect with people. Their lyrics, like with Nirvana have people singing along. It almost does not matter what they play. I played on stage at a bar once. The crowd was so pumped up, I could miss notes and no one cared. They kept singing along! Again, beer helps...a lot! When you are sober, I don't sound quite as good!
I love how supportive the rhcp are of one another. Throughout the years, no matter what they always had each other's backs. It's why they are still together and continue to make music.
I got a quick story. I was working and sometimes living at a punk club called the Metroplex in Atlanta in the late 80's. I was coming down the stairs from basically the backstage area during the day before the nights show. Nobody's around and all of a sudden Anthony Kiedis enters the door with his beautiful hair and wearing a fancy bathrobe. I started laughing and said who are you? Some fucking rock star? I knew who he was but they were nobody then but he was projecting the rock star game at a dirty punk club. He was petrified. Flea was cool as fuck though. 300 people at the show. Never saw them getting as big as they did.
And Anthony Kedis’ upbringing is likely “my mom just walked around the house & constantly sang 7-10 cents underneath the note & that’s what made me want to sing.” &Sing slightly under the note he consistently did.
A lot of comments are misunderstanding the comments on John’s psychosis. John openly discusses hearing voices, music is a big part of how he deals with it. I have schizoaffective disorder, another psychotic illness, and use music similarly. It wasn’t a joke, or an insult. I’m surprised how many people are unaware of this or just not educated enough on psychosis to know what it actually means, and that a person can sometimes succeed despite it.
@@Corey-iw4ot it can make things worse while on it, or trigger it, but asbgers doesn’t result in hearing voices like John Frusciante and Flea. More likely a form of schizophrenia that thankfully only progressed so far
If you trace anyone’s history back to their childhood, you will learn a lot about them and about the world. We must fight against child abuse! It all comes back around - with some exceptions- and creates havoc in our world, perpetuating suffering throughout the generations.
That’s not an exaggeration, John frusicante literally played guitar 12 hours a day from age 12-18 and that’s how he became a god guitarist and entered the rhcp at age 19.

@@kimcorsi6560 99.99 of musicians that practice that much will never be rockstars. The point isn’t to be a rockstar. It’s to get so insanely good that you can play whatever you dream of. If your goal is to be a rockstar, it won’t happen because you’ll be focused on the wrong thing. Plus rock music is not popular anymore. It can be, but there’s not enough incentive for real musicians to make a living doing it because all your music is given away for free because of the internet. That’s when rock really went in decline. It becomes MUCH MUCH easier to be a pop star or successful rapper because that’s what sells. I practice like this just because I do it for me and I want to blow some minds at the bars in my neighborhood. I have been playing for 15 years since I was 11 and got a lot of recognition around my town, but that dream of being a rockstar died when a few friends of mine one day decided to be rappers, and were good at it, but put significantly less effort into it and was able to tour the country. No one can tell me that rapping and writing pop songs and working with a computer is harder than mastering an instrument. It takes about 10 thousand hours at least on guitar to become great like all the famous rock and metal guitarists. To put into perspective that is at least 4 to 6 hours of playing for 5 to 10 years, and then you have to practice moving on stage. Not to mention the years of music theory you have to know, because it is harder than ever to be innovative. You have to make mistakes and bomb on stage and get booed off a few times and dealing with people telling you you suck, because you NEED to screw up in order to not screw up again. Thousands more hours just writing, then dealing with life AND you must have a full time job and or go to school because you’re not going to get paid unless you’re insanely successful I work 12 hours a day, then practice and write 4 more hours. Then go to the gym three times a week. I don’t expect to get anywhere But a real musicians work ethic is on another level. You know rappers don’t work that hard for that long (with the exception of a few, but they usually do much more than produce and write rap, again they practice instruments)
@@kimcorsi6560 I hope this puts it into perspective for you. That’s what goes behind the scenes when you see someone with an instrument on stage. There’s a reason real instruments aren’t as popular anymore with music and there’s a lot more computer generated music. Singing isn’t much different. I don’t hear real singing anymore, you have auto tune that fixes peoples mistakes so they don’t even have to actually know how to sing in pop music.
I love that he talks with such genuine respect & understanding about his band mates! I spent 10 years in the same band & it can really challenge relationships. It's like being in a 4 way marriage. Also, with the CRAAAAZY life he lived, and how RHCP came to be. I actually went on to read it 3 more times after that lol I just love it. I saw them in Cleveland, some years ago, and it made my whole life.
I was self taught on RUclips for about 3 years until I met my teacher in the 10th grade, that’s where I found my love for blues guitar and he taught me everything, back when he first started his band they went to watch George Thorogood in ocean city in like 85’ (sometime in the mid-late 80’s) and RHCP was one of the openers . My teacher loved them and was at a 7/11 later that night on coastal highway and saw Flea getting beers. He went up to him and was basically just complementing their set and in return Flea had invited him over to where they were staying in Ocean City to party with them . One thing people gotta realise that next to their skill and passion that definitely contributed to becoming famous they were also VERY lucky. Just imagine al the talented, passionate hard working mucisians that just were never discovered. Now on the bright side i like to think about that when searching trough indie music and meaby finding such a gem.

@@tijmwalstra5568 that’s a slippery slope way of thinking. Once you start thinking like that then everything can be attributed to “luck”.
@@SoundcastStudios bruh it’s luck that we even exist. The sun is just the right distance from us, just the right amount of water on our planet, asteroid collided with earth and made our moon, all our ancestors managed to pipe each other down without getting eaten and we cultivated cognition. Somewhere out there Chad, John and Flea are like "wtf Anthony, stop telling our family secrets, we told you that in confidence "
Literally the reaction at least Flea had to Anthony’s autobiography.
@@basketcase6999 lmaooo did he really?
Anthony is incredibly conscious about details. He sees everyone in his life through a unique light, as he describes in his book.
True. I watched my father, a classical guitarist, play for hours everyday. I wanted to learn so badly that I tried playing his guitar while he was playing. I ended up learning from an early age. I'll write something and wonder where the melody came from... it was all of the classical music I had heard as a child.
That's such a great foundation...
My grandfather was an Italian immigrant who came to America legally with nothing. He was a famous Italian singer in his little town in Italy. And now he is my inspiration to play electric guitar and I’ve been playing for five years now. Why I’m saying was bc he passed a couple of years ago
If he was famous in Italy, wouldn't he have came to America with at least SOME money or anything?
@@BlamingBuddha famous doesn’t always bring rich. I mean that he was famous by a lot of people knowing him, listening to his music, being on the radio, some tv. But never really was rich.

Met Anthony in 1995 at his then girlfriends dads funeral at the funeral home my grandfather owned. It was during the recording sessions for “One hot minute”. That chance encounter with him, flea,& chad changed my life. He took the time to hang out w me and talk and play my guitar for almost an hr. I commented with the same point.
You need a combination of passion, dedication, discipline, bravery and a shit ton of luck to be where they are.
I played that club a few times in a band called Confessor! It was a nice club.
Scotty, are you a Rock Star? You certainly have the right name!
I'm trying to find your point....
@@chrisbeck6281 I don't need a point to speak about an experience. That's all I was sharing.

Yes but cocaine and herion use can make things much worse . Asbgers syndrome most likely they all have
@@Corey-iw4ot it can make things worse while on it, or trigger it, but asbgers doesn’t result in hearing voices like John Frusciante and Flea. More likely a form of schizophrenia that thankfully only progressed so far

I’m really sorry
But did you become a rock star? If not, why would let all of that practicing go to waste? Did your brother become a rock star?
Thousands more hours just writing, then dealing with life AND you must have a full time job and or go to school because you’re not going to get paid unless you’re insanely successful
I work 12 hours a day, then practice and write 4 more hours. Then go to the gym three times a week. I don’t expect to get anywhere
But a real musicians work ethic is on another level.
@@joshuablair252 i didn't read all that but both Flea and Anthony wanted to be rockstars from the start. Guess they are the .01%
