Brittle Bones Nicky was the first song I ever heard from Rare Americans.
As a music-lover, the beat and the song itself are incredible.
As a story teller, I envy the sheer amount of story you managed to pack into one song.
Nicky's entire life, his efforts to make something of himself even if that something was never quite the best person, good at heart just dealt a bad hand and doing what he could with what he had.
And then Brittle Bones Nicky 2, his death, his conflict with the good and the evil in his life, the reality that the deck was stacked against him from the beginning. The song was a perfect addition to the original, and ended just as well.
To me, BBN means doing whatever you can with whatever you have, and making the absolute most out of the life you're given, whatever form that takes. A mentality I've always tried to live by, and one I can't help but see perfectly showcased in the songs.

The entire premise of the song being created out of thin air after seeing an old man on a bench while out on a walk is amazing to me, every part of music in the song works together with the lyrics to create a full world to live in for 3 minutes and five seconds (and it slaps!!)

When I first discovered the music video of BBN I was excited I’ve been a Fan of your music for 5 years. Brittle Bones Nicky is the song that really sold me on you guys as a band, and I’ve been hooked ever since. I listen to both Brittle Bones Nicky 1 & 2 pretty regularly, I’m just so invested in the story that the songs tell
I found this song a while ago, around 2021. When I first heard it, I fell in love with the whole band. I became linked. The song helped me get through most of 7th grade, which is when I got diagnosed with moderate anxiety and depression. I had no confidence, I had just been rejected, and I was bullied from all sides. Brittle bones nicky helped me get past this and was the spark that made me love your channel. And on October 24th 2022, I went to the Utah show with my friend and had a blast. I still have a set list hung up on my wall, and a signed hoodie. Brittle Bones Nicky especially helped me get out of my comfort zone and actually start to go and meet people.

This song brings me an unbelievable amount of joy! To me it symbolizes that resilient spirit that resides within everyone. Nicky just happened to tune into it full force - he has a very strong connection with his own self that makes him unstoppable, (represented as his skeleton, the very structure that keeps us from collapsing). Theres also an irony in the name *brittle bones nicky* because the truth is his bones- his spirit - is a lot stronger then many, and that’s what keeps him fighting, even in death! I strive to be that strong in myself because Ive had a bit of a journey of learning to accept validation from myself, and listening to the inner voice that’s encouraging instead of the one that tells me I’m nit enough. This voice tells me to live as happily as I can if only just to rebel against that negative self talk that brings me down. Nicky has his own set of morals, and a big part of that for him is doing anything for the people he cares about. So not only is he highly connected with himself, but he puts just as much importance in other people, which I am also entirely about!

I was browsing youtube, saw the song and thought hey that looks cool, gave it a listen and its hard to say how much this song meant to me. I have constantly struggled with being smaller, skinnier, weak and at the time i was dealing with depression, anxiety and a lot of family problems. It was amazing to see a character i could relate to and the fact that even if i mess up for a long time as long as i make up for it, take care of the people who matter to me and live my best life in the future I shouldnt be too hard on myself. Since hearing this song for the first time, its still one of my most played songs, i have recieved help for my mental health problems, found out i also had adhd and autism. and am now living a good life in a job i love. Rare Americans pulled me out of a far place in life. I had just gotten out of eating disorder rehab and was having a hard time. I had my friends and family supporting me but life was still tough, eventually I stumbled upon Brittle Bones Nicky. Since then I’ve been hooked. Through so much Rare Americans has been there, they’ve even given me the chance to mod their discord. As much as I hate to agree, you are absolutely right. Honestly I'm not a big fan of RA anymore due to the drastic change of their musical style. Their earlier songs were bangers, and I don't know what happened. In a way RA reminds me of Gorillaz because they are very experimental with their music and never stick to one "genre"

This song definitely appeared when I needed it. Tough time, creativity drained, mental health was sapped. This music definitely helped me, and wasn’t just trying to forgive bad stuff, or pardon. It’s acceptance, but also disparaging. It’s critical of the bad things we do, but it also tells us we’re not bad people. The world’s just messy and messed up. I may not be able to relate directly, but I can empathize, and I can definitely relate to being frustrated at a system, and not letting “higher” powers judge me when they’re the ones giving power to a system that doesn’t work.

Growing up in a dysfunctional family in a atypical household its tone and way it shows that everyone has demons to fight and no matter how many times life kicks you down you get back up. I was in a dark place, a place where i felt alone and stupid with all the mistakes I've made in my life. Growing up, i tried to make sure i did everything correct and made sure everyone was happy with me. I've also been the type to make sure others get more than i need, but because i overdo it in this fashion, i will catch myself not worrying about my own well-being and it causes a lot of problems. I've been getting better, but when i first watched Brittle Bones Nicky, i felt that even though ive made mistakes, that ive still tried to make the most i could do and when the "You're not a bad person, it's just a bad world" album came out, a lot of those songs helped me through a terrifying breakup of 3 and a half years (Especially Moving On and Better Man). Other songs from your different albums, going from "Rare Americans 2 (Gas Mask and Berlin), Jamesy Boy and the Screw Loose Zoo (Baggage, Walkin n Talkin, Black Sheep, even Hey Sunshine), and even Searching for Strawberries (So many songs to count for that album)", your music has been there for me and has given me the lessons i needed to hear, even if i didn't want to hear them. Thank you for giving me these eye-openers and i will always continue to be a great fan to your music.

We're all in our mid to late 20s and we can all relate to Brittle Bones Nicky in some way or another.
I actually discovered brittle bones nicky pretty recently and i think its really cool. Nicky is a real punk and i stand for it and admire him. Hes really inspiring me and i love the story telling.
This song brought me back to you guys I remember listening to pay me back and thinking you guys were pretty good and then heard this song and came back and it was the best choice I have made to this day
