Yes!!! Nothing like a Hammond B-3... That unique sound gives me chills - brings me back to those great times of yesteryear.
Doesn't need to use a B3 on stage. He can use a Hammond SK2 and get the exact same sound. Doesn't even need a Leslie cab for that great trem effect, as it has the Leslie effect digitally built in. It totally duplicates and replaces a B3.
Yes, agree..... I guess I have a sentimental feeling for the B3 and I like the visual appeal of it. Granted, it's huge - and as you said the sound can be had from SK2. Guess I hate to let go of yesteryear - time goes too damn fast..
I agree the organ sounds like a B3 and it sure is easier to haul around. Musicians loved the sound of a B3 but NOBODY wants to haul that thing around today.

I have been a fan since "On Time". Grand Funk Railroad was a tight band, with Mark, Don and Mel. Adding Craig, worked good. But throughout ALL that time, Mark Farner was the center point of Grand Funk Railroad. He doesn't need Don and Mel. Don Brewer can call his group, whatever he wants to, but without Mark Farner, it ISN'T Grand Funk Railroad! Since Mark started walking with the Lord Jesus, he looks great and plays better than ever! Mark Farner IS Grand Funk Railroad! Thanks for all the GREAT Rock, Mark!!!

Mark has lived just down the road from me for years. He truly is a treasure. I don't give my comments or admiration lightly and I admire Mark very much.

Farner as the driver of GFR’s sound from the late 60s forward lives in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame minds of those who have been fortunate enough to witness the sound live or recorded! Who wants to buy their way into recognition!? Documentarians would do well to create an historical account for posterity of one of the finest rock acts to create their deserving space in the last 55 years of rock history!

Clark McCarrell, You could say the same thing about John Fogarty, and John Kay. Without them there is no CCR or Steppenwolf. I agree, Mark Farner is GFR.
But a lot of these bands the original backup singing can't be captured. Also the drums.
I agree totally. But their first number one hit was sung by Don Brewer. We're an American band. Which I couldn't believe. That was far from my favorite song.

Mark Farner is as raw as it gets. By that i mean straight from the heart. Plug up turn up and play your ass off. Critics HATED them fans LOVED them. Still my favorite band. This guy brings a lot of energy soul and blues you can feel.
I had the great fortune of seeing GFR St Louis in '69. They were opening for Led Zep and the crowd was really jacked to see Robert Plant and Jimmy Page. GFR was kinda unknown then compared to Zep. GFR came onstage with such a blast of energy,sound and fury the crowd was stunned. Farner with the long hair, armbands running around the stage with his funky green Messinger gtr was nothing seen before.A month later GFR was dropped from the tour by the Zep manager. GFR eating Zep's lunch every gig
Izzy95 - Mark was a sexy devil and still a very gifted and well loved performer. I dont think I would have been able to handle seeing him live back in the day. A top would have definitely been whipped off. Jus' sayin'.
I remember Mel talking about backing Zeppelin in Detroit. Said they didn't hold back (when did they ever). "We out rocked Zeppelin, how about that" remarked Schacher.

Look how many bands copied them after that. Just saw a video of Pink Floyd recording in - at Pompeii - their shirt’s are off! Same time period.
Volume level was amped up by Every band! Audience participation was encouraged, boogying was a must!
And that’s why at 67 years old they are Still My All time favorite band NOW GET THEM IN THE ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME - along with other MICHIGAN and OHIO bands of that era - why do you think the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame was put in Cleveland???!!! Because we know how to ROCK!

In the 70's Mark was playing a Hammond B-3 organ now he is playing some sort of modern Nintendo sounding wannabe organ synth which sounds terribly sterile and thin what a shame...

I grew up in their heyday....They sucked then and well, they suck now. Think about it. My music of choice is pandora, My musical selection is classic rock. I could be wrong, but, I don't think I have ever heard them.....Thank GOD!!!!
I think because this Band stoled the Show from Led Zeppelin early on, Peter Grant did everything in his power to diminish their Stardom, because this band was Bigger than Aerosmith and Kiss. Grand Funk was selling out Arenas.
