- Physical strength was a requirement of knights, not lords. The nobility of the Seven Kingdoms operated instead through shrewd deception and convenient alliances. This style of living set them on edge, yet it was the price to pay for the fineries of life. Yet, there were some who still could not escape their grimy reputation. So it was with House Frey. Try as he might, the late Lord Walder could not shift the tide of public opinion in regards to his family, but one of his descendants was viler than the rest. This was Black Walder Frey. Hello everyone, and welcome back to Exploring Fiction. One of the countless spawn of the great Frey clan, Black Walder quickly gained a reputation for both moral corruption and unmetered anger. He did nothing to dispute the claims made against the integrity of his House, instead seemingly fueling them with his behavior, and when at last the Freys rose higher than ever before, he was present for it all. Black Walder Frey represented the worst qualities of his brethren, a pure personification of all that was wrong with House Frey, and maybe even the nobility at large. So, who exactly is Black Walder Frey, and why is he such an interesting character? Let’s explore…

Black Walder is hard as fuck “ nasty bit of business that one”
Hosteen Black Walder and Walder rivers are easily in the top 15 warriors of Westeros during WO5K
Not sure about that one lol. Top 15? No. Although both Bastard Walder and Black Walder are tough mean mfs.
If there's a good point about Black Walder is that he's honest about who he is. He's not pretentious like a lot of his relatives
Thanks for the video. Great as always 👍🏽
Thanks for watching!
Love these videos
Thank you!
I have a lot of empathy for the Freys. Maybe it’s because I too was raised by an abusive parent.
People seem to forget how the other houses in GOT constantly dehumanize the Freys. They do not see them as people, as peers or as worthwhile.
Throughout the entire book series whenever they are mentioned, people are attacking their looks, their abilities, their counsel. They are constantly being used and lied to by other houses.
How many times has Catelyn Stark made mock of their looks, or speak ill of Lord Walder, and she even admitted her own father did the same which probably prompted the late Lord Walder incident.
Edmure Tully, who isn’t much of anything, insulted Lothar and Martyn Rivers. Claiming they weren’t good enough to be in his presence because one had a bad leg, the other was baseborn.
Robb Stark lied to them in order to cross and have Frey men die for him. Rather than keep his promises, he screwed some woman who was put up to it by her ambitious mother. And rather than take responsibility, he wanted to use the Freys again, and his uncle was the one who had to make it up for him.
People also forget how all the other houses, especially the Starks, have done countless evils in the world, yet their honour and nobility are never questioned or tarnished.
Why? Because the Freys are hard working common people who raised themselves up into riches and nobility, and these other houses are classist and arrogant.
The Freys acted no different than any other house did before them, which is mentioned quite a few times throughout the books by many different characters.
It makes sense that people who are constantly being spat on would act hostile.
Great comment
Frey apologist? What they did was way worse than what Robb did.
@@alexandermendez4653 Rob looked the other way when his mother betrayed everyone releasing the kingslayer, but killed lord karstark when he killed some lanisters, then he married an enemy's daughter!!he was not honorable at all,
@@chikibusan Thank you! It’s so annoying when a well thought out comment goes over people’s heads.
@@alexandermendez4653 whatever you say love
10:43 *Lowest on the totem pole of nobility*
So does that place them higher or lower than *House Clegane* ?
Good point. House Clegane isn't exactly up there either
Love your videos can you make a video describing each kingdom, strength in the books and soldier quality?
Thank you! That is an interesting idea, I may just have to add that to the list...
Please do add it to the list!
My kind of dude
I find the Frey factions building in the imminent fight for power after Old Walder dies very interesting.
The only Frey with some balls
Thank you for the video. It was nice to see someone talk about black walder . The freys get way too much heat. Rob Stark is the piece of shit.
Thanks for watching!
Thank you!
You can always tell who didn’t read the books, as they are the ones who shit on the Freys while ignoring the wrongs committed against them from other houses.
Every other house spits on the Freys, uses them constantly and retracts their promises to them. Robb Stark was a piece of shit. And so was Edmure and Catelin herself. The funniest part is, Stark had no clue whatsoever he was set up by Jeyne’s family. Lol some king.
You said the word “brethren” 70 million times
I think he killed Ser Stevron
Netflix GoT
Black Walder and Black Fish have WAY too much in common to NOT be related.
And they are both the only black people jn Westeros
@@ChristianMcClaine Yur so foolish hahahahah
@@ChristianMcClaine OmG that made me laugh so hard...but yo! There IS the Black Goat Vargo Hoat! Which is ALSO kind wierd considering that Black Fish WAS the Black Goat before he changed it to Fish. Black Aly...
