Thanks for the detailed review! I'm currently trying to decide between a Mazda3 and and Elantra, so I was very happy to see that you had recent videos of both. Well done!!
I’ve been a little worried recently. I was looking into a 2016 mazda3 I SPORT with 74,000 I heard they last a good 150,000-200,000 if we’ll maintained. The guy i’m getting mine from treated it well but i’ve just been really nervous lately because this would be my first car.
Thanks for the review. I've become interested in the Mazda 3 because I'd like to have a manual shift car again (years ago I had a 5 speed VW Golf). The Mazda 3 hatchback looks great and seems affordable in the lesser (sport or base) versions. I've sat in one, but have yet to test drive.
Good review as usual, Chris. I think you're right about Mazda adding a turbo for the MS3 version, but I am hopeful that they will also offer a mid-level performance trim between the 2.5S and the MS3. They've got a DI engine with 13:1 compression making about 70hp/L. There's no reason why shifting from the Atkinson Cycle to the Otto Cycle and adding some ones and zeros couldn't bump the power in this engine (without a turbo) to 225HP (or 90hp/L, around what GM is getting from their DI 3.6 V6) at the expense of only a few MPG. THAT would be the Mazda (Mazda) 3 I would be interested in!
Nice review. Anyone considering this car would be wise to wait until the '17s come out. In addition to the mazdaspeed version, an overall refresh (much like the '15 6) will be done. This means a cleaner (less iPad stuck on dash look) and no more manual parking brake with the hideous leather boot. If you don't care about that stuff, the leftover '16s will be priced to sell.
You've improved your reviewing skills a great deal in the past few years. Well done and keep it up! This car is nice but I'm can't get off the VW GTI wagon. Next ride is gonna be another GTI, I have a 2012 right now, (once I put 17 inch rims on it! damn you performance package for having too big breaks for 17s).
I really wish Mazda offered the 6 wagon here in the US. I need something slightly bigger (and I don't want an SUV or crossover) that can hold a bike or 6' surfboard easily. The 3 is close, but the 6 would be perfect. The only mid sized wagon it would compete with would be the Mercedes E350 wagon.
Here's the thing. If you are not buying a Mazda speed version of the car and just want a car that isn't going to cost you a ton that is relatively fun you don't want a turbo charger. IF you plan to keep it 7-10years. Turbo's are 1 more thing to fail, inter coolers etc. Naturally aspirated engines are overall more reliable, just because they don't have the forced induction. But if you are dealing your car every 4 years you don't care. Or if you have the money to fix the turbo you won't care. But if you are like most average joes you are smarter to buy a car without a turbo. Any fuel savings will go out the window if you need to fix the intercooler or turbo outside the warranty period.
+Jaime San Miguel That would be great because right now, as good as the 6 looks, it does not compete well against the likes of Hyundai and Kia, for instance, which offer turbo engines.
+Jaime San Miguel Highly likely, all trim levels of the Mazda6 currently are " i " trim levels. It would make sense for the turbo to be in the " S " trim level models.
I drove the 6 and I was very disappointed , no get up and go ...... It felt sluggish and heavy and the car had 25 000 miles so the engine had already been broken in , the 3 , on the other hand , was tight , very composed and gracefuly agile ..... average people don't need more than that . They should put versions painted in the same white ceramic and blue as the new CX- 3 . My other choice would be a Subaru Impreza .
Another great review, Chris. Thank you. I really like the new Mazda3 in GT trim. I currently drive a 2006, but I am not sure that I would buy the current model due to the lack of rear legroom space, which you mention in your review. However, if I did, it would be the GT trim with a manual in a color other than red. Built as described, it carries an MSRP of $26300, which is a much better value. Please review the 2016 Mazda 6. I especially want to know if it is indeed quieter than the 2015 model. One online reviewer claims that it is as quiet as an Audi S4 (not sure the year) at 65mph. I will be looking forward to it. Thanks in advance.
+Bill The 2016 Mazda 3 rear seat leg room is about the same as your 2006 Mazda 3 so if you're okay with the rear seat room in your current car, I don't think the new one would bother you.

Go with Mazda 3 way more sporty and fun to drive and is very reliable!!
@coolshariq ...not to mention, the Mazda 3 engine won't catch on fire.

I'm getting mine with 77k miles and not the sport version I'm worried too looking at reassurance 😅

I appreciated this review. How tall is the reviewer??

+CHICOZTACOS that hand brake has to go!
This didn’t age well
@@mikesmith5375hi Mike are you a personal trainer? Is that your physique in the pic?
Thank you for your time and knowledge!

Excellent review, your narration is awesome. I love these cars 👍
My mazda 2016 SGT reports gas mileage at 29 MPG but when calculating miles driven/gallons entered (at refuel) I get 34. Can anyone explain this? Thx.

+lightningsmokerXx Yes I would think this car with the 2.5 has good power and MPG
How do you read the fuel gauge on the 2016 Mazda 3?
It shows .
DMP_da_Gamer You can set it up to show every time you turn off the car.
great review, thanks
Small by small car standards? Average Americans in general are larger than normal. No matter what race.
+A Yates I am on a diet now!
I'm 5' 9 " , 32 waist and I love the car . You really feel like going to get the mail in the car .
Looks good
IMO, the Mazda 6 will get that 4 cylinder turbo charged engine before the Mazda 3.

31k opens the windows for way more cars
I hope they update that old fashioned emergency hand brake soon, all the rest of mazdas including the suv's now are electronic.

You're right, blane237. However, I do need more room, as I now have to accomodate 2 children and an infant in the rear seat. Thanks for your input.
Turbo charger, would be Great if you want to shorten the engine life by about 3 year's or 35,k miles 😂😂
it's a nice car
all it needs is AWD then im sold
+Spencer Leslie CX-3 should satisfy that?
no manual tranmission
contractki11er no manual transmission
Spencer Leslie Oh yea... :/
+contractki11er No 2.5L engine option either :(
I actually think they made this one too bi. though i tend to like small cars myself.
UK has a better 2.2d with 150bhp
+robz1471 Doesn't beat my Canadian GT's 2.5 @ 184 BHP 185 lb/ft torque. it's faster than my former 325 BMW with similar specs
Just review the Fucking car
Honestly, it looks ugly. Sorry, not hating just saying. How anyone can like the look of this thing is a mystery.
I disagree, far from it
great review, thanks
