    A kind gentleman allowed Dave to test ride his new base model Ducati Panigale V4. Dave evaluates the bike's braking, cornering, and acceleration, and concludes with some suspension direction.

    Love watching track videos of street bikes. That said, this might well be the best narrated test video I've ever watched. Dave's articulating what, IMO, I'd be saying to myself if I was in that driver's seat. Thanks, Dave! 👍

    @Dave Moss Tuning By how much as per you are the stock settings off for a 245lbs suited advanced rider on the base v4? I personally find the rear too stiff.

    • @catalystreactionsbw
      @catalystreactionsbw  2 года назад

      Based on weight and speed combined, travel will be the factor. Too stiff may be correct, but too soft will produce the same feeling. Turn the COM screw at the top of the shock to maximum and count back .5 of a turn, then test 2 complete turns out. Which one was better? First adjustment is shock too soft, second is too hard.

    Different set of questions. Just starting my track day experience, been there 1 weekend. I'm still surprised by some passes. And looking for etiquette guidance. You said this was novice/intermediate. Thoughts on pass on you at 9:47, your pass at 10:33, and rider blend line cross at 10:58? I know that doesn't phase you, but for novice/intermediate? Or was this just intermediate group?

    • @catalystreactionsbw
      @catalystreactionsbw  5 лет назад

      9.47 was an excellent pass, 2 meters minimum and plenty of room given to me. My pass at 10.33 was a little closer as the rider was already steering to his left so the distance would have increased. The pass over the blend line had plenty of room for the rider and in intermediate as per 10.59, the rider moves right of the blend line to set up for turn 1. As for the groupings, sometimes intermediate is fast, other times t is slow, sometimes it has some riders that should be in advanced or Novice - so it can be a bit of a mixture. As long as the pass is to the outside of the rider on the corner they do not get startled. On the flip side if you leave a lot of room on the inside by not taking tight lines, you run the risk of being startled.

    Hi Dave,so the problem on this fork is the spring too stiff. I have the same problem on a Suzuki gsx r 1000 L1. Do you know the spring rate on this model? I m weight 72 kg with all the gears...

    • @catalystreactionsbw
      @catalystreactionsbw  3 года назад

      .95 is the stock rate, so do you have the original springs and spacers? Has that been confirmed? You would need .80 or .85 depending on your ability and weight combined.

    • @catalystreactionsbw
      @catalystreactionsbw  6 лет назад +4

      Speed = lean = radius, so at a recorded 172mph on the display prior to turn 1, a slightly earlier turn in is required with the addition of trail brake testing to see how much the bike slows down with 50% pressure

      Thanks for the kind words. Prior to this ride I tested dynamic and found it to be far too "bouncy" ie: poor rebound control, given the pace I was running. Going to manual settings gave the confidence to push hard right away.

    Interesting, I found similarish problems until slicks went on and then the front end worked much better but the rear felt slightly overwhelmed.
    The S is worth the extra if you're really good/fast; which I'm not.

  • @johnjonlee
    @johnjonlee 6 лет назад

    2 questions, how much do you weigh with gear and what engine setting do you have it on? I have the V4S and springs are way too stiff stock, front preload is all the way out and barely any sag... And too hard to ride at dynamic engine power. Brakes did getting used to but once you do it's one of the best I've had.

    • @catalystreactionsbw
      @catalystreactionsbw  6 лет назад

      190lbs without gear. Factory showroom engine setting. Have you confirmed travel with a zip tie on the right leg to know how much you are using?

    • @johnjonlee
      @johnjonlee 6 лет назад +1

      Maybe I need to bulk up a bit :p I'm at around 185lbs with street gear; I think the stock springs are made just for you lol. Definitely need to get mine resprung. Yes, the suspension travel seems to be fine, the electronics seem to be taking care of things... but at low speeds street riding it's not that fun here and there. The little static sag is significant on little drops/bumps on the road. The electronic suspension settings I've managed to find my sweet spots, if I want to ride aggressively I'll set it close to stock settings on race mode, if I ride casually then I'll set it 1-3 settings down usually (-2 to -3) comfort settings. Get full suspension travel in either, depending on how aggressively I ride and hard I brake. Engine setting I tend to ride in Medium for smooth throttle response, the High is just too hard to control in some situations.

      I will personally not buy the S model as I will revalve and respring myself. I personally prefer to make adjustments and save time verses working through a menu wasting time. I will not use it on the street so I do not need dynamic damping. Just my 2 cents.

    • @2sx4u

      So much lighter wheels, Ohlins suspension (electronic, but Ohlins), must be enough for the price. Manual suspension is always better, easier to fix, adust and mantain, perhaps this don't worth the price but, it does if you understand that the suspension in the base model is simply garbage (for a model like this).
