This was great coverage of the Lewis and Bottas "incident" He wasn't defending but was not going to lose too much pace. Great job not hyperbolizing the drama the way most have.
The chicane at the Barcelona circuit is there for two reasons: security and dirty air. Security because there isn't enough space to build a bigger runoff area for the last corner. The second reason is because the chicane "helps" bring the cars together for the last corner and the main straight. The older two last corners were two fast corners where the cars tended to separate from each other making the overtakes more difficult than they are today.
I would rebuttal with your idea. 1) While safety is the main word for the chicane being introduced, there is other ways to solve it but they choose the cheapest, uncompromised and easiest way. For my reasoning, the chicane is built on existing land of the track and without compromising the grandstands at the final section to widen the run-off area. 2) While it might help F1 cars of 90s and 00s that had lower downforce configuration which produced less "dirty air" to a closer racing, the F1 cars of 2010s and onward had just too much downforce which in turn producing greater amount of "dirty air" and KERS/ERS allowed the F1 cars nowadays to have super fast acceleration compared to the 90s and 00s. Other than that, F1 cars produced downforce by driving fast enough around a corner and the final section of Barcelona is just slow enough to produced less downforce and encountering "dirty air" just make things worsen. The whole Final Sector is also ultimately single-file corner all the way which dissuade any side by side racing to the pit straight. 3) While the old two fast corner could reduce the chance of following, FiA and the track manager could make a final corner much more reminiscent of the Algarve circuit's Final few corners, but it would need to get permit for extra land, cost of making tarmac road, demolished the affected grandstand. All in all, let's hope the 2022 aero rules change will fix "dirty air" issue.
5:44: someone on reddit posted Hamilton's onboard when he got behind Mazepin and it looked more like he got caught in dirty air and couldn't quite get close enough for blue flags to come out. Once the blue flags did come out, Mazepin got out of the way. Seemed more like Toto wanted them to come out sooner or something.
@@sumtingwong2138 if Hamilton (who is fighting for the win) is coming up behind you, you get out of the way. “All the fans just hop on the hate train” or you can try to not ignore his lovely actions on track and even what other drivers say about him...
Toto said "Micheal, blue flags". He never said that Mazepin didn't get out of the way, he just didn't like the veeeery late blue flags. Ususally they come out when the overtaking car is 1,5-2 seconds behind. This time they did too but 1,5 seconds gap in hamilton mercedes with brand new softs vs mazepin haas with old hards is like 1 corner
So many great things with this GP, ugh, was really fun to watch. Lots of factors. You're right, Spanish GP proved that you don't need constant overtaking to have excitement. It's strategy and anticipation, curveballs, penalties, getting not getting DRS, when it matters, the midfield battles, pitstops, so good
So few things in this world makes me laugh that much as watch Matt loose it in every Race Roundoun. It is the only thing (NOT) that makes me come over here after every race. I love you guys.
Any time Mazepin sees a Mercedes or a Redbull he should be getting out of the way. He will NEVER EVER be racing Merc or Redbull. Come to think of it he should get out of the way for the rest of the grid too, including Mick
Not much else Redbull could have done other than possibly pit Max onto softs the following lap, seceding the position to Hamilton, and hope the short-term tyre advantage is enough to get back past while negating the drop off towards the end.
I don't understand you ... You said that the Portuguese GP was boring, a race of fights, overtaking and drivers struggling to control their cars ... And now you say that Spain was a good race, when there was nothing to see .. just a good strategy
The moment merc pitted they should have followed the next lap. Burn all the battery, burn the tyres like it's quali. hopefully get a few seconds infront of merc. Unfortunately they missed the opportunity.
7:58 Redbull has picked great drivers everytime. Its more of a team thing not on the drivers because this would be the third time the RB second driver has “underperformed”.
The thing is, that car looks super hard to drive. Red Bull might need another Max in the 2nd seat, but we know that drivers like him don't feel content with being a 2nd driver.
There's obviously three options. 1) it's the 2nd drivers problem. 2) It's a RB problem. 3) Max is too good for anyone but a world class driver and it shows.
MERC makes incredible pit stop and comes back from 22 seconds to win.........FANS "Boring - LH Sucks - It's the car!" RB makes incredible pit stop and comes back from 22 seconds to win.......... FANS "Best race of All Time - LH sucks."
As far as a clear weather Spanish Grand Prix could go, this was about as good as we could expect. Overtaking will always be tricky at these aero-limited tracks with the current cars, but the variety of pit strategies made it interesting. I was actually biting my knuckles in nervousness as Lewis closed down on Max with his fresh tires. It's a shame that Max ended up being a sitting duck in the end.
I was satisfied with the results. I think it was the strategy behind the team which was awesome. Not dramatic but a good race. In theory if redbull hadn't cocked up the pit stop and then pitted verstappen, they could have won, but the mercedes was just faster than the redbull like in portimao.
@@xavierentwistle8758 It's just like last year only with less dnfs from Max.
I missed the race but the internets best reactions is so much better than the highlights and matt is doing it so it is a win win
All the fans just hop on the Mazepin hate train whenever they can, it's getting a bit old now
I was thinking this. If he was ignoring blue flags there would be an investigation so don't think Maz did anything wrong really did he
@@sumtingwong2138 if Hamilton (who is fighting for the win) is coming up behind you, you get out of the way.
“All the fans just hop on the hate train” or you can try to not ignore his lovely actions on track and even what other drivers say about him...
Mazespin sucks period!
Toto said "Micheal, blue flags". He never said that Mazepin didn't get out of the way, he just didn't like the veeeery late blue flags. Ususally they come out when the overtaking car is 1,5-2 seconds behind. This time they did too but 1,5 seconds gap in hamilton mercedes with brand new softs vs mazepin haas with old hards is like 1 corner
when TOTO says on radio like arnold " BLUUUEEE FLAAAAAAAAAGS"
Merc just had to lead in E V E R Y T H I N G including social media championship.
So many great things with this GP, ugh, was really fun to watch. Lots of factors. You're right, Spanish GP proved that you don't need constant overtaking to have excitement. It's strategy and anticipation, curveballs, penalties, getting not getting DRS, when it matters, the midfield battles, pitstops, so good
We missed the post Portuguese internet best reactions😭😭😭
Definitely the best Spanish GP in recent memory.
The only reason for having race rundown is watching Matt slowly lose his mind every time...
He had already lost his mind when he was born.
Matt, passion intensified on my end as well when Charles was in P3 xD
I thought the ”battle for the final point" was about how 4 cars did extra pitstops to get the fastest lap
60 fps video looks Carlos smooth! Keep up the quality stuff guys 👏
Perez was running p1 all last race. I don't see why one bad race and now everyone is saying he needs to get better. Like, give him a mulligan, jeezus.
Why one good race shows that he is going to change anything?
He was only in p1 on track, not in the actual race. He still had to make a pistop. He never had the effective lead in the race.
So few things in this world makes me laugh that much as watch Matt loose it in every Race Roundoun. It is the only thing (NOT) that makes me come over here after every race. I love you guys.
Why are the races that we can't be there for always the most interesting. Gods I can't wait for the new cars
Tbh I did fall asleep for 30 laps so i didn't miss the important bits 😂
Yes Brooklyn 99 is such a good show
you can have an exciting race without it being wheel to wheel every corner. the merc strategy today had me on the edge of my seat
Any time Mazepin sees a Mercedes or a Redbull he should be getting out of the way. He will NEVER EVER be racing Merc or Redbull. Come to think of it he should get out of the way for the rest of the grid too, including Mick
Nah he can stay in Lewis's way as much ss he wants.
The only problem is that I can imagine someone mistaking the Aston for a Merc or vice versa.
Best Spanish GP in a long time!
Hungary 2019 repeat. I guess Red Bull hired Ferrari’s strategists.
I do think mercedes would still have been faster despite a red bull pit stop though
I feel like Bottas got passed because of a chain reaction from Verstappen pass on Hamilton.
That's true. My two favorites going at it, but we have to call it as it is.
I was pleasantly surprised by the race, it was a lot more exciting than I thought it would be.
The moment merc pitted they should have followed the next lap. Burn all the battery, burn the tyres like it's quali. hopefully get a few seconds infront of merc. Unfortunately they missed the opportunity.
When i saw Yuki's car stop, I just said "Karma" out loud
The race surprised me that i forgot Nikita Mazepin was in this race
@@myk1137 was srry
Rundown is freaking hilarious! 😂😂
Lewis is like man united, you know when they go behind they are always coming back 😂
Monday morning:
Breakfast and best reactions by wtf1 ❤️
7:58 Redbull has picked great drivers everytime. Its more of a team thing not on the drivers because this would be the third time the RB second driver has “underperformed”.
The thing is, that car looks super hard to drive. Red Bull might need another Max in the 2nd seat, but we know that drivers like him don't feel content with being a 2nd driver.
There's obviously three options. 1) it's the 2nd drivers problem. 2) It's a RB problem. 3) Max is too good for anyone but a world class driver and it shows.
after a grand prix i always await a wtf1 reaction video
MERC makes incredible pit stop and comes back from 22 seconds to win.........FANS "Boring - LH Sucks - It's the car!"
RB makes incredible pit stop and comes back from 22 seconds to win.......... FANS "Best race of All Time - LH sucks."
Definitely not true, but I appreciate the attempt
As far as a clear weather Spanish Grand Prix could go, this was about as good as we could expect. Overtaking will always be tricky at these aero-limited tracks with the current cars, but the variety of pit strategies made it interesting. I was actually biting my knuckles in nervousness as Lewis closed down on Max with his fresh tires. It's a shame that Max ended up being a sitting duck in the end.
Max since 2019 has gotten really good at going right to the edge of what is legally allowed, but without actually breaking any rules
just like lewis
that makes both of them best from the rest
That's what many champions are actually good at.
I couldn't believe Max's team went with a one stop strategy and didn't use the hard tire.
I was satisfied with the results. I think it was the strategy behind the team which was awesome. Not dramatic but a good race. Plus we got to see a lot of drivers showing their true potential like leclerc and Ricardo seems to be getting better feel for the car. I was a bit sad for gasly but seems like alphatauri was struggling. Yuki had the same problem in practice when the car shut off.
If Ferrari can give Charles a game car after the next regulations, Charles will be a problem.
@@jessereimer302 maybe. He has a ton of talent I just don't know why it took so long for him to get ahead of the midfield. Ferrari must have a lot of confidence in his ability because as we've seen in so many teams it doesn't take much to get replaced.
@@yusufdawood1426 I think they know he’s getting a lot out of that car. I like Bottas and Charles , but the pass was aided by Charles reacting to Lewis, but Charles gets a lot out of the car
@@jessereimer302 I guess we'll have to wait and see how consistent he can be. I would like to see ferrari on the podium this season before the next year regulation change.
@@yusufdawood1426 Well if Charles takes 4th like I believe, he will steal some podiums.
Compared to other Spanish grand prixs, this one was brilliant!
Perez said FROM THE START, He needs 5 races, let's give him that before we start disrespecting the man's talent.
Best season for Russel so far, haven''t started at the back of the grid just yet
Funny how a fairly average race feels like a true classic just because it was at spain
I watch F1 on ORF in Austria, where Alexander Wurz is a commentator. He exclusively said that the GPDA and all drivers filed an official request to abolish the chicane in the future
I'm still waiting for the Internet's best reactions to the Portuguese GP!!

Nope.
I still love the fact that mazepin shared the drivers of the day list with him in fourth
This race was alright
