I'm surprised to hear you study marketing even though you clearly are a smart and moral individual and see the problem with creating artificial need which in turn promotes consumerism and is detrimental to society as a whole. Im all for infomercials that dont try to push products via psychological means but stick to facts. Sadly thats not as profitable and thats why we have the kind of society where people are constantly bombarded with ads that prey on our weaknesses such as FOMO and need for validation/status. And the saddest thing is that most people think they are immune to it while companies who have access to full data and analytics clearly see the ads are working and therefore keep pouring money into their marketing.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts-I study marketing with the hopes of understanding people and what they want... but ive definitely seen the dark side and want people to be as informed as possible. Appreciate your comment
