In this video you will see in detail how to replace steering wheel controls. This is the same process for Model S and Model X. Replacement on a Model 3 might be slightly different.

What's even less typical for auto industry is a scrolling wheel breaking. That said, your video is great!
Btw the scroll wheel can be replaced as well easily.. Just buy any contrôler with a working scroll wheel
Hi, I've replaced the left control button, and now when I scroll the right side button, the voice command gets activated for some reason. Do you know how can I solve this problem please
Did the mobile tech disconnect the 12v battery before removing airbag? Or just turned down the car? I am considering doing this myself but don’t want to disconnect battery
Looks like no. I've seen multiple videos now where they don't disconnect the 12v battery.
I wonder if your horn was working or not. I have an issue where the scroll wheels and horn stopped working in my 2017 Model X at 94K but my horn also does not work. Trying to understand how the scroll wheels and horn tie together. Wiring harness and a more central controller? I would say to add a horn test before and after fixing too.
Hello comment from 2Y ago! Same here w/ 2017 MX ! Mine was an intermittent fail, randomly cutting in/out (controls + horn, stalks work fine)
Tesla wants to replace the buttons + harness assembly. but I fail to see why the buttons need replacing. I did find that randomly smacking the horn around would restore functionality lol. How did your situation wind up?
@@jeffgorchynski Tesla replaced buttons and harness, and I haven’t had a problem since.
@@OurTeslaModelXJourney Thanks so much. To confirm, that is the two scroll buttons and the wire (harness) between them, that's it aye?
@@jeffgorchynski Our video Day 1731 is where the problem occurred. That was March 12, 2022. Looks like service appt. on April 4, 2022 is where the fix was done along with the FSD camera upgrade. On the invoice, it's ASY, Steering Control Switch Harness (1013242-00-K) 220.00 plus an 87.50 to remove and replace steering wheel. They did not replace Ruby's wheel thank goodness. I have an awesome real leather wheel with a few loving dings in it at this point. Maybe the estimate showed the buttons but not the invoice? Not sure.
@@OurTeslaModelXJourney Thanks so much!
Do you happen to have the part numbers from the invoice?
@0:11 Looks like the Manuf Part Num is 1013242-00-F, the order-able part number. The label "FR6274 659 A" is a completed hardware right side assembly. The left side would be "FL6274 659 A". Both sides, "FR6274 659 A" & "FL6274 659 A" plus the cable assem between them plus whatever "Software 1/2" is loaded become 1013242-00-F.
How much was it?
if not under warranty, how much will be charged to change the steer wheel button?
The quote I got from TSLA for a 2015 Model S was $299 and change for part number 1013242-00-J.
$323 was my quote. Part was $220
Part: Tesla Model S -X Steering Wheel Control Buttons 1013242-00-k
When the airbag was remove and plugged back in, did the car show a check airbag light? Is there even a check airbag light?
I think the tech powered the car off first. Also, think US law requires check airbag light
When I go to SAFETY>POWER OFF to turn off the vehicle, it keeps turning back on within about a minute which is preventing me from disconnecting the airbag. Any idea why the car keeps turning back on? I have not touched the screen or brake pedal.
Weight on seat changing will turn it back on- very frustrating. You’ve probably figured this out by now but you’ll have to disconnect battery to turn car off
Hi. How much you got charged for the job?
No charge as it was under warranty
If this is firmware issue then hardware replacement won't solve it. I have similar issues and I was planning to replace switch by my own looking at this video but looks like if it's firmware issue then it won't fix it. Elon is unethical smh 🤦🏼♂️
Plastic cheap plasticity on wheels
As a user it doesn't feel like cheap plastic. It does feel nice. It also turns out that nothing was wrong with the button and that didn't fix the issue. Turns out it was something in the firmware.
The entire steering wheel and stalk is made by Mercedes ;)
@@ALLElectricChannel hello Sir this is firmware issue and not actual hardware switch issue? I am having similar issue and I was going to replace the switch after watching your video. What do you recommend? Will the replacement fix the issue or I just wait for new firmware update?
