I was in HS in the early 2000s, in a small town in Texas, and I knew about and wanted to go to Burning Man. I thought it was just a fun music festival. I don't even remember how I found out about it, but I remember talking to my mom about going, but she wasn't on board at all. Praise the Lord for giving me a good mother and for Him keeping me out of that scene!
I did the same as him. I got into the new age firstly from Eckhart Tolle, eastern mysticism from yoga, etc. So blessed to not be a part of any of that anymore! I’m a Christian now.
I got half way through the power of now and had to stop, was boring me to death. I ended up watching more Eckhart than reading. I never really understood his message but it was soothing to fall asleep to due to his voice. I never knew at the time it was concidered new age but I can see it being a gateway. I am Christian now too and jesus is better than any of that nonsense.
I completely get where will is coming from. I was a dj in the Bay Area and I 100% understand the layers of dj culture that he’s talking about. In fact I just gave away my be here now book a year or two ago. I’ve actually been invited to go to a festival in sf in a couple weeks as a backup dj, but I’m not so sure about that these days lol. The whole new age festival scene is a racket, and Will absolutely nailed it because there’s always someone whos more enlightened than you because they seem totally free. I’m really embarrassed by my actions at festivals and such these days. acting without shame is an illusion. God has a way of bringing to light what’s in the dark.
Thanks for your comment. I’m glad I got out of the DJ scene before it became woke. I can’t imagine what that was like. Also yes the New Age “enlightened” seem very free, don’t they? They’re always so beautiful, and they have so much money. Wait… beauty, status, and money as markers of virtue? No different from the regular world. Amazing right? I also regret many of the things I did during my time as a DJ and in festivals but repentance is a real thing. Thanks again.
I worked in a popular photo lab in Marin County in the late 90s and we'd see hundreds of burning man photos. I never quite understood what the point of it was even though I was into the New Age and Tarot as well. It never did appeal to me as I'm a bit phobic about doing psychedelics and it was very apparent that that was a big factor in the festival. I'm very thankful to know Christ now, it's been a rough road and I'm loving listening to my brothers and sisters in Christ that are truly kindred spirits as many of them have walked a similar path to myself. God Bless you bigly for what you do on this channel.

As someone who grew up in a traditional Christian household, I had that "rebellion" that a lot of kids do. My parents weren't the type to recite Bible verses while punishing us, but we went to church every Sunday, my father was part of the worship team, playing various instruments. What we went to was what you'd consider a "mega church." Things got political, and since my family didn't have a ton of money, we were looked down on and lost positions within the church to people who tithed more. This was my biggest disillusionment with religion. So eventually I graduated high school, and determined there was no God. No God, no Jesus. I thought, "I'll just do whatever I want." Then I got into drugs. First it started with weed, then it delved into psychedelics. I can't tell you how much I discourage anyone from doing psychedelics. It will offer insight, but some things in your mind are best not explored. I had a bad acid trip, and never touched it again. During this trip, I felt a profound sense of emptiness. And even after the LSD wore off, it messed me up for a long time. I STILL feel this come up from time to time. After meeting my wife and having my son, we decided to return to church. A small church right down the street from my house. I finally understand what true fellowship is. I've since come to realize there is in fact a God, we can't just be specks floating around in the universe where there's nothing left after life. What's the point, otherwise? Since returning to Christianity, I am not nearly as depressed as I was when I was indulging in drugs and alcohol. I still have moments where I feel that profound sense of emptiness and loneliness, but I'm not sure if it's a side-effect of my LSD use or if I continue to suffer from bouts of depression that I have throughout my entire life. Regardless, I'm glad to have let go of these vices, and my return to following the word of Jesus.
