  • Living the Classical Life: Episode 50
The 50th episode of LTCL follows the life, career, and art of tenor Robert White, who was a child star on NBC radio during the medium’s golden age. With archival audio and photos throughout, this special episode is a very personal look at a unique musician. In his lifelong singing career, White has sung for five U.S. Presidents, Britain’s Queen Mother and Prince Charles, Monaco’s Royal Family, and Pope John Paul II. He has recorded extensively for RCA, EMI, Virgin, Sony, Arabesque and Hyperion with such colleagues as Yo-Yo Ma, Placido Domingo, and Stephen Hough, in music ranging from Beethoven to Richard Rodgers and Edouard Lalo. His classical career began in earnest in 1959 when he was soloist at Carnegie Hall with Leonard Bernstein and the New York Philharmonic, and he maintains a highly successful singing and teaching career.

I remember meeting Robert White and him signing my program when he was on a UK tour in 1983 with the flautist James Galway at Huddersfield Town Hall... a great night to remember.

What an incredible voice! A Beautiful man! Just a little while ago, listening to radio Lyric FM, Dublin, Ireland.. I heard 'this Voice' singing (i think) Come Into The Walled Garden. So beautiful was this Voice, I had to google the Name.. Robert White, thus heard this Magnificent Interview/ Interviewer! My late Dad told me quite late in Life that he loved the voice of John McCormack. I wasn't really listening as I was too busy.. singing, and lost in singing! Today, he came into my thoughts! I switched to Lyric FM, only to hear the most Beautiful Voice, that of.. Robert White, who sings the Songs of John McCormack! Thank you Dad Peter. Thank you Mr Robert White 📬🎼🌳🌲🍀
