At 79 years and singing like this with the incredible final high note.....it takes my breath away. So many singers arealready unable to do that when 20 or even 25 years younger. Most older singers who have "another try" at higher age, are often unwise and spoil the memory, but 1 out of 100 can pass this "final exam" with excellent marks. So did Robert White. (I remember a German/Austrian soprano, named Renate Holm, who also at 79 sang in a church and she too added a valuable document and proved that only very few can still impress at a very high age.) When they bring you to tears, they not only sang well, they also still managed to cause emotions. Robert, hope you are very well, love from the Netherlands. By the way: we discovered you only now, a new generation of fans!!! Thanks to RUclips! with The Good Old Days and Val Doonican and further , Cantabile 27, brought me here.

That takes me back to the singing of my late father, and his father before him. Both great exponents of the parlour ballad and especially the memory of John McCormack.

I have listened to many singers singing this song but none are better than this, including Roberts younger version. This is the best.

Stephen Hough and Robert White - two of my favourite musicians. Thank you SO much for sharing this special moment. I love this album and listen to it all the time. It has the most beautiful ballads and some beautiful esoteric songs such as 'Song to the Seals' (a song that I normally associate with the Scottish singer, Father Sydney Macewan).

The reason Robert White sounds this good is because he always knew what to sing and how to sing it. The right repertoire and great technique means that a beautiful voice like his stays in shape. Bravo!

I clicked on this thinking he wouldn't sound much good, but I feel ashamed now because he was superb. I used to sing that song, but now at 71 I have no chance of singing anything like as well as that.

Hej Robert and Stephen, The Hyperion CD project (CDA 66818) with the same title "Bird Songs at Eventide" from 1995 is realy one of the best I have in my piano cd collection. A perfect cooperation and balance between voice and piano-accompaniment. Beautiful songs. Thanks!

Great song. Just downloaded it via Scrib and learning it right now. Who sings the Danny Boy at the end of the video?

“"Danny Boy" which is a ballad, written by English songwriter Frederic Weatherly in 1913, and set to the traditional Irish melody of "Londonderry Air".” 🍻
