I agree with you about tubes. You showed me a new application with your weighted hook although it’s similar to shaws tube set up. I always have a tube tied on. It catches fish. Thank You

Great video Matt! Another good bait for some reason I didn’t even consider for the Hover Rigs. These core tackle heads have been revolutionary for me in my BFS game!
Carp are not known for hitting lures but I'm certain the max scent on that plastic was what did the trick. I caught a gigantic 40lb carp 25 years ago in an upstate NY lake on of all things, a spinnerbait. The reason it bit was because right before I casted it, I sprayed the lure with Bang Garlic scent. They love garlic!!!
I rediscovered tubes last year, by accident. Was frustrated that day, just decided to try something completely different for me. 4 largest in the next hour convinced me to dig much deeper. With all the available baits out there, it's easy to get overwhelmed/forget about old standbys like tubes.
I started flipping tubes about 2 years ago during BFLs as a co-angler to get a different look then my boater. My favorite flipping tube is the Big Bite Baits Craw tube in Tilapia. I realized this spring that the 5/0 1/4 and 3/8 oz Ozark Rig works perfectly with this tube and the 4/0 fits perfectly on a 4" standard tube as well. with mid strolling being the thing now have you tried using a shad colored 3" to 4" tube in a shad pattern instead of a minnow bait? Since I couldn't sleep, I tried a 4" Bass pro Magnum tube and figured out the 4/0 Tush works perfectly with it. Granted it is a heavier gauge hook but I would think that the tentacles undulating while you do the shake and reel would work perfectly with those suspended fish.
I've always felt that the tube is an underutilized bait that catches fish. I like to fish them with old school weighted hooks with exposed point, so it's tendency to hang up is high. But now having Mead as my home lake, I've been able to fish these again!
What timing. I just got some little tubes in last month's MTB. I live in the deep south and have never fished a tube. I had some hover rig hooks and gave it a try. The crappie lost their minds. I'll have to try the TUSH.
Great video Matt, I love tubes. Been flipping them in heavy cover so can't use exposed hook. Can you recommend a good hook that I can expose. Primarily use larger tubes like the coffee tube but also drop down to 2 inch when the bite is really Tough. Thank you.
Sorry about your luck Matt. I had a day fishing with a 2inch jerk bait one day and when the bass left the the carp came in and I couldn't tell you how many I caught on that plastic plug until this big 15 or 20lber showed up ad stripped the wires out of the lure. Thanks for sharing what you do bro.
I ALWAYS have a tube tied on one of my spinning rods. I use it because I have confidence in it, can skip it, and I will make it a follow up bait in case strikes miss a different lure!
I’ll be trying the tush in a tube tomorrow. I tried a stupid tube for the first time this year. It’s become my go to when I start snagging and losing jigs. It really is a multi species bite. Pickerel, catfish, snake head, blue gill and largemouth all will bite it.
I actually push the Owner Shakeyhead jighead up a tube and it works hella good as my main finesse presentation. I don’t think fish can say no to it to be honest.
I told the grandson, "I bet it is a carp." I started fishing tubes when the only tubes available were from Bobby Garland. Never gave up on them. The TUSH is a great jig head for the tube.
Always like the smaller crayfishy brown tube. Have caught just about everything decent worth catching in the lake. Hey Matt barefoot in Wisconsin in May? Doesn't happen too often.!
Headed north Saturday. 90% of what we catch and most of the 4lb plus fish are on a 2.75” tube. Try a lot of other things but always come back to the tube.
I like how you caught that smallmouth under the bridge and just..dragged it along with you and the boat as you went under until you reached the other side. lol
I just took 8th as a co in bass nation qualifier 2024 here in La Crosse fishing a tube! Matt McCoy fished the tube 3 days straight for 10th place! Half the people in My club love them!
I hope people keep forgetting about the tube. I catch a lot of fish on it, and I think it’s because the fish do not see it very often compared to other baits.
A local lake has a slot limit . The Conservation Dept request anglers keep bass under the slot of 12 inches. There is no faster way for me to catch a limit than with 2.5" Gitzits 1/8th oz jig head on rip rap banks..
@@MattStefanFishing I enjoy watching your videos Matt, so expect a comment or two from me on them, even if they are older. Some folks make videos and never launch a boat to make it. You always seem to go out and demonstrate what you’re teaching. I appreciate that work ethic. Best of luck dude…
@@MattStefanFishing I tried the strike king bitsy tubes today in green pumpkin and caught a rock bass, a largemouth, a smallmouth and a sheephead (freshwater drum). 4 species in a few hours kayaking! I caught another 5 lb sheephead on a crankbait. They must be in the river spawning. The bass were kinda tiny but still fun to catch. The water was covered in cottonwood seeds. I dont see any videos on what lures or baits to use when that's a problem. Probably gonna use some texas rigs and shakeyheads and other bottom techniques tomorrow.
What broke the rod was the line wrapped around the tip of the rod had that not happened it wouldn’t have mattered were i grabbed the rod because the dragged would have gone out
@@MattStefanFishing Oh, I had that happen to me before with a 7 pound largemouth on a chatterbait. I didn't notice I had the line twisted around the rod tip somehow and the fish blew up on my lure right near the shore, turned into a laydown, and broke my line and heart.
Love the on the water bait dimonstrations thanks Matt.
Glad you like them!

The 3.5inch tube is by far the best bait ive ever thrown year round in all conditions in NY state for Largemouth and Smallies of all sizes
Unpegged btw

@forrhs8430 what's the color
Been using tubes steadily for years. Works real good on a football head jig dragged down the rocky banks in my dirty western (NM) waters.

@7:45, what is a 60 degree line tile?
Line tie angle of the hook
Gene Larew mega ring tube. Sure do miss that one.

Good Stuff Matt,
What size Tush would you recommend for a 2 inch curly tail grub and do you think that would be effective for Crappie/Bkuegill?
TUSh is to bed for the curly tail but you could use the size 4 hover rig
Hey what's that knot you tied your tube on with?
Miller knot
The flying lure are tube baits and they are even more forgotten. The helicopter lure. Banjo minnow and it’s making a comeback
They all catch fish
Dig the rig👍
Thanks!
Matt, where do you get 1/8 oz 60 degree tube jigs?
It’s the Core Tackle Finesse TUSH jighead the link is in the video description
I just hit a decent largemouth on a zoom green pumpkin tube, weightless.

This is asked out of complete ignorance so pardon me. But wouldn't it be easier, and less traumatic to fish, if you used a rubber no tangle net?

In what way. The fish never touched anything if i swing them in our grab the direct from the water. Letting them flop in any net IMO is much worse
