Watching these has started making me think about the soap I use (The typical wax-based bar variety) and I'm wondering how much fat I'm putting down my drains even though I never pour cooking oil or anything like that down them... 🧼⛔😳
This is standard in some places (Particularly Greece) as their drains were only built for pee and poo, so they're only 50mm (2") diameter. Paper (And the 💩 from carb-heavy diets) clogs them up very easily, which is why you have to dispose of it separately. 🧻 This isn't so much the case in Western Europe outside of communes and remote locations (Using septics) and is a very hard thing for us British to get our heads around as a rule, but that's because sewer service has been the default for us for at least the last 150 years so we kinda expect it. 💩🇬🇧😇
"Mr. McKittrick, after careful consideration I've come to the conclusion that your new mic system sucks." Other that that, great content as usual! Hard to believe they got that much buildup in one year....Unless they have a family of ten living there.
I was watching this too thinking, WTF. I know people who go more than a decade between septic clean outs. Hell, I know people who have never done one in 20 years. In my own youth, my parents only did it once. And did it again after I was an adult and gone. So twice in the 50 years that septic system was in service (and still in service today). But then I also wondered if maybe the tanks are just now smaller in size due to some federal or state regulation. Or back in the days in my youth, we didn't have things like sanitize wipes being flushed like we do now. If that family has some young kids, I could see a dozen wipes getting flush down the toilet every day. And yeah, you might end up with a septic system call once a year as wipes are not designed for septic systems. I grew up when cloth diapers were still used. My mother used my old cloth diapers for dust cloth for years afterwards.
I did a test with differnwt toilet papers several years ago to see which dissolves the best, fastest. Angel soft was the best dissolving and that is all we use in our house. I am going to switch out the two toilets in our house to bidet soon here. I had a friend just had his tank pumped and he said the price quadrupled since he had his last done 4 years ago! Im hoping we can go a little longer between pump outs.
There is a guy in my state who does this type of content also on RUclips. He had one client who he charged almost $1000 to due to the difficult layout of the system and getting to it. It was one of those home built on a side of a steep hill and they had to go crazy on the extensions and pumps just to empty his tank, which by default was located further down the hill and not reachable by truck. I literally wondered if the septic tank was put in first and the house then built all around it. And yeah, if it needed to be replaced, I couldn't even imagine how you would go about do that at that particular location.
Septic *systemd* at 12:22? Never realised septic tanks ran Linux! 💩🐧😋 One way of dealing with TP that's been in my mind lately is having a watertight container (Perhaps a 1 gal milk bottle with the neck cut off) half filled with water, into which the TP is dropped. Like a toilet bowl, the water will trap the smell and prevent it from coming into the bathroom. Ideally this is emptied regularly into something appropriate (Ideally a soil pit, if local regulations allow one) from which the water will drain, and the TP (And what's on it) will decompose into the soil, keeping the septic clear. 👍 That said; If the above isn't possible or permitted by local laws, disposable bags and a lidded bin are the next best option. Just make sure it has a closely fitting lid! 😁
I think those home owners need to get their cholesterol checked, or stop dumping grease and oil down the drain. Only other thing I can think of is they have a garbage disposal... and are dumping chunks of fat into it.
