    AM is love, AM is life. I'd be happy to have more of these musing-type videos if the mood strikes you; the meta-why is often just as fascinating as the standard-whys of history and, as you say, severely neglected by many.

    You come extremely close to Schwerpunkt's view of history. Knowing your work I think that you two have much more in common than you think. Have you ever thought about having a conversation on Tradition and the purpose of it? It seems pretty much in tune with this topic as well

      I think that you think that those two think alike far more often than most think.

    Brilliant essay! Are you familiar with the thought of Nikolai Berdyaev. His work The Meaning of History has greatly influenced my outlook on the topic. He reckons that a true and authentic understanding of history comes from understanding it as myth/tradition, and the historical inquiry as a spiritual affair which is not harassed by the "violence of empirical facts".

    6:22 this reminds me of a book I have concerning Norwegians in the American Civil War. Rather narrow.

    • @theeccentrictripper3863
      @theeccentrictripper3863 11 месяцев назад

      More narrow than the space between protons and neutrons lol, how many pages is it?

    • @Vingul
      @Vingul 11 месяцев назад +2

      @@theeccentrictripper3863 it’s 350 pages, lol. There were apparently about 6000 norskies who fought, many or most of them fresh off the boat, quite a few for a small country like Norway.

      Beethoven's Egmont Overture, but in an odd supercharged version. There are many great recordings of this Overture, my own favourite being by Wilhelm Furtwängler.

    1:10 why do people explore 2 kilometre deep caves? Why did we send people to the moon?

  • @willek1335
    @willek1335 11 месяцев назад

    Why? I stopped the video 1:30 to answer. I do it because it's social memory. It's like being an mature person, waking up on a hospital bed with no idea what happened before. Perhaps you have some sort of amnesia, so you try to piece together the puzzle. If you don't have an understanding of who you are, in relation to those around you, your biographies, then you'll walk the world as an idiot. It would madness to me.
