I like the line at 6:11 because, in later chapters, Luffy defines the "Pirate King" as the most free person in the world. It's interesting because, despite his inherently free nature, he feels he's not free enough.
Obviously I disagree with a lot of this, but I appreciate that you took the time to respond. I think Arlong is probably the strongest example of a villain who has real convictions, which complicates what I said. It’s interesting that this is emphasized more in the show (while in the manga, he’s portrayed more as just an evil guy).
Haha, no worries. Hope you weren't too offended. Some of the comments are more for satire purposes. While I joke about pseudo intellectual video essays, I think it's interesting to discuss media in that way. Your video just randomly popped out on my feed, and I was looking for a fun way to talk about One Piece. 😅 What I found lacking was stronger examples of existentialism because if being free and authentic is considered existentialism, then a lot of shonen anime characters (like naruto or goku) should be considered existentialists. If Arlong and Luffy can be radically different and yet be existentialist, then its hard to really pin-point what's the point of calling either an existentialist. Anyway, keep up the good work! 👍
you could say luffy in more in line with the Kantian notion of the knight of faith than anything. theres a certain power to holding to what you believe in right even when the whole world is against you, and it tends to create an upward trend in ones life (har har har). might also want to talk later on discord about your stance on metaphysics. because i wouldn't write off a divine law giver wholesale as a possibility, even if that god is distant like in deism, he still made the rules of the world.
i am on 1:43 and in my humble opinion @Roaming Trend you made me laugh more then anyone ever had, simple and small one liners were great, great work, i love it.
I love to way you put out your points and share your view points. Wonder why you don't get views with such good sense on understanding. Also about One Piece. I am up to date with the anime now ( ep 1080), and I loved your view points on it. I don't agree to everything, but it was worth my time😄👍
Thanks! It's my first response video, so I'm just seeing what I can do. No offense to Jared, his video just popped on my feed and I felt like talking about it (and joke a few times.) :) Maybe it's the Algos. :D
I'm sorry but in what world are the other pirate crews like Buggy or Arlong considered authoritaian?! If anything they are the complete opposite, they are anarchism in practice, using a lack of rules or lack of enforcement to do anything and everything that they wish as far as their power carries them. One Piece makes a strong point about how booth extremes are horrible to live under.

"That tells me more about you, than the show". True story. 😂
