The Slippery Slope of Assuming the Gospel

  • The assumed gospel. It doesn't happen all at once. It's more of a slow shift from that which is essential to that which is peripheral. After time, the gospel gets lost all together. Now I know that not every sermon preached at Pacific Crossroads Church is like this, in fact, I would say that this is the exception and not the rule. However, this particular speaker is two for two in New Year's gospel misses. The Leadership needs to take notice and have a chat with David.

The "Me" centered vocabulary used by Pastors such as "your story" is emblematic of the me-centered generation of the evangelical church. Instead of "denying ourselves" and focusing on God, we hear exhortations of self love, and seeking of our personal dreams. This me-centeredness is also reflected in popular Christian music, songs about our journey rather than songs exalting God such as "How great thou art". I left a Church such as this one a year ago after visiting for several months. The Pastor much like this one spent more time quoting extra biblical sources than he did the Word of God. Sad.Preachers like this would not be in business if people didn't want their ears tickled.

I SUPPORT TRUMP that's becoming more and more apparent in the greater Nashville area where we live. Myself and one of my best friends facilitate a small group and we have had to completely abandon all suggested curriculum our church suggests for this very reason. We took our group through "Rooted" and we were blown away at the me-centeredness the book encouraged. The whole series was peppered with a quasi religious-humanism that focused on "telling your story," and "presenting your conversion story" as a means of sharing the gospel. That book spent 12 weeks equipping the reader to learn how to go out and proclaim a gospel of story telling and human exaltation. After we finished, and had to meticulously correct some flawed theology in the book, we committed ourselves to Sola Scriptura and began a chronological read in Dec of 2018. We just finished with Exodus this month and it's amazing how the group has become more engaged in the application of the lessons we've learned. It's amazing how the Word can transform our passions and desires when it is read and understood in an unadulterated way by the power of the Spirit. I'm saddened by all the false teaching and God dishonoring pep talks the church has embraced. I am thankful however to know that God has preserved his remnant, His committed royal priesthood, to faithfully teach the Word and disciple. I'm thankful that I can watch Bezel's videos as well as countless other teachers on RUclips and be encouraged.

All of these so called pastors of mega churches have one common characteristic and that is pride. It is impossible for them to preach before any congregation without giving a personal experience story along the way and absolutely every time the story ends where they are the hero. Easy now to spot them. You will know them by their fruit. I care to know nothing among YOU but Jesus Christ and Him crucified..........

The 'wise men' knew the prophecy of the coming king, and that drew them. Obviously the Spirit is the 'absolute' behind it all, but it was their desire to find the coming king.
Excited to see the scriptures coming about before their eyes.

My pastor does this too...a million short totally unrelated stories or bits of info that he attempts to tie together with a fragment of scripture, for 45 minutes. Weird. And I would go to another church but this is the best I can do.

G.I.G.O. Stands for, garbage in, garbage out. An old computer programmer's saying. A computer isn't perfect and runs according to an imperfect human programmer. Hence, if you put garbage into it, it will spit out garbage... Yes, I agree about the gospel being a crucial underpinning to any sermon. Even if the sermon covers a topic or is exegeting a scripture that is not a gospel issue, there is always an underpinning of gospel principles that guide the pastor and his sermon, helping to keep him on track.

Nairobi, Kenya; this is where I live my country. Bob must have done a bad job because right now my country is drowning in corruption, even foreign Aid is being swindled. That is the problem of failing to address the real problem; mans rebellion and his sin towards God, to which a faithful Christian shall find that the solution is the authentic gospel of Christ.

Yeah, that last bit where he tacks "...or any number of other things." on after talking about giving your life to Christ, as though there might be even better or more important changes than that which one could experience, is pretty telling about what David believes is at the heart of "Christian faith."

BTW... Didn't Jesus say to His disciples, "You did not choose me but, I chose you and appointed you..." and “I do not speak concerning all of you. I know whom I have chosen; but that the Scripture may be fulfilled, ‘He who eats bread with Me has lifted up his heel against Me.’ also... “Did I not choose you, the twelve, and one of you is a devil?” My point? It appears they were "seekers" after or having been chosen... For scripture does say no one seeks after God. That is, on their own volition... So, you're right, David is wrong about seeking God.... Context is important...

"Leaning in" seems to mean cloaking one's self in an additional layer of self-congratulatory religious piousness & making a point of telling everyone you possibly can about it, so they'll know how "spiritual" (and, in David's case, non-traditional) you are. It's the modern, liberal equivalent of the self-righteous snobbery of the Pharisees, and it's pretty common in sermons that are about the pastor rather than the Lord.

Do Three Cabals Rule the Evangelical Church World? (And can the modern-day Wittenburg Door post be found?) [1/05/2018]
Would these cabals be the Seeker Cabal, the Preacher Cabal and the Meeting Cabal?
What do the following three poems, which address the Seeker, the Preacher and the Meeting Cabal mindset, say about such milk?
Is it time for a class discussion? Should we put on the Krell Thinking Cap Machine? Why? To break out of milk into steak and In That Day Teachings' revelations redounding unto Christ-in-You? Is it time to honor that which is honorable?
Shouldn't seminaries and theological universities be in ACTION mode... attempting to stop graduates from forgetting the Greek, the Latin and the Hebrew... and instead absorbing and out-competing each other with Neuro-Linguistic Programming shenanigans foisted upon unwitting, unbeknownst, innocent, soon-to-be-financially-robbed-via-mind-slaughter sheep?
The answer so far, is that professors at theological universities simply do not have the mind space to think or act above the milk level? Do seminary leaders believe nothing can change, and passively watch graduates become audience manipulator masters?
There is ascendency in Christianity, despite milk methods and manners taught at universities. Have faith for it. It is a restoration!
    See www.inthatdayteachings.com
And see and discuss the following three poems, which address the modern day Seeker Cabal, Preacher Cabal and Meeting Cabal.
Leaders with keen insight... might: Weep. Wail. And Howl. Then believe there is a higher path than to teach (more or less) the Greek-Latin-Hebrew... and then do everything to your consciences to disbelieve that your graduates quickly chuck all that, and devour the dark arts of Neuro-Linguistic Programming audience control. "In That Day Teachings" are a brilliant magnum opus designed to help three to five percent of the entire set of milk churches... to be ascendent and promulgating Christ-in-You. The other 97% of churches stay in milk. It appears God wants 3-5% of churches (and seminaries) to be ascendent in Christ-in-You.
Isn't it time to return intelligence into church preaching? Where there is more intelligence, there is less slavery. Where there is more dumbing down... there is more slavery. State, via Progressive Education, supplies its dumbing down and slavery. Church, so far, seems to encourage its leaders to supply its own brand of dumbing down and slavery. This is Church and State slavery.
When Christ came he said something greater than Solomon was there but nobody noticed. Has anybody noticed "In That Day Teachings?" It has a 3,000 year breakthrough on the understanding of the Book of Job. It has a great revelation that at Christmas time, we can follow the example of seven individuals in Luke 1 and 2 who were filled with the Spirit and most importantly... controlled by the Spirit... in order to avoid kill zones. This is very mature work. Lastly, In That Day Teachings explains that Christ returns more or less continually in some individuals who are like unto the bible's "holy saints." And that this is teachable.
So far, leaders in Christianity yawn. Yawning and crickets is all that can be heard. In That Day's truths cannot be gainsaid.
The problem is, there is no Wittenburg Door to post anything on. In fact, there are few minds which would pay attention to anything worthy of comparison to Luther's original genius. It has been 500 years. God provides, and he has provided. A website can be the equivalent to the Wittenburg Door. That website's name is www.inthatdayteachings.com . Why have ye no faith?
Now it is up to the Gatekeepers to wake from a too deep slumber. No mortal can make them do it. They must awaken themselves.
    Hoping All in Christ,

    17115 Castle Pine Court

    775-690-7293 cell

P.S. Here are the three poems, made to awaken slumbering church minds. These poems expose the Seeker Cabal, the Preacher Cabal and the Meeting Cabal. Enjoy, discuss and do contact the author. Cheers!
