Thank you, it worked perfectly. I used an O-ring plier to open it. Be aware that you need a very hot solder iron to desolder the two wires. Best above 450 degree celcius if you want it to be quick and clean. It's actually not impossible to reuse the old cable and the "cable thingy" that the cable attaches to. Just pull out the old wires, drill the wholes for the ground a bit larger for easier re-installment, cut the cable some centimeters away from the broken part, put on a bit of heat shrinking tube for later, twist up the ground wire, solder the end very fine, put the wires through the "thingy", protect the ground with heat shrinking tube, solder the two wires back on and heat the shrinking tube on the cable near the power supply.
Hello. Followed your instructions, very simple to repair, even easier if you crack off the grey in power dock with a fine blade. Everything fits back together . Thanks
Does not go back together but a couple well placed and tight zip ties do wonders. If you super glue it you may not get it back apart if you need to replace it again. So you might consider filing a few notches around the brick in a few places so when you zip it the zip will not slip. Pop the zip if you need to do this again.

Good instruction. One step before applying crazy glue. Test the charger. Also, would like to know from the poster if Megasafe charger in 60 watt and 87 Watt could be converted to Megasafe 2 using the power chord assembly and method? That would be very helpful info. Good luck
The lenghts apple goes to to force you to buy the whole thing instead of repairing it. They couldve made the wire detachable in the first place. Shitty company!
Just finished the swap out. Plugged it in and attached to MacBookPro. The light on the end lit-up green but flashes -- it flashes briefly at 2-sec interval. The Charge lightning bolt on the screen goes on and off in time with the green light as it goes on and off. Thoughts?
Are you talking about the soldering iron? Make sure to use a good quality one, don’t keep the heat on the board too long, let the solder melt and quickly remove the wire.

@@TheFixTech Since the fake magsafes also have the round metal ground pin, i wonder if buying an apple extension cord would make the missing connection: www.apple.com/au/shop/product/MK122X/A/power-adapter-extension-cable or would that metal button not actually be grounding ?
The trackpad jitters from aftermarket chargers because of the inconsistent voltage spikes, I would not bother buying just the cable, you can find original chargers for around $25. Better safe than sorry. You can even find them cheaper if they need to be rebuilt.
The trackpad jitters are from harmonic distortions caused by insufficient filtering of the power conversion from AC to DC. Adding a ground will not fix that. The only reason a ground is present on the power cord (from the wall to the adapter) is in case the connection between the power cord and the adapter were to come in contact with water which is why a ground pin is not present on the factory-supplied plug accessory that eliminates the cord altogether and allows you to plug the adapter directly in to the wall.
I made de grave mistake of swapping the black and white wires. The dc-in stopped working. Does anyone know if a new jack/dock would fix it or if I’d need a new dc-in board altogether?
Rare to see a RUclips how to video that really makes you not want to take on a project. Why not just cut the wire outside the charger, cut the new wire and attach with a butt plug.
A word of caution: my Magsafe charger proved very hard to open, its plastic halves being welded together. It is better to run a sharp knife several times thru the seams, in order to weaken the welding; otherwise, you can end breaking a lot of the Magsafe and contemplating the purchase of a new one. Getting into the actual electronics is no easy task, as tolerances are quite tight and there's a lot - A LOT - of metal foil, glue and some plastic resin whose only purpose seems to be making sure things inside were not susceptible to vibration. Unless you are really experienced at electronics repair, you are better off buying a new one.
I find this discouraging to people who wants to try this out. I did it to a 45W and 85W MagSafe chargers and it turned out beautifully. I have little to none electronic experience but with carefully following the tutorial, I was able to come out successful.
And all Apple had to do was make a cord like every other company in the world and this wouldn't be necessary. But no, they had to pick cheap crap that falls apart.
Of course you used "flux core" solder. However, you should have told viewers it was "rosin core" instead of "acid core". Other than that, nice job! Thanks!
Hi there! I just did a repair on a charger and after mount everything together I have a problem. The charger seems to work but after 30 seconds or so it stops. I check the cables and are not inverted but I don't know what is happening. thank you!

this is not a quick and easy fix. you used a lot of tools. instead of ripping the charger with plier and causing damage to the body , you could have used a hair dryer to loosen the glue. then instead of re soldering you could have just connected the ends with the new wire. so this video is not for the common people

The amount of Glue they use and how strong said glue is, it's a little bit ridiculous, thye pride on being environmentally friendly company but they could use a little less glue and save it for the next one in the process, what a waste.
Agreed, Apple is full of it. They like to talk up the sustainability of their products but then design them in such a way that they're not repairable and have to be thrown out. Real sustainability is in the right (and ability) to repair.

Just curious if using a hair dryer to soften the adhesive will help opening the case or not?
Unfortunately, no. These are molded together, not glued.

The holes should be there, melt and remove excess solder blocking the holes

What about the issue with non-Apple magsafe chargers giving the trackpad the jitters ?
Is there a fix for that (ground wire ?)
Sorry, not sure. Best to use Apple brand charger and refurbish is needed. Other dangers may occur otherwise.
