There are several excellent presenters of the horror genre on RUclips, nearly all of them British. Here is a newcomer who has emerged fully formed as if out of some preternatural metamorphosis, his delivery on that higher order which includes vocal characterizations. He is welcome here.
Yes, he is near the top, if not the very best, in my opinion. Sherlock Holmes Magpie is an equal tie for the Sherlock Holmes stories; I don't mind mentioning him here though, because he doesn't really do horror, so it isn't like competition, lol. In horror though you keep excelling your previous performances. Every month you get better and better.
THIS is exceptional reading. While the title and the story caught my attention, it was the reading that mystified me to listen all the way to the end. I was simply transfixed.
His voice is transfixing; I think I have mentioned that myself. You feel as if you are sitting at a table with him, and he is telling you a story he heard about a neighbor that he knows he shouldn't be repeating. His sotto voce technique is unparalleled.
Fantastic story and narration! This is a truly fantastic tale and is now one of my favorite vampire stories. This and "Four Wooden Stakes" are two of my favorites. You did a fantastic job! The background noise and music are spot on! British authors can write like no other, and British narrators can narrarate like no other. My three favorite narrators are all from across the pond. Fantastic job, sir Jasper!
I've just been reading about Australia locking down again 😪 Definitely best, at the moment, to retreat into a world of vampires and ghouls 😱 Thank you for subscribing 😊
Thanks Wild Birds. Yes, The Wishing Well doesn't often get an airing. I like Benson's Cornish tales. Perhaps if I stick at this channel long enough I'll get round to it 😊
I love vintage type vampire stories. One of my favorite stories is the vampire of Croglin Grange. Not much is creepier than a summertime vampire who doesnt need invitation. I like these slightly shorter stories, I hope you do more 20 minute stories.
Awesome. Your storytelling creating mental imagery, it's like watching a movie - one, of course, with two of the inimitable three : Price, Cushing, and Lee. I'm very impressed with your talents. Well done 👍.
This has always been one of my horror favorites, and I've read/ listened to it many times ( like Negotium Perambulans, there's something so perfect about it; like a perfectly faceted jewel). Your delivery, however, is exceptional. I really didn't think my enjoyment of this classic could be enhanced in any way, but you have achieved it! Brilliant! Edited: Listening to it again 3 months later. Love this story! and your brilliant recording.
Thanks wmnoffaith 🙏 One of the first I recorded, so you can tell I held this story in high regard too. I love the character of Mrs Amworth. I think it was actually quite a bold choice by Benson to make the vampire a perfectly pleasant, likeable, and ordinary woman.
E.F. Benson, my favorite author of the macabre, and Mrs. Amworth is one of my personal favorites. This channel is turning into an addiction. I'm so thankful it isn't porn or meth.
Thank you, June! Glad you liked it. I've uploaded some other less well-known stories over the last few days...and there will be more E.F. Benson coming soon. Have a good day :)
Lesson learned! It’s the writer in me once I start I can’t stop! Do you know what I love about this channel and Tony’s, which are enough for me because I’m addicted! The fact that it’s like period drama/vintage and very very British! This is my favourite form of entertainment at the moment! I balance it out though with spiritual lovey-dovey stuff! Just in case you want feedback: Would love to know what period the author came from in the description but it’s okay it’s not necessary I could Wikipedia it! I just want to be more familiar with these authors! This is all new to me and I am loving it! Another fantastic job! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
@@EnCryptedHorror you don’t have to do that because I said it but I always look because I want to learn about these authors so yes it would be a fantastic idea! I would like to thank you for all The amazing work and how you put your all into everything! I’m a super fan! I will give you some peace for a few days but I’ll be listening to your stories! Blessings!🦋
I am not normally a fan of vampire fiction, but this is a terrific tale and superbly done! Happy new year to you from a newcomer to your channel who has quickly become a devotee.
Hello Kate 👋 glad you've found me, and glad you enjoyed the story! I think E.F. Benson was quite inspired when he moved the vampire from its gothic setting to a quaint English village and made her a pleasant middle-class woman. (Happy New Year to you too!)
What a wonderful way to read the book as a non-native. You helped me tremendously with the pronunciation. Subscribed! The acting was very entertaining. I would suggest lowering the background noises so that your voice pops out more.
Thank you for your kind words. This was one of the first stories I recorded so hopefully my sound mixing is getting better as I go along. Why not check out some of my recent uploads? Glad you enjoyed it anyway. Thanks for subbing...and welcome to my channel! 👋
I tell a lie, this channel, Tony’s and bite sized audio! I didn’t like that one that Man recommended- it was to American and Too American, I am half American so I can say that!
@@Tipi_Dan personally I love the pronunciation. It's exactly what I'm looking for in Victorian and Edwardian English stories. I wouldn't want them Cockney.
Jasper, you are a narrator of great distinction, many thanks for your wonderful work :)
Thank you so much. I've been really enjoying your podcast!
Agreed. I’ve just discovered this channel, and I’m simply hooked on this gentleman’s considerable talents! A lovely selection of stories, too.

Thanks for that review, Tipi! 😊 I must say I rather like the idea of emerging from a preternatural metamorphosis 🤣
Well said.

A chilling story from the great E F Benson.Wonderful narration.
Brilliant narration! ☆
They made an short film of this in the mid-70s with Glynis Johns. Seen it: it is very good.
Superb reading of this classic English vampire tale - perfectly captures EFB's combination of the raffish and the macabre.
Thank you kindly, glad you enjoyed it!
I can't thank you enough for these stories!
I recall in the 70s a TV was made of this story. Quite good for the time. As a child I recall playing with a pick axe looking to destroying vampires.
Yes, the wonderful Glynis Johns played Mrs Amworth in that adaptation, I believe. The 70s were a golden age for horror on TV.

Great voice work L'Estrange. Vivid, larger than life characters. Urcombe seemed to me reminiscent of Paul Whitehouse's conceited surgeon lol.

@@EnCryptedHorror Those are the aspects that make this channel one of the best channels on RUclips!!

Good old E F. Well read too.
Love me some EFB.
Your productions were always great, but you keep adding new levels of quolity with the sound effects .
Another great reading! Is it just me or was she supposed to be buried without a casket🤔
The reading was fine but I found the sound effects very distracting.

Who else got serious Salem's lot vibes from this story?

Just read the bloody thing without the pretentious, mangled accent. It doesn't need it. Unlistenable and poncy. 😕
Thanks Bob. There are plenty more audiobooks on RUclips - something to suit all tastes, in fact - but thanks for leaving a comment anyway.
But it's received pronunciation, isn't it? With L'Strange a name as Norman as 1066 (whether received or assumed), what else would you expect?
