    Done My sill repair now using an ebay £150 mig welder. Disconnected the under seat cab batteries before starting to weld. Local garages didn't want to do the welding. Nice to know I can replace a rotten panel in the future myself. Van has now passed the MOT.

      That's excellent mate! Anything is possible if you put your mind to it and just take a gamble. What's the worse that can happen? Break it? It's already broke 🤪 top class job!

    nice job, i used a panel flanger (steps the panel) and punch tool, instead of butt weld, it worked pretty good,

      Panel flangers are a great tool. Since this video was created I have now purchased a flange / hole punch tool and an air nibbler. 😁 I did use them for the SWB TRANSIT project but unfortunately I didn't record any of it. 🤦‍♂️ Thanks for the comment 👍

    Hi, for alignment purposes you could have spot welded a strip of the same metal material behind the cut on your original bodywork which would have made alignment a whole lot easier for you and added more strength to the finished weld without worrying too much about distortion. great job though, i admire your can do get it done attitude. great stuff here. swaging tools are great but a nightmare when it comes to a vertical seam. Cheers. Andy Strathaven Scotland.

    Well done pal turned oot good and esp at the side of the road.. ten times easier obviously on a ramp at head height. Completely backward way of doing it tho and made yir life 10x harder than it had to be haha but never mind.. long as the jobs done bud doesn’t matter how u get there.. cheerz for vid..

    Great video and detail..why did you grind above the new section when you clamped it on??
    thanks
    about to start a rusty sprinter with a gas less Mig..

    • @abilityshare9294
      @abilityshare9294  Год назад +1

      The grind at the top of the panel is so you have a clean surface to join both materials together but also to try and move the paint out the way so it doesn't burn with the heat that will be in that area. 👍 Good luck with your project and I hope the gasless mig will work ok on the thin sheet metal. ☺️ Defo let me know how you get on with it. 👨‍🏭

    Guys I've owned many mark 7 trannies and I've come to the conclusion that I'll never buy a white one again as they are made from old soup cans. Right now I have 2 exact same vans with almost the same miles on clock. Both bought brand new and both live in same area. The white one is rotting underneath and needs major welding whereas the black metallic one is in almost perfect condition underneath. It would seem some are made from better stuff.

    • @abilityshare9294
      @abilityshare9294  2 года назад

      I wonder what the difference is? It can't be the metal but maybe it's a better quality paint? Or even just more of it? 🤔

    • @mikewatt8706
      @mikewatt8706 2 года назад

      @@abilityshare9294 why could it not be the metal. Lighter grade with less steel maybe and it looks like my metallic black van has been treated underneath

    • @abilityshare9294
      @abilityshare9294  2 года назад

      Was thinking just from a factory point of view, surely the same models would all be made with the same sheet metal or there was maybe a batch made from a different supplier? Just guessing to be fair. 😊 Another coat of undersell might be helping your black van as well, unless you just can't see it and it's just as bad as your white one. Hopefully not.

    Hi pal, I’ve got the same van, had it for 6/7years, just got an advisory for rusty sills.
    Wanu get them done like youve done here. Brand new all round up about 4” just like what you have done here.
    What kind of bill should I be expecting for the welding. He,s told me £500 for body work an re-spray. But the welding he said would have to get it up on the ramp and survey it first before giving me a price.

    • @abilityshare9294
      @abilityshare9294  2 года назад +1

      I can't really tell you how much it will cost for you to get someone to do it but it is very time intensive and some of the repair panels are cheap enough but I would get the galvanised ones if you can, however the repair panels all be it "cheap" they start to add up. I just finished welding a SWB transit on all 4 corners and was up at £300 I'm sure just for some repair panels the rest I tried to fabricate in house to try help keep costs down. Sadly the rust you see is not all the rust there is. 😥 I spent about 7 days in total welding the SWB Transit.

    • @techscrew2
      @techscrew2 2 года назад +1

      @@abilityshare9294 thanks for your reply.
      If your saying that il judge it at another £500 for welding then Cheers. No offence to yourself, but if the garage are doing stuff like that all the time they maybe do it a bit quicker. As you say depends how bad it is.
      Cheers pall best of luck with RUclips.
      And for the advice.

    • @techscrew2
      @techscrew2 7 месяцев назад

      Well it’s about a year since I commented on this video, with regards to be having a rusty transit, I never got the work done on the advisory so we have just failed!
      I’ve gone ahead and bought new sills, new front arches, new rear quarters.
      And a mig welder, and a few basic welders tools.
      I managed to get all the panels for £160 total. A welder and bits and bobs £135.
      With a few tins of paint and blacker, Probly hit the £350 mark. luckily I have other tools to hand such as grinder etc, drills and other things.
