    Just bought 4 panels 4 days ago, and it has made a tremendous difference in my sound. My room is 19x14, but I have extremely low ceilings due to ductwork in my basement. It was wreaking havoc on my Atmos effects. Now I’m totally happy with my Denon6800. I thought it was a waste of money until I installed the panels. I haven’t even run Audessey again yet. Going to soon purchase Dirac and then see how much better sound I’ll get. The mirror test works like a charm. Thanks a lot TD!!!

      @ What I failed to mention is that the panels also cut down on the brightness of the tweeters of my LCR’s. The tonal balance is way more evened out now. I plan to put some more ATS 12”x12” panels in the rear sides for the SB and Rear Atmos speakers. I hope it won’t be overkill. Next will be bass traps for my 4 Monolith thx 12” subs.

    Where are you standing when looking into the mirror to see the reflection of the speaker. Where you stand will give a different reflection.

      Great observation! I am sitting in my main listening position, which is why I said to have a friend help you with this. You’re going to need two people, one to sit in the MLP and one to move the mirror.

    Nice job. Looks pretty cool, too.
    After repositioning my couch away from its back wall within my small 13 x 11.5 ft living room, I suddenly became aware of the rear reflections. Experimented by placing a thick blanket on the rear wall. Yeah, it got rid of the rear reflections. However, I noticed some depth within my two channel sound stage had gone! Managed to kill two birds with one stone with a 50/50 diffusion/absorption panel.

    Nice addition to your space there Channa. - I went really cheap and installed some (free!) pieces of egg-carton shipping foam and they made a big difference. Cheers Dude!

    Acoustic panels make all the difference. I put 13 of them into my basement movie room, including 2 on the ceiling.

      @@TechnoDad After using the reflection technique I placed loose panels wherever I could hear distorted sound, then fastened them in place. Worked like a charm!

    That air gap doubles the effectiveness of the panel. The sound that still gets through bounces off the wall and back through the panel again

    I have my theatre setup in a small house. I have 3 subs in front but can barely hear bass where my couch is. It sounds really nice behind couch closer to back wall but that is where my diner is. Is there a way to reflect deep bass sounds more to the center of the room where my couch is? Any help is appreciated. Thanks

    • @TechnoDad
      @TechnoDad  4 месяца назад

      Sounds like you have a null where you sit. Might be a good idea to experiment with subwoofer placement.

    • @Kahuna9889
      @Kahuna9889 4 месяца назад

      Do the subwoofer crawl and move those subs around. Placement is key. Gotta find those reflections.

  • @D1Calderon

    So you placed on the side walls? What do you recommend for the back? I have a 7.1 setup at the moment. Or was that enough to notice a difference?

    • @TechnoDad
      @TechnoDad  3 месяца назад +1

      Yes, the first reflection point will be on the sidewalls. The back has one panel on it, but not much else.

    Another sharp, well made vid, TD 👍 Question - have you considered extra air gap/buffer, as some beleive in, or is there little point?

    • @TechnoDad
      @TechnoDad  4 месяца назад

      I hear it makes a difference, in fact I was sent a link about a test that confirms the air gap does more.

    For health reasons, cover the back of the panel with some netting or fabric. I built my own 24x48 owens corning 703 panels and it can cause you to feel a little throat irritation or cough, covering the back helped tremendously.

    Are there acoustic panels that reduce sound traveling through walls or are these just for internal reflections?
    The reason I ask is because I'm thinking of getting a basic 5.1 setup for my apartment and if there's a straightforward way to reduce the impact on my neighbors, I want to consider it

    • @ChadAV69
      @ChadAV69 5 месяцев назад +1

      Those panels will just reduce reflections. You can't really stop sound from going through walls unless you build a room inside of a room.
      I have a 5.1 in an apartment and basically you just have to be conscious of bass. My solution is to have the front speakers away from the wall about 1-2 feet, and I just have my subwoofer directly behind my head. I had 3 subs placed around the room but kept getting complaints so I came up with that solution and it works well. No one can hear any bass unless you sit on the sofa in front of the subwoofer. I haven't gotten any complaints since I did this and I have measured 80-100db of bass at my MLP when watching a movie.

      @@ChadAV69 Thanks for the tip! I'll have to bear that in mind when I'm placing my speakers

    • @TechnoDad
      @TechnoDad  5 месяцев назад

      Hi Pocketkid, Chad said it already. These panels are for taming reflections in the room. If you wanted to deaden sound in the room, you would need to add material inside the walls to actually 'sound proof' the room. I am in a shared office, so I don't start making noise until after 5 pm as to not disturb everyone else.
