I went in 2003 as part of the Collings Forum group. It was fun! I took my '92 Clarence White and Bruce- the wood guy- immediately said "Lyle Wood!". Evidently, there were 4 guitars made from that piece of wood. Mine, Lyle Lovett's, and- amazingly- another falconer that I knew from Florida! I forgot the 4th person. Bill knew who I was and offered me some Titebond Exceed (or whatever it is that was made for him) to try and I said "I appreciate it but I don't want to get addicted to it and be dependent on you for my supply". He laughed.
Great video as always. This is off topic but I wondered if you have any updates on the Martin DM you purchased for your son? You said you were going to make few minor improvements on it. I searched using DM and Martin DM in your video section but nothing showed. Anyway, Happy, Healthy New Year to you and your loved ones.
Well, he stuck with it and progressed really well. So for Christmas I gave him the shop '72 D-18 and '73 D-23. Probably selling the DM someday. It remains stock for now.
I'm not a Collings Expert, but from what I've seen: 80-90.... normal weight, seem a bit more open 00's.... got heavy, bright, and less responsive 10's... getting lighter again, going for more "vintage" tone on some
I think the Martin has more mids giving it a fatter sound, anyone who spends more time soloing than rhythm would probably do better with the Collings. Imho
What a great way to start the new year with a video from my favorite RUclips Guitar Guru! Great to see you posting again and Happy New Year!
That 41' has always been one of my favorites.
It's been a VERY popular guitar in the videos.
Happy New Year!! Thanks for the comparison!
I owned a Collings and got to tour the factory and Bill Collings himself set it up. He used to take his customers to the Salt lick BBQ after the tour

Martin braces seems to be thicker in width but more scalloped
Possibly!

How have Colllings voicings changed over the years? I had a 97 D1A that was like no other Collings I ever played…

I agree!
