I mean a full recovery video would probably be extremely educational, especially for younger people or those newer to parkour. People don't realise just how much you have to take care of your body and how much downtime it needs, especially from high impact activities. The transparency is refreshing and I very much hope that you'll take the time to get back to health because the last thing you want to do is have compound injuries that mean you can't do parkour ever again. Take it from someone who had health stuff remove my capacity for training and competing. Don't take your body for granted or you might end up losing the ability to do the things you love.
I also don't think that maintenance as it pertains to parkour is highlighted enough. By maintenance I mean those things you do to make sure you can continue to function to the level you wish too. Anyway, speedy recovery and practise self care.

I'm always interested in recovery/PT especially for top athletes like yourself. Those kinds of exercises always seem like nice baby steps that most anyone could try out and I think they are an underexplored area of improving one's general abilities outside of the more explosive/impressive exercises. I've heard from family and friends that they can also be a way of learning about one's own body and how it works. I'd definitely enjoy a full routine breakdown.

@@Jnigo I just checked it out, its a good video, but it's not really conditioning / rehab in my personal opinion. From my personal expierence once I tore ligaments in my knee, i had to go search for answers, especially because parkour puts you in so many different positions. Your fisios only help you so far for ex. Eversions/ Inversions, stability drills.
But guys like Calum for ex. Post pogo hops ( which help build up your tendons ), Kneeovertoesguy program has worked really well for my knee and there is for ex. Actual studies done on the Nordic curl, which was never prescribed by my fisios to me.
To conclude it really helps if these top guys share more of these " behind the scenes " training, cause we all can bust our ankle like dom and make the same mistake as him and continue to train, when you might need to look more into rehab etc. The more we share these protocols, might help with longevity and staying inlove with the sport😄

I know it's hard to face the realities of aging and injuries, but caution and care are the way to get the best outcome.
I am a long way from an athlete. I am a retired English teacher with a chronic disease (Relapsing Polychondritis) that comes with an ever-changing variety of pains and other bizarre symptoms; I've had to learn to see all plans as conditional--IF my body is up to it, I can do it. I have a LOT of limitations, but, like you, if I ignore or minimize the symptoms, the consequences affect lots of future opportunities. It's rarely worth it. LISTEN UP when your body says, "Not today," so you can be ready for another day. We only get one body. We must prioritize our well-being and give our bodies the care they need to be healthy.
    Sending you BIG LOVE, Dom.

Alot of pro athletes really destroy their bodies during their peak so seeing you perform at the top levels in a sport that is this demanding, taking huge drops and bails while doing it for so many years is really impressive and it would be a shame to see that hinder you in the future. Obviously there's tons of training behind the scenes to be able to take this kinda drops and make these incredible jumps that could lead to permanent injuries if you hadn't gone through the training. Take as much time as possible and then some more for rehabilitation.

I got the video recorded from 2 angles XD funny enough I haven't had too much pain after the initial 3 weeks of the muscle damage healing, it was 2 and a half months ago and I am feeling fine, still getting range of motion back but the knee feels strong, no instability or pain, if it wasn't for the MRI I would not suspect that anything really serious happened. I was the same way w/ my body as a BMX rider and I have completely broken myself on multiple occasions over the years, I can honestly say that unless you plan on dying at a young age I advise against trying to break yourself because now I'm in my 40s and I have a lot of physical problems from cracking joints to lymphedema that nearly took both legs.... I still have injuries that I have never had fixed and I have to actively fix if I crash or anything, like my shoulder was messed up very badly and I refused surgery to "fix" it so now sometimes I'll be doing something normal and my shoulder just falls out of socket or my hip gets stuck and I have to unlock it before I can walk to having knocked teeth out. LoL
I'm not saying don't be crazy like me, I'm just saying don't skip rehabilitation or repairs if you plan on being in a high impact sport like parkour or BMX or skateboarding for as long as possible.... I still ride occasionally but nothing like I was 10 years ago, the physical damage has gotten to a point where I can't wear out my joints any more because the cushions are gone so take care of yourself. 😁👍

Defo would be interested in seeing your full recovery routine. I've just spent 2 years trying to gain back ankle mobility after neglecting 3 injuries, to my left ankle/foot. 2 from 28 and 27 years ago, and another about 5 years ago. 26 years of having limited mobility in the left ankle and foot created long term tightening of the knee, hip and lower spine. I wish I had taken a break and worked on getting full mobility back rather than pushing on and insidiously losing more and more mobility up the chain. The more recent injury, was an acute twist on some steps... it felt bad but then it seemed ok so went climbing, got a PB and the following morning went driving for 12 hours (work)... This didn't help at all, and probably added several months to my recovery. At some point I might do a video on how an old git like me can still recover from injury, but how it is nowhere near as easy or quick compared to when you are under 25. So I know just how bad it can actually be, just try and be very present and honest with yourself about how you wanna spend the next 5-10+ years of your life… As I had spinal surgery in 2012 to help with my scoliosis, and like you I didn’t do any physio work after the surgery, as I’d never done anything like that before and I was ‘fine’, so why would this be any different?🤷🏻‍♂️ Well I had my surgery with a 6-12 month recovery afterwards, and I was completely bed bound for the first 2 months after the surgery…
And since then I’ve been entirely dependent on my wheelchair, and I don’t have any real regrets in my life, but not doing physio after that spine op, or any physio after the operation I had to tighten both of my ankle tendons 13 months later, really are my only regrets throughout my 24 year long life so far… Trust me Dom, you need to do the physio, maybe even surgery on them (it wouldn’t surprise me at all tbh…) As annoying, and as frustrating, and as painful as it is, you don’t wanna go from where you were at in 2020/2021 to being completely wheelchair bound bro I promise you on that shit… It’s a LOT harder than people EVER expect it to be (both physically and mentally, trust me…)
And also, not to rub salt in the wounds AT ALL… But you’re also 30, closing in on 31, obviously you still have a LOT let in the tank, but that won’t last for forever will it unfortunately, and working through injuries as bad as these will only shorten that time you’ll be able to work like this for won’t it?
Obviously I’m not a doctor or nothing, but in my opinion and from experiences with my spinal and ankle surgeries, you should at least look into surgery on the left ankle for sure, and then actively recover from it afterwards, and maybe even surgery on the right ankle too! And just make sure that you take the proper steps needed to recover from them as best as you can do, obviously your parkour will take a massive dip, but in my opinion it’s better to take a dip in ability whilst you recover if it extends the length of time you’ll be able to do this incredibly sport for🤷🏻‍♂️
And trust me on this mate, future Dom will either love you or hate you for it depending on whether or not you take the proper measures to recover from these injuries or not… As you know, your ankles are literally everything in the sport you do, and you need them for almost everything you do, so you need to protect them as best as you can… And you just need to keep being honest and strict as fuck with yourself really… Think about future Dom and how he wants to spend the next 10 years +, do you wanna still be doing these big massive flips and what not that you’re known for? Obviously you do, but if you keep ignoring your injuries and what not, you’re not going to be able to are you? As I said before, obviously physio is a pain in the ass, it’s boring as fuck, you only feel worse for it at first, and you don’t notice it helping you at all at first either… But if you don’t do it you’ll be in a LOT worse of a place than you would be if you did it, and the earlier you catch the injury the better (obviously).
I wish you nothing but the absolute best moving forwards, andddd I’m sorry for typing out a fucking novel here🙃🤣
Also one final thing, my mum said hello back to you🙋🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♂️

Same thing happening to me with my knee, over probably years of training and thinking that I was doing enough to keep them from damage, I had actually been building up scar tissue, which I am now working to break down with low impact/low weight squats and deep tissue massages. Sometimes I feel alright and I wanna do some jumps but the weakness and pain comes fast and reminds me what I’d been doing wrong all along

Thank you for this kind of video! Inspiriting me to get back on my feet the proper way. (some exercises to get my ankles warmed up would be nice too, atleast when I'm no longer non weight bearing!) If anyone unsubscribes just because you have a bit of a setback is on them. Showing the risks and the costs of beeing at your level is educational as well. I have never done parkour but I have been injured a lot in other various sports or stupid stunts in my youth and boy how easy it is to skip the proper rehab and think "Nah, it'll be fine!" and not letting things heal properly.
And also your videos where you are not the main subject of the video is also entertaining. It's nice to see you lifting other people up.
So as I see it, even if you have really bad luck and never going to do insane stunts again, I belive you can still have a fantastic and thriving youtube channel and brand.

The sad reality about Parkour is it’s for the most part, a young man’s game just like most sports that require you to compete at the highest level. It’s just not sustainable for our bodies to endure that much stress/impact on a frequent basis without any consequences. Speaking from experience, once you hit late 20’s early 30’s, it’s a slow and gradual decline. That’s when your body starts telling you it can’t take the same kind of impact you used to be able to take when you were younger. That’s when you really have to start listening to your body and start taking care of it whether that’s rest, proper nutrition, physio, massages, stretching, yoga etc. I’ve been in Dom’s shoes before so I really feel for him. Rest well and thank you for continuing to inspire us all! 🖤💪

Oh yeah give us the full recovery video. I have the same mind set of grind out the pain. Roll an ankle, work it hard and careful till sure enough to do something. I over extended my left arc doing a precision and it still after 2 months gives me grief. I pretend it isn't there, but also am over using my right foot and scared of overextending again. I dunno, I understand your mindset of working through the pain, but I'd really like to just recover. I cant really afford medical treatment but should prolly be on PT. Show us your routine for free healthcare. It'd be super nice of you. Also imma follow and like.

As a trainer and mentor to young athletes, it's so so important they see these types of videos, they know your process. I think it would be great to share your routine but just to share your thoughts openly and honestly like this is great. Would love to see videos like this more often from you because you are such a passionate and eloquent speaker. A true pillar of the community and ambassador for the sport. Please remember some people are here for the jumps, but those of us who are here for the long haul are here for you.

Thank the gods Dom, that you turned the corner!!! I am so so glad to hear that you are on the road to full recovery. Going THROUGH the pain is not the way, believe me. Ruined my ankle doing sports (Kendo) to a degree, that I got a permanent inflamation, then lost the upper ankle joint (because I trained to a point that the cartilage is gone). The upper join is now plastic and titanium, proper cyborg stuff... and because that stuff cannot regenerate but only deteriorate my sporty days are over.
Let that be a cautionary tale, dear readers! You can train through some pain (exhaustion, bruises, cut skin) but pain that is related to bone/tendon inflammation is never a smart move! Your body is telling you something. Listen to it.

You single handedly changed the sport of Parkour, with your amazing athletics and fearlessness to do things , most people considered impossible. Many of the things you have done, could have ended in death or at least crippling injuries, had you erred a minute amount. I have truly been in awe of your abilities and confidence, but there comes a day when a man needs to realize it is over. Instead of seeing you do a few more tricks and destroy your body , I would like to see you write your life story, possibly with a ghost writer, and start talking to people about making a movie about you. I think if you took a video of your highlights around to the right people in the movie industry they would see the appeal and be on board right away. The hero doesn't always need to be carried out on his shield , You have had a fascinating, exciting life, you are very charismatic and people want to like you. That is invaluable. {make sure you have someone in charge of your money you trust and that knows what they are doing, so many people have gotten wealthy and had it lost or taken immediately because of those 2 things. Best wishes to you , whatever you choose to do and I will pray for you.

  • @mikelazure7462
    @mikelazure7462 Год назад

First - I don't subscribe simply because of the huge stuff - there are plenty of dudes out there doing huge stuff - but they are not doing the humour, they are not doing the charisma, they are not doing the 'coaching and encouragement' - I watch YOU because of who you ARE, not only because of what you do. Almost all 'extreme' athletes get injured, have form slumps, get performance dips and dry times - anyone who pays attention, as a spectator, knows this and does not begrudge an athlete those 'off' seasons. Thanks for the transparency and it was encouraging to hear you identify your poor choices along that path - that is the only way to avoid the same choices next time around. Something 'like' this was likely to happen to you at some point, either simply because of the level you function at or simply because age shifts the bodies capacities and this can trip up athletes working at the dangerous edge of human potential, as they age. The question going forward will be - what did you learn and how well did you learn it? You are an enthusiast and a DOer - both traits that make it hard to step back, say 'no', not jump in. Finding the balance of who you are and how you "do you" AND how to give yourself maximum longevity is one of those seriously personal things that seems different for every athlete. I looked at various of those photos of your ankles and shuddered at the damage that level of bruising and swelling implied. Astonishing that you could keep doing even half of what you do, on those ankles. You are a national treasure (Unrecognised treasures are still treasures.) so I kinda hope you look after yourself so you have longevity to spare.

    Recovery breakdown video please…
seeing “one of the best” needing to take the necessary time to heal & recover, could be the necessary inspiration some young practitioners might need to do the same and give their recovery the necessary time and understanding needed to get back to their training & be just like their favorite athletes & practitioners.
Letting them know that; healing is also part of the journey of “being the best”.

It's so important that parkour athletes talk about injuries because the next generation has to go in with an awareness of the dangers. Storror seem to be all in some stage of injury at the moment and even younger teams like Phat seem to be debilitated. You've got to have faith that your core audience will have the patience to be there after six months of rehab, because recovery breaks are just going to get longer and longer if you don't heal up.

With reference to injuries that result in bruising, prevent the bruising by applying immediate pressure! The bruising is because tiny blood vessels that will start leaking blood in the subcutaneous tissues. However, when applying immediate pressure you'll prevent bleeding in the tissues. It takes 3-5 minutes for the platelets to glue together to cover the leaks in these tiny blood vessels. So, always immediately provide pressure with your hand etc. People always watch for example, their ankle swell, instead of preventing the swelling by applying immediate pressure to prevent the blood from leaking into the tissues. Your recovery will be so much quicker.
