MacBook Pro 17 Late 2011 working slow, so lets speed it up and make it run like the new MacBooks This upgrade is great for non retina MacBooks from 2008-2012 #TechTreatment
This is the first time I switched from Windows to Mac and I find these videos fascinating. I bought my first Mac, it's an M1 Macbook Air and it's like iPhone, very swift and responsive!
I'm still using my Mid 2010 MacBook Pro 17" with Antiglare display... I've upgraded it with Samsung 860 Pro 1TB SSD and 8GB of RAM. It still works fine. The only thing I can't deal with is the heatsink. Tried to replace a thermal paste twice, but after couple of months it started overheating again. When I watch a video on RUclips, the CPU Temperature goes up to 103 degrees Celsius. GPU temperature is high too. It still works and soon will celebrate 10th anniversary :D
They are great machines but there time is coming. They are getting old and are showing it’s age. The gpus are known to run very hot, the best you can do is make sure you have adequate space around the vents to let air in and out
Just to add on as a 2010 MBP 17" user on El capitan. Everything is pretty much snappy from Lion to, Maverick, Yosemite and El Capitan. The noticeable lag starts to kick in from Sierra all the way to Catalina. All the best.
Thank you for the amazing video. Would you please advice me if this upgrade would work for my MacBook Pro 2009 - 17” ?? I will do this for the first time in my life. Also if I change the hard disk I’m going to be able to download the latest OS ? Thank you again
Can I use this product for MacBook Pro (17-inch, Mid 2009)? Because I have problem not only with the speed but with the battery too. It turn off itself often and is difficult to turn it on So Im not sure which one I need to replace
Hi, yes this is the same method for 2009 MacBook Pro 17. Give it a try and see if it improves. I also have a video on replacing the battery on a MacBook Pro 17 as well on my channel Thank you for liking and subscribing, I really appreciate it
Thanks for this man. I will be a MacBook Pro 17 owner(2009-2012) in the coming months but I do have two questions: Can the RAM be upgraded to at least 16gb ? and ..Can I BE ABLE TO SYNC my Galaxy Note 9,soon to be Galaxy Note 10 Plus, to sned/receive files, pics, etc?
You can hook up your old hard drive through usb (if you have a usb to sata converter offcourse), install the mac os x on the macbook, and than, you can choose to import data from a older mac volume after the install is completed
Need help, erased new drive (Samsung EVO 850 500G SSD), all good, restoring new drive as instructed, keep getting error halfway through the restore (about 30 minutes in), failed, osstatus error 5 input/out error, any suggestions?? Late 2011 model, running High Sierra OS
Tbh no. In a user perspective. All macbooks or macbookpro are soldered processor, and the GPU also soldered. The cost to upgrade versus the risk itself is not even worth to try. The only thing you can upgrade are the ram, ssd/hdd and extra hdd/ssd inside the dvd bay with caddy, and thats it.
I'm sure your graphics card has died by now. I had the top of the line 17 inch 2011 but I had to get rid of it even though it was working fine, since I didn't want to deal with the GPU, now I have 2 2009 macbook pro one early and the other is mid, I have them decked out, now my capacitor is failing on one of them and I need to replace both of them before I can use them fully.
I did the same months ago and + upgraded 2X 8GB now is not booting at all they say GPU FAILURE known issue and coding and stuff looks complicated to me at this point....
Kaya yes these 17 inch MacBooks suffered because of their gpus. They were powerful but cooling was an issue. At that point it’s better to just get a replacement MacBook
I had upgraded my old MacBook Pro 2011 17 inch with a 1tb samsung sdd and 16gb ram. It worked good for so many years until the gpu died :( I just got a mid-2009 MacBook Pro 17 inch and ordered a new ssd and 8gb ram (that’s the max on this model) and the parts should all be in on Friday :)
@@minecraftgamer214 what about RAM upgrade? Should it be the same with the original mhz? For example, 1067 mhz is the original one. So i should be looking for 1067 mhz too?
I own a macbook pro 17inch late 2011, and have 2133Mhz 16GB RAM in it, as well as RAID-0 with dual SSD samsung pro 850 256GB, so my read/write is 1Gb/s :D The only negative part is Im still on High Sierra which isn't supported anymore with updates.. Anyways, I have had windows and linux on it before, so ASA high sierra will be totaly outdated I will have win/linux on it :)
Guys, just search about dosdude1's catalina installer, it fully supports the intel hd graphics after you disable the amd gpu ( takes a few command lines, that gpu will fail eventually tho) in the 2011 mbp 17", it works flawlessly on mine, btw, if u miss the better gpu, I suggest to search an egpu
he has an anti glare display installed and those have aluminum bezels you can take off the displays and have a glossy one with black bezels I prefer to just have black bezels with a anti glare screen protector

I suggest you use mac’s fan control app to regulate the temperature
You can also make gates on the bottom metal shield at the area of the Fan, So the Airflow of the Mbp will be better.
@@multiomer1997 that’s a good idea
I had this done to my 17 in Mac book pro and it works thank you
Thanks for video. I backed up old machine with Time machine to an external drive. Then restored onto new drive.

How’s the graphics? Can you upgrade the resolution?
Just did this on my non-retina macbook pro 15 and OMG the speed difference :D

@@TechTreatmentChannel 15inch s better or 17inch
It depends on what year models you are looking at. If 2013 and up, then go with the 15inch

Can you replace the actual processor? Graphics? Anything besides the memory? On the 17 inch models
Hi Richard, yes and yes. Everything is changeable/upgrade able on these 17 inchs. Mind you, the graphics cards are expensive though

How do you like the matte screen on those versus the retina screens?
The matte is nice in sunlight but otherwise really wish the 17 had a retina
