  • I really need a better computer for CAD and video editing, and I'm a DIY type of person so I decided to give it a try, turns out that I'm not the most qualified person for the job but it ended up working out in the end anyways!

      Not exactly my first build, but last time I built a PC I was 10 and picking up parts off the curb on junk day and setting master and slave jumpers on HDD’s.
      So yes, my first build in the modern days

    Just wanna say be careful with those h100i v2 corsair cpu water coolers. Those pumps are known to quit functioning. I'd say within a years time. I've personally experienced this. Had mine for roughly 6 months when it suddenly stopped working. I noticed the LED's on the pump were all red when the pump died but that was really the only sign. Fortunately I noticed before anything bad occured.

    It’s awesome you got a graphics card for free especially with the price hikes today... that being said I would save up some money and wait till gpu prices drop and invest in a better graphics card the gtx 770 is fairly old and a gpu like a gtx 1070 or better would increase the performance a lot. Something to think about! Again no need to rush especially with gpu prices

    I'm pretty sure "Dual Channel" ram runs faster when it actually has "dual channels".... I just read that comment back to myself and it sounded really "dueshy" Im not trying to sound like an ass. I could be completely wrong. I always thought that when you have dual channel ram with two or more sticks, each channel is combined to equal the total rated speed. If you only have one stick in a dual channel system your systems ram theoretically running at half speed. If someone has more insight please respond as I would also like to know....

    Gear down for What?... Here I was hoping to see something like you designing, printing and testing some sort of planetary geared turbo type fan for a Mac.... I watched the clip expecting it, and guess what.... It never happened...
    Nice desktop though... Maybe one day I can get myself one too... At this moment, I am rather looking for ways to use filament more productively...

    I’m cringing, but welcome to a wonderful new world. Should have saved some money and got and just went with air cooling. Better performance until you get into custom loop. AIOs do make for a clean build though. Same with the NVMe. Clean look, but you would have been fine with a SATA ssd.

    • @GearDownForWhat
      @GearDownForWhat  6 лет назад

      My CPU hits 84C when I try to overclock, so I suppose that I need more cooling to deluding to do that

    • @christopherstromberg3070
      @christopherstromberg3070 6 лет назад

      Gear Down For What? If it’s 84C under load then your fine. It won’t start to thermal throttle until around 100C. If it’s 84C at idle then something else is wrong. Probably bad thermal conductivity. Maybe the AIO isn’t seated right. If that’s not the problem try adjusting the fan curves. Intels thermal compound under the lid is junk too. If you really want to get dirty look up deliding.

    Arctic silver is a thermal adhesive, meaning that it dies and sticks the part to the cooler.
    NEVER USE THERMAL ADHESIVE ON A LGA SOCKET, YOU WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO GET THE CPU OUT AGAIN.
    The thermal paste that is applied to the AIOs is pretty much top of the line stuff, but you can use IC DIOMOND if you really want best of the best ( thermal grizzly Kryonaut is a good option as well).
    You have a top of the line 8700K CPU, but paired it with a 3 generations old GTX 770 graphics card. Do yourself a favor and buy at least a 1060 (or 1070), otherwise your CPU is not gonna do much for you,especially for rendering 3D files or videos, GPU does most of the work in those cases.
    There were a lot of minor problems as well but these were your main "cringe points". Your system is not well balanced at all and you're losing a lot of performance by having an almost obsolete GPU. Also buy yourself a 1080P (or 1440P if you buy a 1070) monitor so at least you can use the horsepower of your PC. I bet the one you got for free is 720P.

    • @GearDownForWhat
      @GearDownForWhat  6 лет назад

      I think I should correct you on that, *Some* arctic silver is a adhesive, not all

    • @OM222O
      @OM222O 6 лет назад

      Yeah ... arctic silver 5 is a thermal paste. I still wouldn't recommend it though ...

    • @Cypherdude1
      @Cypherdude1 6 лет назад

      Arctic Silver 5, the one I bought long ago and still use, is *_not_* an adhesive. You're thinking of another product made by the Arctic company.

    Core i9 is newer and better than a i7 but it’s way more expensive....

    • @GearDownForWhat
      @GearDownForWhat  6 лет назад

      You are correct, i think clock speed the wasn’t quite as good either. I was really just looking at single core performance for cad

    • @FloppaEnjoyer8067
      @FloppaEnjoyer8067 6 лет назад

      that is an i7-8700k which is coffee lake which is newer than the i9s, however, the i9s are still better as they have more cores and a lower clock speed. If that is not an i7 8700k then it only has 4 cores which are adequate enough.

    500 watt psu >_>, come on man. not even enough to compute on stock speeds, plus your going to hook up other things..if you crash out of no where in the near future its the PSU not having enough juice.

    • @davidswe98
      @davidswe98 6 лет назад +2

      500 w is plenty for an i7 and a 770 should pull around 350w in total as long as he doesnt go sli there should be no problem

      What if I want to have 4 mechanical hard drives on board?

    • @NathanielHatley
      @NathanielHatley 6 лет назад

      Gear Down For What? I have a server in my basement with 12 mechanical hard drives running off a 600W power supply. You should be fine with a 500W supply with only four drives.
      Edit: that server originally used a 430W supply with no issues. I swapped it out with a 600W supply because I wanted the 430W for another build I was working on.

    Nice job though.

    • @OscRos03
      @OscRos03 6 лет назад

      Benjamin Ochs, Also 14 and I’ve built like 5 pcs. The trick it to not rush it. As long as you take it easy and double check everything you should be fine. Just look up some pc building guides and watch a few and you should be fine

    From the perspective of someone who (thinks they) knows a lot about computers this was super painful to watch, first top of the line mainstream consumer cpu for cad, second 1 16gb stick of ram ( 4 4gb sticks would be faster and cheaper) third ridiculously overkill motherboard fourth didnt even tell use the gpu 😭 fith triggered, Omg complete cringe, never NEVER take any stickers off computer parts it voids the warranty, aka noe that what $400 nvme drive is worthless to the manufacturer and they will not replace it if it's damaged or something happens

    • @johnwheels89
      @johnwheels89 6 лет назад

      Jacob Rosch he is in dual channel....not single ...also he shows you the GPU with the specs on it...the CPU is fine and doesn't hurt to go all out with the CPU since it is a little more future proof than the GPU...your comment was cringe as hell also
