My father-in-law was one of those rescued from the beach and he told me this was absolutely true.

This post is 3 years old....yet knowing what I know now, I am truly saddened😢. We should mention that perhaps God chose to work through all those soldiers, ordered to stay and fight till the last man standing, with no rescue. To fight till death or capture while dutifully slowing down the panzer advance through calaise to Dunkirk, allowing for as many to be rescued from the beaches as we're rescued. For those captured on 26th May 1939, who spent the rest of the war in prisoner of war camps. Stallag xxa, was just one of many. And for those who endured and perished in the camps and the long march from those camps to liberation after months of marching through snow with little food or clothing!! My grandfather made it home...and I've no doubt that he thanked God on many occasions....but God rarely works alone...he works through others....and we should all remember their sacrifices along with our reverence of God.
As a historian I've known the true story Dunkirk for 60 years and repeatedly told it (and many others) to my children. When the recent movie on Dunkirk came out I watched it with my grandchildren. Of course doubting that hollywood would get it right and they didn't. So I was able to tell the story of how, again, how Almighty God saved the "people of the Book". I consider the Battle of Britain and the Spanish Armada two more examples and there are many others. God has interposed Himself in His creation often, Many are in the Bible.
Yes,God does answer prayer,l have seen it time and time again,no mistake!
"For the eyes of the LORD are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their prayer, but the face of the LORD is against those who do evil." (1 Peter 3:12) We praise You, LORD of heaven and earth for you are good and holy!
Amazing story! God is always here to listen our prayers, to see our needs! We all need to join altogether for the current events in particular and worldwide.
United Kingdom go to Church …… Pray to the living and only true God…… Turn to JESUS. Give up your perversions and get down on your knees ……… before it’s too late. The wonderful missionaries from the UK brought the Word of God to India 🇮🇳 and we are so grateful to God for that.
Moses and the children of Israel were given miraculous deliverance across the Red Sea when fleeing the Egyptians in ancient times. The same Lord God answered the nations prayers led by King George the 6th in another miraculous delivery from an evil foe. Sadly this detail is largely ignored in present days accounts, and the miracle is told as an act of human endurance and innovation. Thank you Richard for giving a true account to the glory of God.

This is a perfect example of miracles of Biblical proportions still happening today. I site examples like these when people ask me why doesn't God perform miracles today as He did in the Bible.
The issue isnt that God isnt performing miracles its that people are intentionally leaving God out of the story. Thank you for telling the WHOLE story.

They left behind Scottish troops who were captured by the Germans and kept in camps. He forgot to mention that bit. There is no British nation.

Thank you for sharing this miraculous story of God's mercy. I remember hearing this story more than once at my school in Ireland in the 1980s. A catholic priest told us the story and also other miraculous stories from the first and second world wars.
As much as i have studied the 2nd world war, i never knew about the sea being like glass and the rest being in a storm! Wow!
I am not surprised, God tye Father will answer a single question, imagine what would happen if our nations bowed before Him again!

What happens when a desperate nation prays??? At Dunkirk we genuinely feared the worst, and yet it seems that God honoured the prayers that king George VI called for and intervened miraculously. The whole nation should pray again, it’s about time you remembered your faith and the one who saves.
Beautifully described; silently narrating the follow on that when we don’t pray in huge numbers for our nation & our world - evil flourishes - as we tragically see each day on the news.

What happend that day just proves God exists in my opinion, and people just forget what happend. I mean think, They had a national day of prayer then during the evacuation the weather was so bad the luftwaffe couldn't cross, and the water was famous for being you know, bad. It was so calm that they could get the navy along with tiny private boats. That's what you call a miracle, it wasn't just luck.
My grandfather was at Dunkirk.

Wow, I didn't know about this. How amazing is our God He is our only hope and I believe that all humans deep down know He hs real, but sadly many won't admit this. In desperate times like this, so many turn to God, just as many did in the recent Covid outbreak. Prayer works. Our God works in mysterious ways. I will use this wonderful video in my after school Christian and history club that I run in the school that I work.

After the miracle of Dunkirk Churchill described the subsequent Battle of Britain as a Battle for "the future of Christian civilisation."
My mum bought me the book of the World at War TV series. A secular book, it refers to the miracle of Dunkirk. Not the only act of God on this nations behalf in WW2. How quickly we forget.

Rees Howells and his Bible school also stood in prayer for this period of time, covering Britain, and standing up to Hitler’s efforts. Many stories of miraculous timing and strange turnarounds. God loves this Christian country Please call for a day of prayer now that we will be protected again but then we are no longer a Christian country .The wind changed during the armada and the Spanish ships moved or were destroyed I have read books on the miracles during the war . If we pray for guidance God will work a miracle 🙏✝️
Surely the Holy Spirit is and has been very active with signs through culture and art from Britain. We even saw that quite clearly at the Concert for the Coronation, an event specifically and closely connected with the invoking of the Spirit...
Even today the people of Dunkirk must praise god not only them but all of us

To further the truth of this miracle, the event to rescue the soldiers was called Operation Dynamo.
There is a word in the bible to describe GOD's power, the Greek word dunamis from which we get our word dynamite. Part of its definition is the power to achieve by applying the LORD's inherent abilities. It's "the LORD's" power because this is one of the gifts from the Holy Spirit which was one of the results of Jesus' death burial and resurrection. It's as though GOD put HIS name on it.

French and British deaths at Dunkirk could have exceeded 18,000. With 2,000 civilians dying.

It was dated June 6th 1940.

At 9/11 there was an even bigger evacuation. Of course, people did ... But with no inspiration from the Holy Spirit they would not have done so. Some people (like me) see some of His work, many do not, sadly...
